  • While I love to see the old war birds fly, this aeroplane is unique, being the only one left in the world. I would think twice about taking it for a spin.

  • I bet those didnt fly much when its cold, you would run out of ground crew to crank it.

  • Good Ole hand cranked inertia starter's.

  • was it a race plane?

  • @MrElSatan: The Boeing P-26 was a front-line U.S. Army Air Corps fighter (pursuit)plane from 1933 until about 1938. China also used 11 of them against the Japanese in a futile effort. The Philippine Army also used a few of the obsolete aircraft against the Japanese and actually shot down one of their aircraft in 1941.

The colorful paint scheme on the Planes of Fame P-26 Peashooter is that of an early unit based at March Air Force Base (then March Field), California.

  • would have been neat to see the video from the other side, watching the guy crank would have been cool too.

This is the first clip I saw of inertia starter in action. Sounds really wonderful! I wish the Zero at POF had an inertia starter.
