Ford is raising the bar by bringing back the mighty boss 302. Buick is known to be a middle aged appealing car company and they are trying to work there way to younger buyers. They have taken a big step forward by bringing back the turbo regal. To really compete with ford, thumb up this comment and copy and paste it to other Grand National videos if you think Buick (GM) should bring back the all reigning GN!
The mustang was supercharged, the grand national turbocharged, it was a close race, but with a turbocharger you get free horsepower with less work from the engine. GN! FTW!
Children.. children, as a mechanic i can relay that for a "short time" they will run well.... but blow up they do reguardless of how much money you put into that GN, better off with a proper mild V8 built for NO2.
i was lucky enough to be a passenger in a brand new 87 gn, i was 19 yrs old back then, and let me tell you,... what a ride!! to bad the interior still looks like an old ladies car..im just saying,..dont get me wrong im still jealous as hell!!
@cookie14883 the GN isnt stock bud. I know a guy with one, Stock, those cars run somewhere around 13. My friend has about doubled his HP and we think the car will run 11s now. Were finding out next friday.
@Blewbyyouracing I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE GN HAS THE BEST V6 EVER. ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE THINGS "AGAINST IT" LIKE UNBALANCED 90 DEGREE BANK ANGLE, THE 2 VALVE HEADS AND OF COARSE THE PUSHRODS.
THEY ARE MONSTERS WITH ONE HAND TIED BEHIND THERE BACK!!!
Just about any 87 Turbo Regal with a GOOD driver will run high 13 second to very low 14 second ET's bone stock. Been there, done that. My old 87 Turbo T ran high 12's with just a chip, K&N filter, dump pipe, upgraded pump and 20lbs boost. About $400 bucks in parts. My current 87 GN runs 11.30's with 100k miles and TE-62 turbo, bigger injectors, TH 3" down pipe, upgraded fuel pump and front mount. I drive it to the track, bolt on slicks and at the end of the day drive it home.
Yeah and the Buick is a true 5 seater. My 87 Limited is loaded up 3750 lb car and runs low 11s in full street trim. A bone stock 87 gt is about .3 to .4 tenths slower car. No 87 mustang (and i have owned quite a few) could ever run the 1320 like my pops bone stock 87 gn which cut high 13.90s at 96mph! And remember the regal weighs more, was a true 5 seat passenger car and not a 2 seater lightweight! Get you facts straight before you post!
@interceptor9090 yeah a mustang didnt stand a chance when it came to the gn's but a mustang does fit 5 people and iv done it meany of times, iv ran my bone stock stang down the track a hand full of times and my best was a 15.1 @ 95mph, they're to light in the ass end and dont hook worth a damn, which makes it a wicked ass burnout machine haha
@keeksta1 whateve stock block 91 with automatic click click 14.4 all ay long , swaped to a stick for more fun, boosted and on the meth stock block, lets say its a nice ride
@grouchysmad they're both badass rides from the 80's and if i had the money and chance to buy a gn, i would do it without even thinking about it because a gn has a shit load of potential just like the fox body
you are poorly misinformed.. yea the v8 barely won, but the turbo on the v6 makes the displacement and power greater than that of the mustany dad has had both cars, 87 gt ad an 87 regal t type.. mustang was always a little faster, but that regal moves
Actually the Mustang was a twin turbo...

@JohnnieTheBull Was the GN a single turbo?

My 2 favorite cars from the 80s, the turbo buicks and the Mustang 5.0 coupes... Side by side. I would have paid to see them race in person.
