oh and why would a guy even be allowed to be put into the tree if he one hands a chains and also no hard hat and no eye wear. WTF guys asking to be killed
spuring on a pruning job WTF. but i do understand becuase ALOT of climbers here in hawaii use spurs and that is a BIG NO NO. if you ask me it takes more guts to use your climbing line and laynard to move around in the tree. spurring makes it easier but harms the tree. prolly a pussy footed wanna be climber who doesn't trust his gear and has no prior knowledge to using a climbing line. :)
Arborists cannot all be monitored for safety at all times. The solution is that if ANYONE present notices a safety issue, it should be brought up immediately. The work needs to stop and a solution to the safety problem must be found.
The tree care industry is sprawling. The crews would certainly agree that safety precautions need to be used if safety is the top priority. It is the responsibility of all of us to bring up infractions of safety rules.
In this video, a newly hired climber uses spurs to remove a large lead from a Cherry tree, and unfortunately keeps them on as he prunes the rest of the tree. My foreman corrected his behavior on-site, and it will never happen again. Our crew policies stress the importance of safety, quality tree work, and customer service, following ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 safety and pruning standards.
The absence of hard hats and safety glasses on the job is not ever acceptable and our employees who have violated our safety policy have been disciplined. This deviation from our policies should no way be a reflection of our safety procedures.
While I appreciate Mr. Oxman's dedication to upholding tree industry standards, his posting of this video without first giving me the opportunity to ascertain the facts of the situation, and his subsequent communications with other tree care professionals in the area about my tree service amounts to unprofessional harrassment and undermines our achievements and dedication to quality service.
