@mikemike20202020 The bark was already dead and traps water underneath itself. This leads to decay of the underlying wood and the ultimate collapse of the tree. Doing this work preserves the integrity of the trunk indefinitely. What other action would you suggest?
Graham, any chance we could see some more "basic material" this coming spring? I feel like most of the folks watching your videos are in over their heads with the material you get your hands on! Thanks and cheers, mate.
There are many beautiful bonsai video series, though not very many as beautiful as the Graham Potter series. Furthermore, it's a pleasure to watch an English-speaking video by someone who actually does speak English. I think this series is only one I've seen, as a matter of fact.
Wow... I had no idea you could transform it into something so stunning!
Very skilled, wouldn't mind being your apprentice lol.
One question though... Why did you only scrap off and treat one part of the bark along the trunk? You mentioned that only the dead bark has been removed (6:50), but why isn't it white on other parts?
@MrSpiky47 Well, as you stated yourself, he said that he removed only the dead bark. The wood beneath dead bark is also dead and it is darker than the live wood. The white wood, therefore, is not dead although "deadwood" can be treated with a sulfur soltuon which will turn it too white ... but that's another story.
Sorry to critisize your work but what is the obsession with Deadwood? The trunk was nice before with lovely bark and now it looks AWFUL!
