Willie Nelson wrote Family Bible and sold it to Paul Buskirk and in turn Claude Gray performed it - having become #1 - Willie Nelson knew then he could write #1 songs. Willie sold away his rights to this song for $50 but he wrote it and sold the rights to it.
Willie Nelson was the one who done wrote the song Family Bible in the 1950s. By then he'd written a whole bunch o' songs already. Breeland, Buskirk 'n' Gray may have put their names on it at a later point in time, but let there be absolutely NO DOUBT! WILLIE NELSON wrote Family Bible along with many others o' the greatest songs ever written!
Well, now I'm confused. I found the same credit you write about but I learned this song a long time before 1988. The reference I found said Willie sold a song called "Family Bible" for $50 in the late 50's; the song was a hit for Claude Gray in 1960. I've been singing the song at least since then.
Great job, Jerry. I'm aware that Willie wrote the song in your video and sold it to Claude Gray for $50, but do you know if Willie ever performed it and if there's a video somewhere online of it? I searched here on youtube with no luck. Please rate on the video on my page: first few sec. is me and another guy having a guitar battle (I'm on left with the Washburn) and then we all just make some music, no particular song. Happy pickin'!
Looks like you are right. It's been recorded by almost every older country star on the planet but Willie was the one who wrote it while being raised by his grandparents in Abbott, Texas. I'll update the title. Thanks.. and Thanks for listening..

This song is a favourite of mine. You did a nice job with it.
My understanding is it was written by Walter Breeland, Paul Buskirk and Claude Gray (1988 I believe). Willie did record it.

That was very nice, Jerry. I rather think Uncle Jim would be quite pleased.
