A decent and honest man who taught me a great deal. Humble yet courageous , Mr. Zinn never tires of shining light into the darker coners of history. The posting of this video is appreciated.
Howard Zinn is great, and so was this lecture. However...at the end, his analogy is flawed, I am sad to say. Yes, the ANC used passive resistance and other tactics first. In the end they used violence though. I'm not saying it was right or wrong to do that, and under the circumstances it made sense. That is the point though. When innocent people were killed in passive resistance, the ANC used violence. Of course there were atrocities on both sides then. What happens when they will just kill you?
OMG This man is LYING to you. Yes colonies WERE pushing British sympathizers out, But then King George sent troops to subdue the colonies. They fired the first shots killing 18 men. THAT started the war. We had to fight or die.
this is amazing!!! i'm from israel... i try to educate myself on american politics whenever possible... and i have never found a lecture so awe inspiring about american history, class struggle and ahisma. i urge all of you who found this video inspiring to read and view videos of Yeshayahu Leibowitz, a religious jew who spoke against the israeli occupation. if possible (i havn't found a translated vid but.. search for it), see his debate with Israel Eldad.

A great example of how age doesn't necessarily bring wisdom. And what an inept speaker - the least he could have done was spend a few hours in preparation beforehand.
I wish he would clarify that Korean war part, the North did not invade the South anymore than the South invaded the North. Both sides mutually started the war, and it was a war of a tiny minority of south koreans and the Americans against the large majority of the korean population, south and north.
One of the best explications of the Korean War that I've come across can be found in William Blum's 'Killing Hope' (Common Courage Press 2004). Blum details who invaded whom and the evidence behind his statements.

I've gone through the same transitions in thinking on the subject.

Good educational speech. We need to also factor in the Mexican role in American history and the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Senile, impetuous, self centered, naive, ignorant old coot. And a lousy public speaker to boot. Perfect example of "Progressives" and their ilk.

Great. I didn't know someone else already posted the speech. How was it you were able to post the whole video in one part?

Also, the English saw Americans as essentially British citizens--it doesnt make much sense to kill your own.
