Personnally i would liked to seen a seattle band called The Head and The Heart which released their debut self titled this year which I listened to countless amounts of time.
El Camino is really good, but, is not good enogh as it is Brothers. Well, maybe was impossible to make, for the second time, such kind of wonderfull album.
Well, my number ONE, is definitely, definitely, I say is DEFINITELY: Helplesness Blues. That record is a master work, is a classic album. I just don´t get it, how could Foo Fighters album be better, but, love to them. Fleet Foxes is maybe the last great, really great band. The albums of Fleet Foxes are like those classic works from The Beatles, to the Beach Boys and Crosby, Stills, Nash and specially Neil Young. The are just the best school in this music, the finest rock ever.
Hi, I´m from Colombia (South America), the country, not Columbia, the State. Congratulations for your posts, i really like them. But, don´t you think that records like The Whole Love by Wilco, and specially the marvelous last My Morning Jacket album, Circuit, should deserve some recognition? Well, with all respect, I just don´t understand why american audience prefer a band like Foo Fighters over some great bandas like My Morning Jacket and Wilco. But is just an opinion. Rock on!
Others: TH1RT3EN, The King Of Limbs, The Hunter (Mastodon), D.R.U.G.S., David Comes To Life, El Camino, Evanescence, Hope (The Blackout), Reckless & Relentless (Asking Alexandria), Set The World On Fire (BVB) and In Waves (Trivium)
@FrequentFly3r Actually, listened to AA a bit better, and they are actually not that good...they suck a bit...but BVB is great in my opinion. They might dress very weird, but they DO have talent. But Mastodon is better than both :)
@RandyGold999 They (BVB) are technically skilled, yes... But their music is just so clichéd and unoriginal in almost every aspect. The lyrics are cheesy and it (to me) feels so uninspired and emotionless, making it very boring.
However, there are good things to be said about them aswell, but in my opinion, the bad REALLY outweighs the good.
Everything else that you listed is great, though :)
@FrequentFly3r And this top has been changed, in my opinion the best album of 2011 is "A Dramatic Turn If Events" by Dream Theater, then comes "Wasting Light", and then "Unto The Locust"...
I agree with foo fighters. You guys should definitely check out the band Kyng. They released an album in September it was fucking great. Don't really care that it didn't make the list. But its really fucking good.
The Black Keys, Radiohead and Fleet Foxes all deserve to be up there but I really don't agree with Wasting Light at number one. I think a lot of albums this year topped it particularly stuff like the Hunter, Unto the Locust and Simple Math by Manchester Orchestra. It's still a great album with tons of anthems on it, and it'd still make my top 10. Just I don't think it was the best album of the year.
ya know i was watching this at number 2 i was like if he does not put ff on 1 he should be slapt then i was like omfg he did not put ff on number one omfg omfg omfg omfg my mind is losing it then BOOM Foo Fighters on number 1 :D and rightfully so the album is so good
@toolbass24 Coldplay was more mainstream this year, heck they even had Rihanna on their album, I think most people consider it pop(ish). Grouplove anyone?

Sami, I'm surprised to see that the Arctic Monkeys are not on either of these lists. Personally, "Suck It and See" is my favourite album of theirs, care to comment?
too sammi so i haven't really listen to Radiohead so i decided to get one random album and the king of limbs and i like both but the random album i got was ok computer and i got to say i like that album a lil more but king of limbs is awesome too.
@Chisholm342 no i don't! metallica is an awesome band! i love all their 80's albums and death magnetics but lulu just sucks huge cocks! it's just not a good album: no james whos is singing, kinda lame riffs, solos are kinda missing and lou reeds voice neither sounds good nor fits into any of the song. But most of all the texts are dumb as fuck! there was no ability to put less content into a song!
You had a great top five man, but the Foo Fighters record ain't as good as PJ Harvey's new album. Oh and by the way the glaring omission of the century: WILCO'S THE WHOLE LOVE. ARGUABLY THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR AND OF THEIR CAREER!. C'mon man... and you picked the Foo Fighters?
Very much agreed with Foo Fighters-Wasting Light as number one, they made an amazing album and were the best freaking band my family has ever seen LIVE yet.
@themaninthemirror131 Good lord, ok again, I don't hate albums that aren't rock, dipshit, but I don't put make a top 5 rock list and put a bunch of folky acoustic shit on it. Just as I wouldn't make a top 5 hip-hop album list and put Slayer or Hank Williams on it
Well, Mastodon and Foo Fighters made really great albums this year, and even though Skinny Pupppy might not be considered "rock", they also made a fantastic album as well in October
well of course we agreed on black keys and foo fighters because if they weren't number 1 and number 2 then our lists would be TOTALLY WRONG! um, i mean they wouldn't be as good. but other than those albums the other albums on these lists were great too (especially megadeth and chili peppers)
How could you disagree with the Fooies as number one! Absolutely perfect, they truly deserve it--they started us off strong and never left our hearts :)

@RockItOutBlog, Sami X-Mas is almost here and I'm getting as much CDs as I can, so Im getting Helplessness Blues from Fleet Foxes, and probably the Head and the Heart, and maybe a PFloyd album, do you have any suggestions (btw: I personally like your music choices: folk rock, indie rock.. I feel like this is a bromance, uh oh..)
heeeeey! "Not so great albums released by not so great bands"? Alright lulu sucks, but....that's not Metallica's fault!
Metallica = legends of metal.
They have already proven they can do better, proof? I will simply say "beyond magnetic - EP" check it out ladies and gentlemen, THAT is what metallica is all about.
I'm surprised that Foster The People's album Torchis isnt on here i mean a lot of people only listen to pumped up kicks but listen to the whole album and you will see that they have a bunch of other really good songs
@RockItOutBlog, Check out James Durbin . His album is my number one album of the year . His album is called "Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster" it's great !
Everything he said about the Foo Fighters was true: it mad me sad, made me laugh, and after I saw them live once, it made me want to see them again and agian. Good #1 choice.
Red Hot Chili Peppers wasn't on your list?!... I think that is also an album that once you have seen the band play it live makes you hear different things in the songs. I saw them in Manchester last month, so epic. I highly recommend you attend one of their gigs when they tour the US :)
I'm not here to see who got the top rock albums- because, to be honest, my musical tastes are a bit more in I guess what could be called the "experimental" stuff. But thanks Sami for being entertaining for 2011! Enjoy seeing your commentary every time, even if I usually don't care much for the music.
Hi guys and Hi RIO! very good choice, but I m from Italy, and I suggest u at least to listen some songs from the best rock album 2011, by my side of course: the album is "WOW" released by "Verdena" , an Italian alternative rock band in activity since 1998. hope you like and agree with my choice :) greetings from Rome!
I don't understand all the praise for Wasting Light. It's yet another average Foos record...not bad, not amazing either. I agree with the choice of Bon Iver though.
I personally think that the RiOB tends to trend towards the lighter sorta indie-rock, Pitchforky (sorry!) kinda music. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not really my speed.
So on that note I do sorta disagree with the list, mostly because I don't find Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, or Bon Iver all that interesting, and I'm With You I thought was only average though admittedly it's growing on me. Nice to see Th1rt3en represented though, so I'm not super miffed about the whole deal.

The best album in my opinion and in agreement to my music taste was "Reckless & Relentless" by Asking Alexandria :D

heeeeey! "Not so great albums released by not so great bands"? Alright lulu sucks, but....that's not Metallica's fault!
Metallica = legends of metal.
They have already proven they can do better, proof? I will simply say "beyond magnetic - EP" check it out ladies and gentlemen, THAT is what metallica is all about.
Thank you.

I'm surprised that Foster The People's album Torchis isnt on here i mean a lot of people only listen to pumped up kicks but listen to the whole album and you will see that they have a bunch of other really good songs

Sami, this is list totally different than the other one you made this year
awesom345 2 months ago
Kind of think it should have been American Capitalist instead of Th1rt3en, but other than that, I like the list. Can't wait for more albums in 2012!

I like your choices. Mine personally would be:
5. Sublime with Rome- Yours Truly
4. Cage the Elephant- Thank You, Happy Birthday
3. Blink-182- Neighborhoods
2. Incubus- If Not Now, When?
1. Foo Fighters-Wasting Light

@bingoblu thanks for your suggestion all the way from Roma!

I don't understand all the praise for Wasting Light. It's yet another average Foos record...not bad, not amazing either. I agree with the choice of Bon Iver though.
tristessa56079 2 months ago
Good list, I agree with Bon Iver being up there :) though I still stand by that Suck It And See by the Arctic Monkeys is one of 2011's greats.
