  • Wonderful!

Thank you for posting these films.

Funny watching that gate bounce so much.

  • Brings back great memories!

I was 7-8 years old and standing on the platform of the Raleigh NC railroad station. I remember being so excited when that big shiny train came rolling in, its bell clanging amidst all other other associated sounds.

And I actually got to get on that long passenger train and ride it all the way down to Florida to see my grandma!

I'll never forget the unique metallic smell when I stood in the vestibules between cars, or the porters in their crisp white coats.

  • YOU HAVE MORE?, I WOULD LIKE TO PROFESSIONALY TRANSFER ALL YOUR TRAIN FILMS FOR YOU, FREE IF I CAN USE THE RESULTING TRANSFERS.

RON @ MAIN LINE MOTION PICTURES

  • The E-8 shown at the beginning of this video, 2923, was subsequently renumbered to 6900 and was preserved. It still runs at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina.

  • Also I noticed a glimpse of the Railman riding the "hand driven" rail car in your video.... I recall seeing one of those out on the Rimini tressel about half way and wondering what he would do if a train came. 5 stars on the videos my friend, you have allowed many of us a look back into a window of good and simple times.

  • Has anyone seen other videos of trains crossing Lake Marion on the Rimini Tressel. For ones unfamiliar....there is nearly a mile of wooden tressel beyond the steel tressel in your video. I've met trains there in the dark before....while making the run from Packs to the river to duck hunt. That's a very erie site.

  • Wow! That takes me back..... thank you so much for posting this. I saw these in NC also but was too young to have a camera.

  • Wow, I didn't know Gervais Street used to have a railroad crossing.

  • Great Video! This really hits home with me. I'm from Rimini SC and the weekly excitement was to wait for the train between Rimini and Pinewood, then race it through Pinewood in Mama's 62 Pontiac. Great Memories...Thanks

  • 5 stars and a favorite here as well!

  • Ha ha, at 1:17, watch the guy on the bicycle almost get his head taken off by the gate arm, the maintainer sure didn't do a good job of counterweighting or adjusting the buffer, yikes! ...great old video, 5 stars and a favorite from me!

  • All the remaining old Southern Railway passenger and freight equipment shown in the film has to be rounded up and restored if needed to recreate these scenes in High-Definition video.

  • really awsome wow

  • Man did I enjoy that one!

  • I see we have somethin in common, we both like trains and have the same name!!!!!!!!!

  • Que perfeição!!! FLAVOR of DIXELAND!!!

  • Nice video, Thanks for posting it.

  • SWEET !!!

  • I like how the bicyclists head almost gets taken off at the 1:18 mark, when the gate falls! (And it sure falls way to fast!)

  • This brings back a lot of memories. I remember seeing the Augusta Special go by my aunt & uncle's house back when this train ran. The ACL train is on the bridge where Rep. Jim Clyburn wants to build an automobile bridge connecting Lone Star to Rimini. Some citizens call this The Bridge to Nowhere.

  • I've always wondered what possesed people to film/video/photograph trains or anything for that matter. Maybe not possesed but I go with my dad on train chases every so often because he's a big railfan but while he photographs trains, I videotape them. I guess it's a good thing because it lead me to my major of Film and Video in college. When I look back at stuff like this I always wonder what made them pull the camera out. Usually it's because it's new and they want to film/video something.

  • Great video. I'm a big railfan but especially like the yellow and green Suburban Transit bus crossing the tracks there on Gervias St. especially because my father drove for Suburban Transit.

  • Why cant everything be as simple now as is it was then.........

    Great Vid!

  • Please contact me, hoboron 866-826-4809

  • I love this video, esp. the brief shot of the Lincoln Viaduct about halfway through. If you have anymore old railroad stuff, please share!

  • and thanks for the comments :)

For now my only other similar train video is: "Train Spotter's Journal 1966 (USA)".

I do have other 8 mm and super 8 mm train films (in various condition), just not sure how long it might take to get any of it ready for uploading.

  • This is truly fantastic. I guess everything that's 'everyday' eventually gets lost in the past. Well done for putting in on.

  • Wow, this is really cool. I was trying to figure out if this was Columbia and I didn't recognize anything until I saw the Mills in the distance halfway through.
