Having resently been falsly arrested and accusued of making bomb threats,I too had no faith in the judicial system, until in the end,as with The Guilford Four, and and the Mcguire seven,I too was exonerated. They never did find the one who did it.
I have to admit, when I saw this movie, my blood was boiling, I was so enraged.
But as Conlon stated in an interview, there is no cause to hate all of the British- as it was a British lawyer who ultimately proved his innocence. And it was the UK legal system that set him free (although, admittedly, the cops were never punished ). So, I decided not to give into my earlier impulses of firebombing the local British consulate....LOL
The Guildford Four and Maguire Seven were not charged with treason which was punishable by death despite being convicted of being IRA terrorists. They were instead given prison sentences. They were used by the police to quiet down the public's outrage over the police's inability to catch IRA terrorists who were responsible for the bombing of civilian areas in England and Northern Ireland.
I've written a song dedicated to Daniel Day-Lewis. You can find it on my channel or search "song for daniel day lewis" and find my name Jules Mann. If you're free please check it out and leave a comment.
As for High Security Terrorist Prisoners, they were reguarly moved between prisons, and there were some 16 high security dispersal prisons in England & Wales at the time, with further high security prisons in Scotland and NI.
The chances of Conlon and his father even being in the same prison were remote, never mind the same prison wing.
you are mistaken. first, about some of the facts. i have just read gerry colon´s book about his imprisonment, and he was in fact several times in the same prison as his father (if not, as you correctly say, in the same cell). but the thing is, the movie doesn´t claim to be a documentary. you have to give room for creative licence. it may not be gerry conlon´s life told here, but it is his (and the other´s) story.
The best part of the speech is when the DA says and I quote " Her aunt Annie Mac Guire, the experienced bombmaker, who wore rubber gloves when handling explosives in the kitchen of her home" He sounds very convincing and this is possible through the art of rhetoric. On the other hand it´s a shame that the British Legal System made up all this and convicted innocent people.
This is one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. For those who think we should sacrifice defendants' rights in our pursuit of terrorists, I ask you to please watch this film.
The English People had found the real bombers, but they didn't set Gerry Conlon and the others free, because it would "be a scandal". That's really ridiculous..
Fucking English bastards.
Me, I am half Irish, half German. So I know about the situation in northern Ireland, and I can under stand the irish people. They are the good ones, not the bad.
This has happened in every country in the world including Ireland. They were released and financially comphensated. Unlike all the irish men and women and teens tried in IRA kangaroo courts and murdered and their bodies never found. Google 'Jean McConville'.
oh please, youre embarrassing yourself. isnt that why you removed 2 of your comments? i have the best of both worlds. irish and american. go fuck yourself you english supporting prick.
I don't know how true it is but when I was in dublin this taxi chick told me that irish women like indian boys because the brits had it in for them too
@burzum1204 Thats fucking insulting to an entire continent. The paddys havent had the easiest time but to compare it to what the blacks suffered and still suffer just makes you look a cunt mate.
The British have been diminishing the Irish for 800 years, less than 300 years ago the population of Ireland was 14 million, today its 7 million. nearly two million Irish people died during the famine. Over five million had to abandon their Country. And while all this happened the British who were the richest nation in the world at that point did nothing. Thousands of irish men lost their lives during the Easter rising as they fought for their freedom.
In the North of Ireland thousands of people died during the troubles. And it wasn't until the nineteen seventies that Irish catholic men in the North were given equal working rights as protestants. And it wasn't until the nineteen seventies that irish Catholics had the right to have an Irish passport. I could also talk about the Norman invasion of Ireland to add to what my Country has gone through. Black people have been through alot, just as the Irish have.
The suffering of blacks has simply been alot more publisized than the suffering of the Irish. And of course the blacks have been through more in terms of scale because there is a considerably higher amount of blacks than Irish. But in my opinion the Irish have suffered more or less just as bad as blacks.
This has happened in every country in the world including Ireland. They were released and financially comphensated. Unlike all the irish men and women and teens tried in IRA kangaroo courts and murdered and their bodies never found. Google 'Jean McConville'.
u shud wotch the films Wind That Shakes The Barley and Angelas Ashes, ones bout the irish war of independance nd the others bout the famine nd depression of ireland after the independance etc, both reali gd id recommend dem :D
@DJFRITH Angela's ashes is based on the memoirs of Franks McCourt, who was born in 1930. The last famine in Ireland was between 1845 and 1852. So Angela's Ashes has nothing to do with the famine.
im half irish nd half english nd it dosent go down to well wid my cousins m8s, but im onli 3 generations english before dat im german, so german-irish so fuck the english!, but i get the gentlemanly manners from english dad :D
i love the part where he just creates complete lies about gerrys aunt in particular. as if the family had a flippin clue about "nitro-glycerine". and the "wearing rubber gloves". haha. brilliant film though altogether. outstanding. thank god the situation has changed, but it is still highly important we remember miscarriages of justice and the many dead, so we can learn from past mistakes! ALL OF US!
Just like everything else in the captilist system, it's just been outsourced. Maybe we don't imprison our own people falsely as much, but look at Guantanamo Bay! Six years without charge, some of them. Watch The Road to Guantanamo, you'll see

I am not mistaken in the least, the films inaccuracies are well documented.
The truth being the McGuire family actually attacked the film for it's total inaccuracy.
There is Hollywood licence and then there
is outright inaccuracy and even lies and this falls in to the latter.

The film was nonsense from start to finish.
There was no tramp, no park bench, no engraved name abd bo speech in the Court of Appeal
The Chief Police Officer was ficticious, the
McGuires and Guildford 4 had seperate trials and were never at each others trials.
Conlon and his father were never even in the same prison never mind the same cell.
The are endless other blatant inaccuricies, and the McGuire family themselves have attacked the films accuracy themselves.

The English are incredible cowards. Just because the release of Gerry Conlon and the others would have been a scandal, let them rot in jail.
Fucking English Bastards.
Me, I am half irish, half german. So I can understand because of the stories of my father, how it all was back then.

your arguments needs proofs. How many exactly, who, when, how, why did ppl in guantanamo get imprisoned without trials?
"but I'm sure when they are found guilty, then your country will just execute them."
who are you exactly talking about?
and what do you mean by the word "sure"? Is this opinion coming from statstics? or from your preferred delusions?
Then for the last you say you're not anti-US, after all the non-sense arguments, which proved nothing but your personal humiliation.
