  • I love this shit, never gets old. I have finally shed my infantile breakdown fixation and have gravitated towards the old school death. I hope to form an oldschool styled death metal band someday.

  • and to think they had beef with the norwegian black metal scene.. both are great genres =(

  • Listen I love Black Metal more than all the extreme genres but Norwegian Black Metal is garbage. I don't even like Death Mwetal that mch but i still say Swedish Death kicks the shit out of Norwegian Black Metal.

  • Swedish Death Metal

Perhaps the coolest three words in existence... Too intense for me, for too long, but i gotta admit, there's some pretty cool riffs... But then, I'm no connoisseur of the genre. The phrase just makes me smile. I freaking love it.

  • Wow... :02 Twisted Sister w/ no make up...lol...

  • hahahh when i moved into the house im in now theres a small guest building out back and i went out there to start cleaning it up and as i was leaving theres a Carnage sticker above the door. i just left it there peacefully :]

  • Hail from Bulgaria...i wish i saw born in Sweden <_<

  • the best skool of death metal

  • i love how these bands actually have their own logos. most "death metal" bands these days just type their logos in a cool font. no creativity at all.

  • what band is playing the song the

guitar solo at 1:31 sound magnificent

  • Wow, so many death metal bands. Sweden defintely had their fine bunch of muscians. Love the song by the way \m/ !!

  • Crypt of Kerberos IS fucking BACK! :,D

  • Morbid was Black metal band :)

  • @bockigoth not that it really matters but morbid was death metal. they were pretty thrashy too

  • @CadaverAzteka Aint Brutality american...?

This is a vid about swedish DM. Brutality still kick ass tho.

  • Wow I guess Sweden has some real fucking traditions in DM. Hail from Bulgaria!

  • Thanks for adding the inside picture with the early CEMETARY logo, they still rule.

  • What about Morbid? (Dead from Mayhem was the vocalist)

  • Very nice compilation. It would have been convenient if you could add a list of all the bands in the video description.

  • holy shit I bow to your music collection man!

  • Death metal from swedish pwns!

  • GENERAL SURGERY??????

THEY' WERE ONE (and still are) OF THE BEST DEATH-GRIND-GORE METAL BAND FROM THE 90s

  • OLD SCHOOL Swedish Death Metal.

  • Great! you forgot Cemetary and Eternal Oath:')

Good to see Decollation in there

  • it doesnt seem like theres much too this litte too simple for me

  • Look at 0:28, cemetry is there...

  • 0:28, look through the whole video before you comment.

  • Good stuff man.

old school death metal is always and always has been the best

  • Great job but i think Diabolical should to be in this vid also

  • I didn't even knew few of them

  • great work, still i think that Repugnant could have been in there

  • PAN-THY-MONIUM &OBSCURE were amongst my faves back then. Anyway, most of the SUNLIGHT STUDIO related band were too similar to each other for me.

  • Crypt of Kerberos are fucking good

  • anyone now where i can get free downloads of these bands?

    plz let me know

  • Well in my opinion... Death is an great band, and people say they created death metal, but todays death metal is making me bored... too much unnenessesary deep growls.

If someone is going to sing something...he may sing for people to hear what he means... and if noone understands him, it's useless.

Dont sing/growl if no one understands what ur growling about.

  • Nirvana 2002, dumbfuck.

Look them up they sound a tad bit different than Nirvana..

  • If you don't know Nirvana 2002, how did you know the rest?

  • Does anyone have any suggestions for Swedish dm cds I should buy? I have grave unleashed dismember edge of sanity entombed hypocrisy already.and I'm getting carnage. I think that's all I have from the bands he named. Any suggestions for someone who's only been listening to Swedish for like 6 months? Thanks

  • Check out Excretion - Voice of Harmony (1995) - it's more like something between old school and melodic goethenburg style, but still very cool album imho.

  • Search on Wiki for Swedish Death metal, All the bands new and old that people know off are there.

  • Try Eucharist's " A velvet creation ", Unanimated ( both albums ) and above all Evocation's " Tales from the tomb " and The nocturnal silence by Necrophobic

  • old skool swedish death metal is the BEST

  • I've checked out a lot of death metal but really don't like most bands... I only like this song, bolt thrower ( a little), Atheist, some weird band called "A Band Of Orcs" I came across, and that's pretty much it. I didn't like Death at all or Cannibal Corpse or any other Death metal really (almost), but based on the bands I did like, does anyone have a death band to recommend?

  • Well, if you didn't like DEATH...then you might as well give up trying to find Death Metal that you like.

  • @skullvomit666 Dude its a tribute to swedish death metal not american and last time 'I checked Death is flordinian

  • @pestilenes

Yes...I know, I was responding to someone else's comment.

  • @skullvomit666 I have to disagree, though I do enjoy a lot of death metal bands. DEATH is not one of them.

  • @skullvomit666 how do you get DEATH from Old School Swedish Death Metal? death is AMERICAN tech/death/thrash metal, certainly not swedish death metal.

  • @skullvomit666 STFU Stop making Death seem like the greatest death metal band on earth. Why is it that every Death Metal sound FAR WAY different from Death? Death don't don't even sound like Death Metal they sound Thrash really.

  • @666deathghost

....You Can't say/state that the father of death metal was not playing death metal.....

You should get haunted for saying that....

  • @Cadaveric666 Death sounds like fucking Thrash bro.

  • @666deathghost You obviously dont know what you are talking about. Scream bloody gore, leprosy, spiritual healing and human are the definition of what death metal sounds like. Death, atheist, old cynic, pestilence, obituary, gorguts, deicide etc is Death metal. Its not an opinion its a fact. If anything you should probably take history lessons before you open your mouth.

  • @aurasmash So your saying Kreator's Pleasure to kill and Mordid Saints' Spectrum of Death is Death Metal? Dude none of those bands sounds anything like Death, you should probably get your ears chech cause many people consider this thrash.

  • @666deathghost Have i ever mentioned Kreator or Mordid Saints? Its pretty obvious you havent heard anything with death except for maybe a song or two. And regardless what you may think or even me Chuck Schuldiner of death created death metal. Its the sound he invented that is the blueprint for what death metal sounds like. The bands name is Death and when people were talking about the bands sound they used the term "Death metal". Hence the expression. Its all in the history books.

  • @aurasmash Fuck a history book, The name don't mean shit. There's a punk band that came before them by the name Death but do that describe the genre? No!!! Reason I brought those bands up is because those albums "Sprectrum of Death" and 'Pleasure To Kill" is because those albums are too comparable to "Scream Bloody Gore" Death metal is a seperate genre its not suppose to sound too much like thrash.

  • @666deathghost Scream bloody gore has a completely diffferent sound from pleasure to kill or spectrum of death. Again this is more about your big blown up ego than anything else. Death is the definiton of death metal. Íts like saying that water isnt wet. Death metal is very very close to speed and thrash metal. How old are you? I grew up with listening to old school death bands. Every genre has different subgenres. Brutal death metal, gothenburg death metal, technical death metal, progressive

  • @aurasmash I bet big money that u haven't listen to either album PTK or SOD Death is te Definition of Deathrash ok

  • @aurasmash I'm inclined to agree with 666deathghost, Death was never an absolute definition of death metal, bands like Morbid Angel, Obituary, Autopsy have always been more pure death metal, while Death sometimes was ever less death metal than many bands like Slayer on Hell Awaits. Some fine vocal work is to be heard on Scream Bloody Gore, but the structures are largely similar to a mix between Bonded By Blood and Reign in Blood, both the minimalistic grace of Exodus, and the insanity of Slayer.

  • @Tweenythepriest Scream bloody gore, leprosy, spiritual healing, human are all perfect examples of what old school death metal sounds like. The same with autopsy, early entombed, atheist, early cannibal corpse, cynic, deicide, obituary. Do all these bands sound the same? No not at all but still they are music from the same genre. I dont care if you like to label atheist as progressive death or entombed "death n roll" etc. Its still old school death metal.

  • @aurasmash Autopsy always had a more pure death metal approach, no speed/thrash to be found there. And bands like Deeds of Flesh are also pure death metal of the old school. It's a form of composing, not an aesthetic choice.

  • @Tweenythepriest Are you trying to say that hell awaits (the album) is closer to death metal than for example scream bloody gore or leprosy? In that case i salute you for making the dumbest comment of the year. But im sure i just didnt get what you were trying to say. For me and obviously for the people who wrote the pages of music history death metal in its purest form is very very close to both speed and thrash metal. What came after death is just a natural evolution of a genre.

  • morbid angel is always a must

  • Man...I was hoping there would be a few on there that I hadn't heard of before, but I knew every single one. It kinda makes me sad, like there's none left from that time period to discover.

  • ha ha, I counted no less than 6 people I know in this vid.

  • Dismember, Entombed, Crematory (old), Vomitory, Grave and Unleashed are the most famous and fantastic metal bands from Swedish here in my country, Chile. Although, edge of sanity and centinex are great as well!long live to the swedish metal bands!

    cheers

  • Alexander Skarsgard listens to Swedish Death Metal : )

I love him even more now!

  • the double bass sounds likes someones beating it

  • Sweden and Finland always has good bands death

  • sick shit dude \m/

  • Swedish metal is best FOREVER \m/

  • You forgot Treblinka!

  • yeah i forgot many bands: sarcasm, abnormity, masticate, obnoxious, adversary, morgue, votary, eructation, sacretomia, procreation, necrophobic, funeral feast, moondark, harassed, excretion, mastication.....

  • @deathrash666

Grave,Dismember,Carnage,God Macabre are the first bands I want to go to Sweden...really..I mean a self path country pioneering their own death metal among their counter parts..Truly I ask myself If I can make something of my own as how these Gods Paved the way?

  • @deathrash666 I know its a largely bold question but yeah I do wonder dude just saying

  • @deathrash666

    :O TIAMAT!!!!

    Great Video BTW

  • @DonkeyMonkey83 dude... we have very similar names...

  • Great! Checking out the few bands I am not fammilar with!

  • yeah its pretty much pre-in flames

  • WTF is this HELL

  • HAIL SWEDISH DEATH METAL. Anything i can say...

  • lol kinda

  • Uncanny and Entombed are my favourite.

  • hypocrit...

  • A lot of bands.. wow!

  • wow theres a lot of bands I havn't heard of on here, nice vid dude

  • damm i need this song on my ipod

  • do u hate your ipod like that? LOL

  • I don´t know if this is old school..but..Dissection?

  • Dissection is black metal

  • Hum, not exactly. Black death... But like Marduk they was a part of the swedish death metal scene, because in this time, there was no difference between black and death metal.

  • gotta love that sound it's just fucking beautiful

  • WERE IS IT?MORGOTH

  • Morgoth is a German band mate..

  • God Macabre!

  • Oh my god! That song was beast on so many levals!!! Does that band have any more videos?

  • That Grotesque pic must be the best of all time or something.

  • One of the best promo shots for me are the Grotesque's classic Graveyard shot, Entombed's promo shot under that huge cross in a snow blizzard ( truely epic ) and CoK's promoshot in front of that big runestone.

One of the best band shots in existence . . .

  • haha thats fuckin insain

  • sweden fucking rocks! \m/

  • what is the name of this song?

    btw good work.

  • I love Morbid...

  • Really good stuff. Much!!! better than crap being released nowadays. Hail METAL. Hail BEER!

  • badass list of bands i like that kind of death metal it's way heavier than our american death metal.

  • Yeah that's right bro, but you guys have for example Autopsy, Repulsion, Death...Those are really good bands! However a prefer this!

  • Comment removed

  • those bands aren't from Sweden...he's just making a movie of Swedish dm bands

  • eh? are you stupid or something?

  • dont forget morbid angel

    fuckin classic

  • morbid angel are from USA... but they are fuckin classic aswell:P

  • Oh my god

    SWEDISH FUCKING DEATH METAL!

  • Morbid angel is an american band....

  • No shit, Sherlock...

  • Eternal Darkness

  • Yeah man a almost agree with you (Tombking2), I'm not much into those gutteral vocals. I think they're pretty silly, however the music is really crushing!

Those vocals are more of american death metal vocals i agree, those doesn't make sweden unique as the more agressiv and tormented vocals that matti uses.

  • Old school is the best, simple as that!

  • argh, i watch a video about old school swedish death metal and the comments are about slayer and metallica???

    Carbonized!!!

  • there's no denying Slayer has gone in a different direction from there early stuff, but I wouldn't say they have gone as far as Metallica. Metallica used to be something, but than the Black Album came out and we realized they weren't much w/out Burton.

  • Wow, I was like "what the hell, no Merciless?" and then boom. There it was.

    Hurr hurr.

  • oh well sweden does produce good death metal bands :D thought there are some other good like..Bolt thrower wich is from britain and CC from usa CC = Cannibal Corpse =)

  • Hypocrisy dates back to 1991 with their demo Rest in Pain

Edge of Sanity's Euthanasia demo was released in 1989

    I'd say they qualify

  • Wow...clearly you know shit about Edge of sanity and Hypocrisy's beginnings.

  • maybe maybe hypocrisis' penetralia and obsculum obscenum are ok, beacuse tagtren had freshly arrived from dark funeral. then with abducted they became pretty boring. okm their first works can be considered old school, but they aren't fundamental. entombed and dismember are much more important and nowadays suck less

  • Tatgtren was never in Dark Funeral, the vocalist on the first two albums was.

Ill give you that Hypocrisy has gone way down hill since the first two albums, but Entombed has fallen farther. Their first two albums are absolutely brilliant, but they havent done anything worthwhile since.

Edge of Sanity was OSDM at the beginning, but their late works were very different, although absolutely classic in their own right.

  • Early Edge of sanity and Hypocrisy were, like it or not, definitely old school death metal.

  • I must say there are really good band who are not swedish but they do a really good metal!!

  • it seems like the best melodic death metal bands are always Swedish. why is that?

  • No, ALL best bands are swedish ;)

  • not nessesairily. Slayer are one of the best and they're American.

  • Well there are some exceptions of course. But I personally am far away from worshipping Slayer

  • well, same here. Slayer have pretty much gone the same direction as Metallica as far as being true to their original sound and fans goes. I'm personally far away from worshipping anything.

  • FUCKING KILLER

  • who here is swedish? i am.

  • I am of Swedish heritage but not from sweden.

  • I am

  • can you messege me telling me who sings this song and what it is called please

  • Band: Crypt Of
