@melomane57 NO, il mezzo è Gloria Scalchi!
This quartet really won me over. Nucci has become legendary, and I love the way Alvarez approaches this also! Too many other tenors set the amplitude at forte and simply stampede through the delicate phrases. Not Alarez. He carresses each phrase and doesn't try to scream over top of everyone else. His high register seems secure and musical. Bravo!
If you listen carefully to Pavarotti's early recordings you could find the same easyness and soothness trend in his voice as Marcelo has now, of course with some reservations. Maybe its just a matter of time (little time I hope) before Macerlo becomes the next Great Tenor. Nonetheless there are quite a few new Great Tenors around the corner that are beginning to be noticed. Which means, there is not going to be a void in Opera only because the Great Pavarotti is gone. Thank God.
Faenol 2000 is better, all around. What a difference Denice Graves makes in a role that she would never sing in the opera. Alvarez is essentially the same as here...perfect.
Goodness, I didn't even know that Nucci was still alive, but he sounds just as good as when Sutherland was still performing. And while I agree that Marcelo Alvarez isn't quite Pavarotti, I'm beginning to think that he's the next best thing.
Marcelo Alvarez est le Duc de sa génération ...aigus faciles , timbre délicieux, demi-teintes ; son entourage est également à la hauteur (Nucci, Devia)
Suggest listening to Beniamino Gigli, Dino Borgioli, sopranos Galli Curci, Lily Pons and other singers from the Golden Age. No wobbles or throaty singers
Alvarez, te como la cara...

è la prima volta che sento fare dei colori in questo quartetto da un tenore (di solito è micidiale per tutti) bravo Alvarez!

In my opinion the performance from Faenol Festival 2000 is much more better.

Marcelo Alvarez is the easiest tenor to listen to on earth. He's not as good as Pavarotti, but his voice is so easy on the ear.
