Thanks to for posting a wonderful glimpse of the time we ( in television ) grew up up with. June Salter Met her many years ago in at 12th Night in the 80's saw her in the a great play at Her Majesty' s theatre in brisbane in the 70's. Was enchanted in her, and her performance in those plays. I was privileged so see such a wonderful lady.

Thanks heaps for posting. I loved TRY but think I may have missed this last episode as I had a commitment that night I couldn't break. Loved the theme and loved the show. Have met Joanne Stanley who recently played Stevie Nicks in a FM tribute show. And that's Ray McGregor (RIP) doing the voiceover on the end. I have a copy of his 4BK broadcast the night John Lennon died.
You've been missed for so many years Jon.Thank you for the pleasure you gave. So sad for what could have been but you left your mark anyway. May you rest in peace.
I was having a CT scan this morning and for some reason I started thinking of TRY. Although it was too adult for me back then I remember my mother watching it and me enjoying the appearances of John, Jan and Benita from Play School. Thanks for the memories.
oh and to the person enquiring bout nick hedstrom(peter beckett)of the restless years nick gave up acting to become a social worker working with underpriveliged kids and was last known to be working in the parramatta area of sydney also george negus is doing a story on john blake known as sonny during his time on try this mon nite on10.6.30pm i worked with john on acp a great guy and such a tragedy i would like to know whatever bcame of suzanne stuart(sr gibbs) on the young dr's not seen in yrs
we need a digital channel to show these old aussie soaps imagine sitting through no96 although only the colour eps remain as the b&w eps have been destroyed the restless years the young doctors prisoner starting out and possesion r on my wishlist loving the sons and daughters rpts on 7two and a country practice could have another run i worked on s&d and acp they just dont make soaps like that anymore come back REG GRUNDY he new what the viewers wanted
the episode was the very last restless years this was broadcast in tasmania on a sat night strangely enough it was 3hrs long and when originally aired in sydney the final week coincided with sons and daughter 1st week on air in 82 so we had peter phelps as kevin and kim lewis as julie on try and as john and jill on s and d's have made enquiries bout a rpt screening but ten no longer hold the rights wintv now owns most of the old aussie soaps including the young doctors and sullivans
The Dutch version of this show is called "Goede Tijden, Slechte TIjden". They used these storylines from octobre 1990 (the start, season 1) to february 1993 (half season 3), since then we are writing our own script. It still is airing nowdays and Europe's oldest soap opera to date. There is only one character being played from the very start; Laura Selmhorst.
The German version is called "Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten" Both the German and Dutch version mean "Good Times, Bad Times"
TRY was a great, intense, dramatic soap that went straight for drama and tragedy with no fear and no pretense. There was comedy, but you knew that was only there so that when the tragedy later occured it would seem even more tragic. Great cliffhangers: especially when Miss McKenzie was buried in an old crate and left to die. Rita Merrick was a fantastic villain. Would love to see a best of on DVD.
Thanks for this blast from the past. Loved this show. Also - saw my old school where the school scenes were filmed - North Ryde High. I remember "wagging" lessons to watch them filming.
I remember this last episode! I was about 11 or 12 and felt sad that it wasnt going to be on anymore! There was a lot of talent on this show and went to great acting careers Tom Burlinson etc! Would anyone out there know what ever happened to the guy who played Peter Becket? Its a pity the quality was so bad! Then again maybe thats what Australian colour TV used to look like back in the early 80s!
WOW...what a blast..what a trip...i was about 9 at the peak of this show and loved it so much, ive always remembered the theme song!!!...and then it just dissappeared. Ive tried to find out about the show over the years but im amazed how hard it is to get either information, or copies of the show. Thanx so much to the person who posted this, even though its poor quality, it was enough to bring back childhood feelings...i too would be in heaven if this ever came out on dvd!!!!
There is a Dutch revision, and it's up since 1990, it's pretty good, it's called "Goede tijden, slechte tijden" which means "Good times, bad times". And there is also a German version.. which is up since 1992. I like the Dutch one better. =)
My all time favorite aussie soap by a long way. I would seriously be in heaven if even the debut episode were released on DVD let alone the whole series!
OMG, I cant believe I just watched Restless years. I remember I was about 11 or 12 when I use to watch it and absolutely loved it. Why hasnt anyone released it on DVD?? Thank u so much for a trip down memory lane!!!
The Restless Years was such a bad show but I remember my grandparents loved it - they never missed an episode. I always just used to think it odd that The Restless Years cast was half made up of Play School presenters!
it's funny because the storylines from this series is buyed by an dutch producer who made it the first dutch soap serie with it, and it became a great succes, and it's still on tv, from 1990!

Shame about Sonny Blake (you can see him at 2:50) ... Zoe Bertram was a spunk too. I've seen her on tv recently in an ad. Great show!

Taped off TVQ-0 Brisbane I suppose, judging by the PRG and end voiceover?

Poor Jon Blake. Such a brilliant actor and so handsome. Cut down just as his stellar career was about to take off. Tragic shame.
