I don't know about the statistics around the probability of the World ending on account of the end of the Mayan calendar, but the statistics of Prof Cox causing a road accident by driving a car, on what appears to be a motorway, with a distinct lack of due care and attention, seem to indicate a rather higher level of significance!

I "discovered" Brian Cox a couple months ago: till then I thought there was going to be nobody, ever, I liked more than Prof. Richard Feynman, but I must admit Prof. Cox is doing a great job to get there. He may be not as brilliant (although I am not really in a position to judge that) but he is as perfectly clear, passionate AND reasonable. Go Prof Cox!

Neither the Mayan nor Aztec calendars refer to an end to the universe but rather the end of a cycle (involving human consciousness) and entry into a new one. There is a lot of symbolism and numerical patterns in these calendars - the origin of which we don't fully understand--
