@EricW29 T-Mobile uses SIM cards, the EVO is for Sprint which doesn't use SIM cards so there is no way to use a non SIM card phone with a company that requires SIM cards.
after rooting, will I then, finally, be able to deactivate the camera button function that opens the camera when pressed every time I put this in my Proclip holder?
ok just to make sure this does unlock my phone and what does rooting your phone do for it cuz i ordered the phone and im not getting it for another 2days
hello i need help man i trid everything in the video but isas i need and update cus i have 4.24.651.1 version i dont know what that isss help please email e at latinno2008@gmail.com
hey man how can I get my update for my htc evo 4g, you know actually there's an update for it but I can't get it, my phone is rooted now and activated whith boost mobile and the phone says that it could get the update but I don' know how can I do that, could you help me with it please?
I know im not the guy who made this video, but in my honest opinion you might want to read about all the problems people had with the new update. Probably not a good idea and better to stick with something you can overclock & tether with no problems.. Just sayin'
Hi randy, can you find an auto root software for the new gingerbread 4.22.651.2 update? I didn't know when you update to the new 4.22.651.2 gingerbread; you can't use any of the previous rooting programs to root a phone such as the Evo 4G. I would really appreciate your help or the help of the YouTube community, because i really want to root my Evo 4G Thanks. :)
@EnragedSephiroth I had to go in my phone, go into applications running services and kill a few of those. Apparently background services eat up to much memory for it to run.
My software version is the same as yours, but my hardware version is 0004. I know you said yours was a 0003. Can I/should I still proceed? Thanks. Great video!
I just wanted to THANK YOU for having the foresight and not editing this video from real time. It was VERY helpful to see how long it was taking you to accomplish tasks, and that helped me stay at ease instead of freaking out when certain steps took what felt like a life time. Like anyone else can readily attest to: "me no like $600 paper weight" :-)
That was interesting. I rooted my EVO along with the video, and it was step for step to the halfway point, then my phone passed the video, then the video caught up and passed me...but in the end I've got a rooted EVO and it's awesome.
YES, the 4G works post-root. I was able to wirelessly tether my EVO to a XOOM while in a 4G area and receiving a 4G signal. Flawless!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that these videos could be greatly enhanced if he randomly screamed out cuss words... kinda like he has tourettes?
Example: @ 14:40 - it would be great if he just yelled out "Shut the Fuck UP!" to his birds in the background... and then went on like nothing had ever happened

Nice video. I just returned my last evo because of a cracked screen. It was hardware version 1 and I rooted using unrevoked forever. This way looks like an easier way, but my question is, IS it possible to UNroot from auto root?
Hi. Could you email the files i will have to use? i tried to download them from the link but they are all crap. none of them work. I ll give you my email if you agree. thanks.
@Splooshic mine was also 0004 and I used this method "autoroot".. I'm not sure what the issue is with the hardware number and was skeptical myself but I have already had 3 EVO's and figured why not make it 4. anyway it worked flawless and i am using the latest fresh rom. so far i am very satisfied. Maybe randy will tell us the issue with the hardware number.
Thanks Kentucky. I went ahead and used unrevoked3 to root then put Amon RA recovery on my phone. I just didn't want to wait hours to download the files because of my internet connection. But I'm happy I'm rooted though. Going to flash a ROM soon. I'm really interested in the MIUI ROM
@MP40Bullet MUI was designed by some chinese coders originally for Nexus One and Desire but was later ported for the Evo. bugs are fixed. I know it sounds like Im quoting some web page but I have done a lot of research on this rom because I was very interested in it when I seen it. As far as I know some of it was still in chinese text and I have been waiting for them to fix that before i flash it. it looks pretty cool. I like a lot of the features. Especially customizable dock at the bottom.
@MP40Bullet I just read the 4g and HDMI are not working on the MUI rom, if that matters to you. it doesn't me, My 4g works when I'm traveling but not at home so not big deal, and I have no use for the HDMI output. If you haven't flashed it yet Ill let you know how it goes, I'm about to do it now. I cant resist.
@MP40Bullet I flashed MIUI for EVO and I have to say it was pretty good. It was fast and simple to use. I took it off but not because of performance i took it off because I just dont like that ios style. but it was pretty cool. and my battery lasted what seemed like all day. with moderate use.
UPDATE! I am rooted! I booted the phone into recovery (red exclamation) without menu....and ran the autoroot version again... It recognized the phone and began the proccess, but when it was supposed to show the green arrows, it timeout because it can't restart from the red X (recovery screen), so.... repeated all the steps and when it wanted the green screen, pulled the battery and powered back on..(fake reboot) and it finished the process just fine! Running fast! How can i become a pro at this?
Hey randy! I found this video extremelt helpful and I want to say I followed it to the T. Two things though.... I didn't get that long HTC Start up screen that you got in the video...and it gave me the same error as DESMECKERT who posted 4 days ago about the "didn't ack...daemon error...." What's crazy is inbetween those errors, it says my phone is flashed and ready for ROms. Now I'm stuck on the white Screen...please help. Your vids were the reason I got rid of my Epic. THanks man
Hey Randy. Went to the link you posted from XDA. They have updated and I only see autoroot 2.3. Will that work? Also when you rooted your phone did it give you the "Superuser Permissions" app?
@MP40Bullet I used 2.3 and it worked fine. And I got the superuser permission. I am now running Fresh Evo ROM 3.5.0.1 by Flipz. After running Randy's Autoboot.bat I used Rom Manager By clockworkmod to install the new rom. After running autoboot.bat Download any EVO Rom and save it to your SD card and you can install from SD card with Rom Manager. I have rooted several phones and this was by far the simplest way. I really had to do nothing.
I got stuck at : Rebooting into the recovery... Waiting for the phone... ADB server didn't ACK * failed to start daemon * error: ** daemon still not runningerror: cannot connect to daemon ADB server didn't ACK * failed to start daemon * error:
Found the phone connected as 'recovery' Setting up a temporary Recovery...
@desmeckert Sounds like you dont have the ADB drivers installed. Install HTC Sync for EVO and it should work. If you have HTC Sync and you are still getting this error then something may be wrong with the drivers and you may have to manually install them. Do a youtube search and you will see how to install ADB. I have also had this problem and installed ADB manually and it worked fine. This video helped me.

@AXHEJAZ 4g works fine and it has with every ROM i've flashed, and with updating, just as when i jailbroke my ipod, don't think you should do it, just go back to complete factory, unroot, then update, then root again sort of thing i believe, unless you find it else where, but for everyone 4G STILL WORKS AFTER YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@AXHEJAZ I have used it several times in my travels with my laptop and it works great. I have BroadBand at home and when I tinkered with it there it seemed as fast as my 20.0 BroadBand. So yes I have complete access to my wifi tether, hotspot and and 4g. I love this phone. Thanks to all the hard work these guys put in for us we can enjoy these extra goodies. lol
@JJop123 Thought I would add I have been updating without any issues so far. Normally I agree with you, but so far I have had 3 updates without issues. And I have flashed 5 different roms. Works great. I am running Fresh Evo Rom by Flipz his latest release, its super stable and superfast with 4g, wifi tether and hotspot. It has also been tweaked to save battery life and It does seem to be working great.
@kentucky42420 good deal, glad to hear updates work normally, but when the official 2.3 update comes to the evo (hopefully :p) i may unroot and update, but who knows, i love 2.2 and i have messed around with different roms and kernals and am now completely satisfied with my phone, why could we do this FROM THE START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great vid by the way,,,, oh but where are all of the responses to the questions, also is there a way to reroot it and make it good for warranty again?
Can you please help? Everything worked fine until I had to manually choose to update, it started then got to the red exclaimation mark screen, it stopped on there for about 30 min and is still there! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I did everything you did, but after the first reboot where it says waiting on phone it tells me error cant find daemon, and it stopped there but my phone still looks like it got rooted, you know what happend?
would i still be able to update my phone via the update feature in the settings menu? Also would i be able to use 4G on my Evo, after it has been unlocked? Thanks
So this will do the full NAND unlock. I am familiar with loading other custom ROMs and updated radios. All I really need is the Autoroot AutoRoot v2.3 - Full Root Zip (MD5: 81552E826E0137FA4542C9072DCAAFC6). I just want to gain the full root access. I see you have the RUU on the desk top but never load it in the video
i want to only unlock the phone to use the wireless tethering feature, but i want to keep the original android operating system, i don't want to change the operating system, so does your tutorial only unlock the phone? Thank you for your help! if anyone else has info please let me know thank you!
i think something went wrong. when i got the the screen with the red triangle it just stays there and the cmd promt says "adb server is out of dat. killing...." do i take out my battery and start over?
Awesome easy to understand and easy to do. for those who may try make sure to run the Autoroot.bat as administrator. Also it was my fault but make sure you don't have pc36img.zip on sd like I did from other failed experiments.
Thanks for this AWESOME video. One thing you might want to annotate because it took me a minute to figure it out is that the HTC Sync is a program for the computer, which is not the HTC "Sync All" on the phone.
Hey I like your video. I've been on the XDA forums looking at the autoroot thread for several days. I think I understand it enough to go forward with it. I feel a little better knowing your phone has the exact same hardware and software versions as mine.
When you say "download RUU" do you mean on my desktop? Also, if something goes wrong and I want to reload my stock ROM do you have a video or instructions on how to do that?
i watched the video once and then again while rooting my phone and it worked perfectly. happened exactly the way it did in your video. no problems at all. thanks alot man!!!
@chicharin22 If you hold volume down while turning the phone on it will take you to the bootloader, use that to turn on fastboot and then you can flash the RUU
I just did this method today 2/2/11 at 11:30pm and mine still gets 4G fine. My phone was the same software version, but with H-boot. 2.10.001 so the method was slightly different (the autoroot told me what to do) and it was fine after that.
Im gonna miss ur epic vids ... but immature stay subscribed because my wife will be getting the evo soon and u have quality vids. Thanx for all ur vids much appreciated!
First, thanks for all your help with my epic. W/o you I'd still be stock. Really man, thanks. Second, I can't say I agree with you about the bickering on the epic forums. But I will agree regarding the support comparison with the evo. And last, if I were you i'd have waited until after the Feb. 7 event sprint is hosting in nyc before going evo. Kept your epic subscriber base you already established and then gotten on the next gen train. But with the quality your pumping out, evo fans will come.
Ive been tryin to root my phone and nothing works can anybody inbox me and help

Does the hardware number actually matter? Because mine is 0004... Thanks!
Splooshic 1 year ago

MP40Bullet 1 year ago
@MP40Bullet MUI was designed by some chinese coders originally for Nexus One and Desire but was later ported for the Evo. bugs are fixed. I know it sounds like Im quoting some web page but I have done a lot of research on this rom because I was very interested in it when I seen it. As far as I know some of it was still in chinese text and I have been waiting for them to fix that before i flash it. it looks pretty cool. I like a lot of the features. Especially customizable dock at the bottom.
kentucky42420 1 year ago
@MP40Bullet I just read the 4g and HDMI are not working on the MUI rom, if that matters to you. it doesn't me, My 4g works when I'm traveling but not at home so not big deal, and I have no use for the HDMI output. If you haven't flashed it yet Ill let you know how it goes, I'm about to do it now. I cant resist.
kentucky42420 1 year ago
@MP40Bullet I flashed MIUI for EVO and I have to say it was pretty good. It was fast and simple to use. I took it off but not because of performance i took it off because I just dont like that ios style. but it was pretty cool. and my battery lasted what seemed like all day. with moderate use.

This wil unlock the phone and make it work for any carrier in the world???!!

MP40Bullet 1 year ago
@MP40Bullet I used 2.3 and it worked fine. And I got the superuser permission. I am now running Fresh Evo ROM 3.5.0.1 by Flipz. After running Randy's Autoboot.bat I used Rom Manager By clockworkmod to install the new rom. After running autoboot.bat Download any EVO Rom and save it to your SD card and you can install from SD card with Rom Manager. I have rooted several phones and this was by far the simplest way. I really had to do nothing.

Hope I can roll back.

@JJop123 can you still update the phone from the settings menu, than update? also does the 4G work ok? Thanks!
AXHEJAZ 1 year ago
@AXHEJAZ 4g works fine and it has with every ROM i've flashed, and with updating, just as when i jailbroke my ipod, don't think you should do it, just go back to complete factory, unroot, then update, then root again sort of thing i believe, unless you find it else where, but for everyone 4G STILL WORKS AFTER YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JJop123 1 year ago
@JJop123 So in regards to updates it won't work, but 4G works fine. cool thanks bro!

@kentucky42420 ok cool thanks! hey can you use the wireless tethering feature?
AXHEJAZ 1 year ago
@AXHEJAZ I have used it several times in my travels with my laptop and it works great. I have BroadBand at home and when I tinkered with it there it seemed as fast as my 20.0 BroadBand. So yes I have complete access to my wifi tether, hotspot and and 4g. I love this phone. Thanks to all the hard work these guys put in for us we can enjoy these extra goodies. lol
kentucky42420 1 year ago
@JJop123 Thought I would add I have been updating without any issues so far. Normally I agree with you, but so far I have had 3 updates without issues. And I have flashed 5 different roms. Works great. I am running Fresh Evo Rom by Flipz his latest release, its super stable and superfast with 4g, wifi tether and hotspot. It has also been tweaked to save battery life and It does seem to be working great.
kentucky42420 1 year ago
@kentucky42420 good deal, glad to hear updates work normally, but when the official 2.3 update comes to the evo (hopefully :p) i may unroot and update, but who knows, i love 2.2 and i have messed around with different roms and kernals and am now completely satisfied with my phone, why could we do this FROM THE START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JJop123 1 year ago
hey randy can you upload a video of how to unroot and return to stock? I too had an epic and am thinking about switching to the evo because of you :P

@ElRoodo What did you end up doing? My EVO is stuck on the red triangle as well. Did you have to flash back to the RUU from sprint?

So this will do the full NAND unlock. I am familiar with loading other custom ROMs and updated radios. All I really need is the Autoroot AutoRoot v2.3 - Full Root Zip (MD5: 81552E826E0137FA4542C9072DCAAFC6). I just want to gain the full root access. I see you have the RUU on the desk top but never load it in the video

Why do you say it is hard to brick the epic? like what makes it that hard to brick
kenqui232 1 year ago
Awesome easy to understand and easy to do. for those who may try make sure to run the Autoroot.bat as administrator. Also it was my fault but make sure you don't have pc36img.zip on sd like I did from other failed experiments.
BTW 4g works still .
ape2506 1 year ago
Thanks for this AWESOME video. One thing you might want to annotate because it took me a minute to figure it out is that the HTC Sync is a program for the computer, which is not the HTC "Sync All" on the phone.
Otherwise, fantastic video!

Will this wipe all data off my phone?(pics, contacts...etc...) Should I do a hard reset before rooting using this method?
gregnese 1 year ago
Hey I like your video. I've been on the XDA forums looking at the autoroot thread for several days. I think I understand it enough to go forward with it. I feel a little better knowing your phone has the exact same hardware and software versions as mine.
When you say "download RUU" do you mean on my desktop? Also, if something goes wrong and I want to reload my stock ROM do you have a video or instructions on how to do that?
AxionBastard 1 year ago
i watched the video once and then again while rooting my phone and it worked perfectly. happened exactly the way it did in your video. no problems at all. thanks alot man!!!

@chicharin22 If you hold volume down while turning the phone on it will take you to the bootloader, use that to turn on fastboot and then you can flash the RUU

"does the 4g still work??
I just did this method today 2/2/11 at 11:30pm and mine still gets 4G fine. My phone was the same software version, but with H-boot. 2.10.001 so the method was slightly different (the autoroot told me what to do) and it was fine after that.

@Goatman42069 Have u been able to test if 4g works Goatman

@Goatman42069: If you are in a 4g area it will still work after root. However some roms do not use the wimax(4g) like MIUI.

bobbiandbrandon 1 year ago
First, thanks for all your help with my epic. W/o you I'd still be stock. Really man, thanks. Second, I can't say I agree with you about the bickering on the epic forums. But I will agree regarding the support comparison with the evo. And last, if I were you i'd have waited until after the Feb. 7 event sprint is hosting in nyc before going evo. Kept your epic subscriber base you already established and then gotten on the next gen train. But with the quality your pumping out, evo fans will come.
