Is it me or was Qui-Gon Jinn the WEAKEST JEDI MASTER EVER!? He took forever to detect Anakin, cold not spot the evil Palpatine while close to him, could NOT defeat Darth Maul with the AID of Obi-Wan Kenobi on a two-on-one battle; then on a one-on-one battle got KILLED by Darth Maul (keep in mind that Maul was just Palpatine's apprentice). And Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon's apprentice, finally finishes Darth Maul off!!! WTF??? Yoda and Mace Windu are/were so much more powerful than Qui-Gon!!! I wonder why!?

In the movie he had a good 3 sec to react to Obi-wan: When obi-wan "jump" out of the pit, when obi-wan was overhead, and when obi-wan landed on his feet. I mean come on not even a lightsaber block? Lucas sullied Maul's superb skill and speed. He could have easily been a recurring character thoughout the Clone Wars. But alas the same fate was true of General Grievous whom Lucas spit on aswell.

Not to mention up until that point his reflexes were second to none. Reacting within those 3 sec would have been childsplay but Lucas needed a way to rid him to make room for more sith so thats the way it goes. Lucas just did a poor job of portraying Maul's death and skill in this last segment.

The actual fighting we see in the film has Grievous perform far deadlier moves and tactics than Dooku. Lucas's writing and action doesnt match. Like in fight movies, good guy is losing then bad guy slaps his woman now the same punches bad blocked before suddenly get through or in some cases good guy actually fights more sloppy when mad but is suddenly winning. Lucas should have written into the films why Dooku was so good not just say he was.

Lucas's writng of ALL the saber fights lack continuity and make no sense. The 1st 3 films had limits due to the old style swordfighting. Maul defeats Qui Gon then killed by Obi Wan. Obi Wan is beat by Dooku 2TIMES like a child though Dooku is far less skilled than Maul. Anakin is beat by Dooku 1st time, 2nd time Dooku winning until Anakin gets mad then he easily kills Dooku but cant beat Obi Wan after killing a guy who was able to withstand Yoda. Sidious kills 3 skilled Jedi with basic strikes.

It also is strange that Obi Wan is beaten so easily by Dooku but he is able to dominate Grievous to the point that Grievous runs from him and Grievous had killed many Jedi easily and was faster and deadlier than Dooku because of the 4 arms. So even though some characters were supposedly better than others they never did anything "BETTER" in their fights and seemed to just win just because. Lucas shouldnt have just wrote "this guys better" he should have figured out why and then displayed it.

Dooku has a rep that he is but the actual fighting doesnt match the reps in STAR WARS. Lucas wrote that a character was superior but He never backed up those story points in the films. For example: Dooku makes a very casual move with his saber at Obi Wan and pokes his leg. He did nothing special to connect he was able to just because he was Dooku, while Obi Wan fended off a faster more deadly attack from Maul just because. But despite what Lucas says Maul was "PRESENTED" as more dangerous!

Dooku was one of the best duelists to ever come out of the Academy, only rivalled by Mace Windu and Yoda. However Makashi (the form Dooku uses) is not designed to battle stronger forms like the one Anakin uses in RotS.

Darth Sideous surprised two Jedi with his attack and eliminated the third because Sideous is a master of all current forms of Lightsaber Combat except Vappad.

My point is that some characters where written to be superior to others but on screen were not. Writers often through lazyness do not investigate the fighting wskills they write or in some cases the writer may actually be an on screen martial artist star and still fail to demonstrate why one character is better than the other. Like when Luke defeats Vader. The strikes were as simple as swinging at a baseball. But because the story called for it the simple strikes were too much for Vader.
