Basic gun safety 101 - don't ever point it at anything you aren't OK destroying. Even a spud gun could easily blind, maim, even kill a dog. 6 seconds after the dog crosses the barrel it fires - that is just 6 seconds difference between a safe shot and seriously injuring a dog.
