  • Looks like you could serve scolding hot tea,it appears so smooth.

  • damn she's towing a RIG !!! power in that thing must be immense and in that weather too :)

  • those firers are decklights

  • the three white lights in the mast means i am towing

the three red-white-red is unable to manoeuvre

the three red-red-red lights means danger, i am in the wrong lane or not able to do anything .

  • Ive only been on a passenger ship on the mediterranean while I was a child. Several times in different weather. But I still remember this sound of ship engines and the smell of rusty metal and salt in the air. I never forgot that.

  • Even if the storm was not that bad, as some complain, the three red lights on the ship indicate that it is unable to maneuver, and the fires on deck probably indicate why.

  • @Scott2point0 Three red masthead lights indicate that she is constrained by draught, while the condition of restricted in her ability to manoeuvre is shown by three masthead lights: upper and lower being red and the middle one is white.

    Source: COLREGS Rule 27 (b).

  • @Scott2point0 There are no fires on deck. Those are floodlights..........

  • @Scott2point0

The ship is showing the RAM signal (Red over White over Red), which means "Restricted Ability to Manoeuvre".

This is because they are towing. You can see this from the three Mashead Navigation Lights. (Lenght of the tow is more than 200m.)

The floodlights on deck have a yellow light because they have High Pressure Sodium lamps.

  • @Scott2point0 Fires on deck??? lol that's funny.

  • @Scott2point0 fail

  • Good Vid!

  • She is made spacial for this kind of weather! BUT the Xbow Consept is no pretty to see at, and of ferries and gastankers wil get this in future.. i wil be very sad.. :(

  • very peacefull, thks for sharing

  • is it handling anchors? three red lights->unable to manoeuvre

  • Cool Video.

I think its funny so many people are looking for a whale... It's a BOAT people. It's name is the "Orca". It has the new "X-bow" made by Ulstein Group.

  • I don't see a Helo pad, on that version of Olstein X-bow... What, no one was crazy enough to land on that ship, HaHa,,,, Its a funk design, but damn effective, I like that thinking out-of-the-box design (or in this case thinking out-of-the-tube design).. Who runs these ships, the one's with the Big "B" on it, is that British Petroleum, or someone else. ????

  • @texaca Bourbon, a Norwegian shipping company

  • oh btw....i was wondering where this was filmed ,and if it was possibly video taken in drake passage, or off of southern africa....the two deadliest places on earth for a boat to be.....drake passage scares the fuck out of me(off the southern tip of south america, and antarctica, check it out)

  • that is force nine or ten at least, darn that must have the guys chewing bullets, those waves were monster level.....but i will say that is impressive the way that ship was designed ....i wonder if Noahs ark had a similar design,i'd say it would take a storm of historically biblical proportions to threaten her

  • that ugly hull design is actually working flawlessly!. must be more relaxing for the crew to work in those conditions than on a boat with regular hull design

  • Looked a little rough but no biggie. I'd be in the galley making pizza. Never had to anchor down a pizza pan with welding rods! And maybe make a fresh bread with some stanky cheese and some fresh tomatoes with fresh crushed garlic topped with parm cheese too. And a meatloaf with home made gravy and biscuits. Weather sucks...Let's eat! Smashed taters too with plenty of butter and sour cream!

  • That looks like a pretty well-built ship. Wait- is it supposed to be on fire?

  • in poor visibility like this ocean doesn't look so intimidating it doesn't seem so vast, but in clear weather it doesn't even matter if the sea is calm you really feel all alone

  • I forgot about this ship... and its hull. maybe someone read the wrong side o fthe design?

  • awesome!!! the ocean is very cool. You guys brave. Respect

  • Will the Orca attack the SS Great White?

    What will become of Gilligan?

    Inquiring minds are fixated.

  • We were performing a GPS Carrier Phase survey on the Cohasset and Panuke platforms, the first platforms in Canadian Waters. No other rigs or platforms were in Canadian waters at that time. Hibernia came next in 1997. Check this through the Canada Lands Survey Registrar, Plans on file show the platforms were surveyed through the time of the storm. We were on the Vessel the Triumph Sea owned by Secunda and were called away from the platforms to a Mayday by the Eshin (sp) Maru.

  • That is not the perfect storm. At least not the one that occured in Late October, 1991. Sorry, I was in the storm and don't recal that rig out there. The only Platforms out there were the Cohassett and Panuke. The first Platforms in Canadian waters.

  • @BrianWPyke where were you at the storm, in a rig?

  • Good kite flying weather

  • lmfoa what a homo as looking ship

  • Maybe it looks a bit ugly, but this shipdesign is very efficient.

Its a new shipdesign, developed in Norway.

Normal ship noses "cutting" waves. This design lead the wave around the nose which reduce the bouncing of the ship and it saves a lot of fuel.

I think in some years it become maybe a standard.

  • bounce around on a normal ahts OR ride high and dry on a x-bow?

    no brainer....

    nice ship 2,

  • notice in the title there are 2 'the's...

    Anyways,

    Good enough video..

    But kinda time wasting...

    Nice xD

  • outside norway?

  • Até que o mar não estava tão bravo.

  • Comment removed

  • partyloon, I would take ugly and stable over sleek and sunk any day.

  • ugly ship

  • eats the waves effortless

  • They did the homework on that design looks like it rides out the weather real nice.

  • Made at Ulstein verft right?

  • @backhand630:

    1. Learn how to write.

    2. It's not my boat.

    3. You are lame...

  • @Sooksawaspakdee961 I cant begin to tell you how long I laughed at that comment :) ...........and I'm still laughing!!

  • @backhand630 Boat is Called orca u dumbass READ FCKING COMMENTS! :S

  • that hull beats a conventional hull by a mile.

  • I believe this boat is used for towing streamers used for seismic surveys. A number of seismic acquisition companies use very similar boats to this.

  • nope, its an AHTS, nothing to do with seismic survey.

  • Why dont you say anchor handling tug supply in case all the old pirates on you tube dont know what you are talking about

  • dint see an orca

  • The name of the boat is Orca

  • this boat is has the name---"bourbon orca",its and x-bow boat,,,,,its made in ulsteinvik in norway;).........i was part off the sandblasting and painting crew, when it was built;)

  • r u sure thats an orca

  • amazing footage

  • the name of the boat is orca, i think its a norwegian boat :)

  • burbon orca is the x-bow boat

  • Im confused

  • where is the orca ?

  • I think it is the name of the boat

  • x bow is the future :) ; thanks Ulstein

  • thanks for the environment and for the sailors

  • that was awsome

  • Man, you don't know how much good sleep you get in seas like that. It's like a biological lullaby.

  • I don't get what the "technology" is? Seemed to pitch pretty deep in a so-so storm. why no bow flare? clearly would help as things get worse.

  • The whole concept is making a far more comfortable vessel by eliminating the bow flare which create slamming in heavy seas with unpredictable movement in the ship and noise as a result. The lack of bow flare also means that the ship can maintain a very high "safe speed" with much less risk for structural damage.

  • Bow flare simply provides more buoyancy as a ship is pushed down into the water, fighting the increasing force of downward pressure by displacing more water. I don't know what you mean by saying this causes damage. The Orca plunges almost to the deck (a very high deck) at slow speeds in a medium storm. The bow is out of the water at one pt. Seems it has high buoyancy until a large wave hits, then it is overcome because of a lack of geometry high up (bow flare). Let me know what you think.

  • Yes. That's how a traditional hull works. This one, however, uses the buoyancy in a different way so that the ship can maintain greater speeds in greater waves. A conventional bow can take structural damage if you try to run it through waves with high speed. The X-bow dips a little bit more, but moves much more smoothly through the waves, so that it's much more comfortable to be onboard. Have a look at the "Orca passing Skandi Caledonia" In related videos! That shows how well the ship performs.

  • hi nice vid!

i'll stick to the 722 hull shape, but maybe x bow is the future.

lol. poor wx for a rig move!

  • good god, that is freaky...i admire anyone who has to deal with this stuff

  • dont change the bow the x bow is slower and all shiping crews want to do is get there faster

  • l sincerely like this design, Ulstein is a winner.

Where can I get a 2.nd Engineer job on a ship of the X-bow design?

  • X-Bow is the future !!!!!!.

    yesssss.

    im loving it

  • Am I the only person who just loves the X-Bow design?.

    X-Bow is the future!!.

  • looks impressive!

    thats a fuckugly ship though

  • thats only force 9-10 max on beufort scale, this tug desigden to withstand much greater waves, I`ve been in perfect storm force 12+, wind speed up to 55 m/s 18m waves, that was horrible

  • Thats crazy dude, the ocean's a scary place. Takes some real guts for the guys that work out there. Nothings on earth's more humbling than the ocean.

  • We need guts just as mutch as the boys too do this :)

  • volcanoes are more humbling. don't think so? drop your x-bow rubber duckie in one and see how it fares!

  • @jp4505 I've never been on the open ocean and I don't really want to. Especially after seeing some of the videos tonight. I miss Saskatchewan sometimes!

  • @jp4505 thanks bro.. Believe it or not tho,..for some, it's just a rush. Those 'open back decks', there's NOTHING funner than a 15 to 20 ft wave crashing over the back of it, while we're all standing on the back deck, waiting for deliveries to and from the oil platform to be dropped or lifted,.. Cuz the walls,(bullwarks) are only 3ft high, and have open drain holes all along the bottom of them, so the water can escape,..so meantime, a 15ft wall of water picks you up and carries u across deck

  • @jp4505 it's like getting tossed thru the water, and swimming across ur cuz for all intents and purposes, U R in '15 ft deep water' swimming across ur own back deck.. It's a rush.. The ONLY thing I didnt like, is when we had Tow cables on the oil rig, it takes 3 boats usually, two in the front, on port and Starboard sides,..and when towing, a center boat,..but when positioning the rig on location, 2 in front, and one on the stern, for counter pull.. DO that in a tropical storm.. THAT's scary

  • @jp4505 volcanoes are. tornadoes are. grizzly bears are......

  • captured the shear majesty of it....sweet vid

  • This bow design will be also very good in ice conditions. No big splash when steaming in open water, less icing effect!

  • this is effective, see how that dosent take direct hits from bigvawes,it like cuts trough the waves, without getting huge bowsplashes, veri nice

  • where's willy?

  • whats supposed to be? a tug boat?

  • Its a anchor boat.. It Moves the oil rig anchors :).

  • Beautiful video. Would love to out there!

  • I didn't see any Orca (as in whales) in this video clip.

  • Orca is not just the whale.Orca is called this specific type of sheep.

  • how many km/h knot is?

  • one knot is 1.852 Km/h

  • wow be amzing to see that :D

  • i didnt see it :\

  • It's the large green boat in the middle of the screen. Large B on the front? Lights on it?

  • @bcbywale heres me looking for the orca

  • what orca?

  • I saw Orca in Sortland, if my memory serves me correctly.

Calm winds and following seas to all...

  • thats some design of a ship, doesnt even have to punch through the waves, just glides along, wondr how fast she is?

  • trial speed = 17.1 knots. designed not for speed but for best manoeuvrability

  • That type of bow is called the "X-Bow" and is a patented design that is supposed to reduce fuel consumption and provide better motion responses in seaways. The M/V ORCA is riding pretty well in what appears to be rough seas...

  • i didnt se a whale in that video at all

  • its the boat

  • great footage!

  • is the rig on tow>

  • Awesome hull design

  • see, that kind of storm on a ship is pretty calming. any other and forget it.

  • Norwegian boat construction is the best and safest ;) i think...lol

  • its not too bad at all

  • I LOVE the shape of this boat :)

But i thought Orca is shorter :)

    Nice video.

  • B for boat :]

  • No... B for Bourbon :)

  • Nice footage! Outstanding weather! (I am serious!)

  • I want to work on a ship like that for a year or two!!!

THAT's AWSOME!!! Check out the Smit-Lloyd vids if ya like this stuff.

  • thats looks fun.....

  • what kind of boat is that what a weird bow!!

  • ocean tug, used to anchor oil platforms

  • I SAW A JELLYFISH WOOOOOOOOOO!

  • I didn't Where!?!!!!

  • nice boat lol.

  • Ej he våre inne i dinne båten. Broren min he våreme å bygge den.

  • Bourbon

  • :O oh damn lol i was hoping for a big wave like in the perfect storm ROFL

  • Ah, the North Sea.. kinda miss it...

  • oh the orca is the ship

    because i was like

    i dont see a whale

  • Sorry for laughing at this but what you say here is way funny cuz I was looking for one myself, I'm like where is it

  • ditto.

  • Yep, I thought the same thing. I was inches from my screen scanning the water for their dark dorsal fins. I'm glade I read these comments before hand or other wise I would have been like dude theres not orcas!

  • haha lol

  • Red skys at night salers delight, red skys in morning salors take warning.

  • the huge ass ship

  • wheres the orca?

  • Ugly vessels...

  • Is that what a salvage tug looks like before they trim the foreskin? lol. Well hopefully it performs better than it looks.

  • donde esta la orca?

  • esta en el oceano.

  • pues yo no la veo @_@ o me estas chamaqueando

  • Nice video of a very interesting ship!

    Btw:

What's the name of this song? Anyone know?

  • HAHA DEN BÅTEN GIKK FINT P VATNE JA

  • LOL aha båten må vare orca jaja

  • i dont get it

  • den båten går fint i sjøen! :P

  • Where's the orca?

  • It's the boat. It's called "Bourbon Orca".

  • Bra film. Venta egentlig på en spekkhogger da :P "Orca" liksom ;)

  • cool

  • Very good video

  • Meget bra !! Ser ut som Orca koser seg i orkanen.
