  • I can't smile thinking about what the modern world today missed when she passed away. I wish I could have been alive when she was, but I have been fortunate enough to have parents who have taught me of her legacy. I wonder if the music industry would have stayed as it was back in the day if she had lived and continued to make music today...

If only I had the chance to see Karen alive but once in my life, but so tragically, she escaped this world before I was born...

    R.I.P.

  • I love when this song randomly comes on my ipod...it happened this morning on my way to school and I was feeling particularly shitty. Oddly enough, this song always creeps up on me whenever I am feeling really sad or angry and it's just like a cup of instant happiness, no matter what. That is the power of the Carpenters, Karen's beautiful voice in particular. I can't imagine that anyone can listen to this song without smiling at least a little bit.

  • i like barry manilow's version better, but i like karen's vocals better.

  • I think that Karen Carpenter is excellent poster girl for why singers/celebrities and athletes shouldn't be put up on a pedestal. We are all human and all have problems. So if you think your problems would be solved with money and fame, just think of this lovely woman and try to enjoy your life as best you can, because even the most famous have very human problems.

  • Manilow y Karen le dieron su toque a esta hermosa canción

It is just me or the carpenters always turned the covers of the songs they performed into something wonderful?

  • It brings me some special feeling when i listen to these old melodies...st good but sad with wishes n' flashbacks of memories

  • this really makes me wonder how does it feel to have been born , when this kind of songs came out...

  • @lezahennab

Happy to have lived though the 70's. But heartbroken when Karen died.

    She was to young,

  • @DonnaUtubefan I was born in the 1990 but the 70's music is where it's at. Great music from several genres. My favorite was Marvin Gaye.

  • @DonnaUtubefan you mean too?

  • for the 5 who did not like this song you have no souls, you might as well be zombies

  • @wxonwxoff God forbid people should like or dislike something !! What makes you so fucking special you can dictate what kind of person someone must be because they disliked a song.

Guess I'm a zombie because much as I love Karens voice I find this song insipid but not as vapid as you

  • @Robi6942 , I didnt know zombies can write. Dont cry yourself to sleep now baby

  • @wxonwxoff not only can we write - we can discern good from great, we can also realise that not absolutely everything a person we like or admire does is**PERFECT**

    Goodnight

  • Sensational.. IF only she was here Now, still singing beautiful melodies. R.I.P. Another Legend gone, yet never forgotten.

  • Wish that she didn't get sick.

The bad seems to always happen to the best.

She thought that she was fat.

I can't belive that she thought that.

Starving your self sux ass when you don't need to.

Who ever started making her think that she is fat needs shot.

We lost such a great person and such a great voice

  • Is that Alpert on the trumpet intro?

  • My favorite :)

  • ahh!I really love the song!!!

I'm sure!Karen, together with the famous artists are singing in Heaven.

    ahh!

    I love yah Karen!!!

    :(

  • I lost my wife of 35 years Sandra 8 months ago and this above all songs says so much .....thanks for everything you died to young just like Karen

  • I thought Barry Manilow version song is good to listen

  • this song bring tears to my eyes...

    i miss her so much...:(

  • Richard Carpenter was a genius in his orchestration and arrangements. He and Karen's voices blended that created that beautifully unique sound that millions the world over still love.

  • Thank for the memories, born 1971, can remember my family all togheter by listening this song ! life not the same, since internet, family a tearing apart !

  • Karen Carpenter looks better without the bangs.

  • I love putting on the Carpenters. Especially this song. It puts my baby sister to sleep. (:

  • I'm a teenager and yet, lovin' these songs

  • I love you Karen!Sunday afternoons i will always spend with you.RIP.

  • esta cancion la escuche en otro grupo pero con la voz de karen no tiene comparacion es hermoza ahh karen la voz mas dulce y tierna de todos los tiempos

  • This song is one of the songs that I love so much. This beacause I grew up in North Norway amiring the Carpenters. The songs on the album "A kind of hush" have made me think about how sad I became when I first heard that Karen was among the Angels in Heaven. This was some years after her death. I couldn`t believe it. RIP Karen.

  • best version ever. Karen's the best.

  • I love this song

  • great song. makes me feel like..home. with 15 years i'm just to young..where's all this music today ?

  • I'm sixteen and the Carpenters are my favourite music artists. Mainly 40's to 80's is what I like to listen too. You just can't beat the older music. This song is definitely one of my favourites that they've sang.

They'll never find a duo like them again. When I first heard them...well, they snuck into my heart and made themselves at home. RIP Karen.

  • @Cheriediamant yeah i'm 16 too and i think the oldies still the best

  • I feeling so lonely

  • Those two still married hommie G

  • I have no such bright memories concerning "The Carpenters" and my youth..I'm born #75, so 'Im a bit late for this, but I like them very much ( and I miss being a child again besides that great music )

  • mint mint mint

  • my mother used to play this lp all the time when i was young, from when i was 3 years old or something, en everytime i hear this music, it makes me feel like how things were back then, just a magic feeling, en such a great voice, just ...

  • i agree but wasnt' it manilow? i recall the song but i remember a man's voice.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!

Karen is nº 6. She deserves Nº 1!!!

  • omg. i love carpenters.

  • Great Song !!!!!!!!

  • I can honestly say not recalling ever hearing this before, but I love it.

thank you for posting it!! Really helped my day.

  • i've always loved this song as performed by the Carpenters (as performed by barry as well), but their version has such a sweet, mellow, melancholy sound to it. Melancholy seems an especially appropriate way in which to sing this song when you think about the title. Just love it; just love karen and richard; always have, always will.

  • Amo a voz dela...

Fiquei em choque quando soube de sua morte...

  • i love it..

  • i just came back from camp and heard this song during campfire and i love the song

  • sounds like a christmas song..♥ it

  • these days its sad to like kind of music but i think its so nice to listen to and this kind of music always makes me feel so happy with my life! THANKS FOR VID!

  • +5 !!!

  • I'd used to sleep beside my dad when i was small and dad would just start singing songs from carpenter.

later on he says when he was small, he had to slep in a shed and now far away would be a pup or soe sort and carpenter music woud be paye and dad was listen to it until he fell asleep

  • its funny, but hearing HER sing it..its clearly a carpenter style song.. Barry was the writer anyway right? But the song is clearly a carpenter feel. Im just finding it.. WHAT HARMONY!!!! WOOOoo

  • Honestly, I like music now but it has nothing on music back in the day.. Even old school rap is better then rap now.. Like the beats now are nice but the lyrics are kinda dumb.. But oldies like this make me wish I was born earlier instead of in 1989...

  • @stalin890 i born in 81 and i wish to born earlier, I think that is normal in people when you can appreciate how simple and beautiful was life , years ago. Maybe my son wanted to be born in 81, you never know

  • @stalin890 born in the same year too. don't worry, we still have youtube. :D

  • @stalin890 I was born in 1996. :'(

  • @stalin890 I was 16 when the Carpenter's came on the scene. That means a 20 year old with his girlfriend went to a Carpenter's concert and fell in love to the Carpenter's music. It meant summer days driving with their music being on the radio. I was born at just the right time!

  • @stalin890 Same year I was born. I feel the same way about music and tv shows, but I loved being a 90's kid. 90's kid and I love Karen Carpenter!! :)

  • @stalin890 you are right, and I enjoy because I was born in 1950. My best wishes from Montevide, URUGUAY, South América

  • Thanks for uploading such a great video!

  • I miss her music very much. My mom would play her music in the 70's and I remember rocking back and forth in my crib.

  • that is a really sweet memory :)

  • "Can't Smile Without You" was the first single to be released from Manilow's album Even Now in 1978.

Carpenters' album "A Kind Of Hush" (1976)

  • il migliore e barry manilow

  • It's good to hear some nice innocent music. Everything these days is so vulgar. We'll probably never hear another voice as beautiful as Karen's.

  • ....there is another vesion of this on the flip side of the 'Calling Occupants' single. it's worth checking out.

  • With the flutes? And that "Aaaaah-aaaaah" in the begining?
