  • Ive been tryin to root my phone and nothing works can anybody inbox me and help

  • I wish you would of gave all the links in the description because I can't see anything really with that cam you used.. That would be totally awesome if you could put the links in the description! (Please & Thank you)

  • What is your wallpaper

  • from where u download the autoroot v2.2 ?

  • Can I use this with T-mobile? Im about to buy an EVO so I can unlock it.. Is it possible?

  • @EricW29 T-Mobile uses SIM cards, the EVO is for Sprint which doesn't use SIM cards so there is no way to use a non SIM card phone with a company that requires SIM cards.

  • Btw Randy, there's a lot easier way to root your phone on 2.2 now. Just download the program from unrevoked.

  • If I do this will it work on another carrier

  • @superYerison No. This is only to root your phone. Your thinking about unlocking a phone.

  • does it work with t-mobile or at&t

  • will it work on other carries besides sprint???? please answer ASAP i really wanna know. and i'm worried so please answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mixxx9876 should work with verizon since they have the same network

  • i have a question i have a METRO PCS flashed htc evo and if i root the phone now will it erase the flash..pls answer if you know!

  • after rooting, will I then, finally, be able to deactivate the camera button function that opens the camera when pressed every time I put this in my Proclip holder?

  • Hi just a question after this steps it will be ready to activate with metro ?

  • @aralecute No. You have to unlock your phone to use with another carrier. This is ONLY to root the phone.

  • ok just to make sure this does unlock my phone and what does rooting your phone do for it cuz i ordered the phone and im not getting it for another 2days

  • Great video, Randy!

  • will this method wipe my phone? I do not want to lose all my contacts and text message logs etc.

    thanks

  • Great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, now I'm about to switch services.. I've been wanting to root my phone for like forever

  • @ YouTube, I notice 5 low lifes neg this video please correct this situation ASAP.

Thanks, someone who just finished rooting his EVO 4G following this easy to follow and super useful video.

    Thanks Man! You Rock!

  • you sound like owen wilson

  • @peterouse32 but will it unlock the htc evo?

  • how can I get free hotspot without paying the $29 a month?

  • @jaylov168

LMAO.. If your really asking this question, you probably should not attempt to do any of this.

  • hey man how can I get my update for my htc evo 4g, you know actually there's an update for it but I can't get it, my phone is rooted now and activated whith boost mobile and the phone says that it could get the update but I don' know how can I do that, could you help me with it please?

  • @LUISRG1286

I know im not the guy who made this video, but in my honest opinion you might want to read about all the problems people had with the new update. Probably not a good idea and better to stick with something you can overclock & tether with no problems.. Just sayin'

  • I have same software but a different hardware version should i still try this? I have 0004

  • I have same software but a different hardware version should i still try this?

  • Did anyone check to see if we got netflix on this root?

  • Hi randy, can you find an auto root software for the new gingerbread 4.22.651.2 update? I didn't know when you update to the new 4.22.651.2 gingerbread; you can't use any of the previous rooting programs to root a phone such as the Evo 4G. I would really appreciate your help or the help of the YouTube community, because i really want to root my Evo 4G Thanks. :)

  • Randy, GREAT video!!! I want to ask a favor that will benefit many people.

You show how to root, PLEASE follow up with a video of you showing how to return to full stock... Thanks again for your help.

  • "Failed to get a root shell. Please restart your phone and try again."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • @EnragedSephiroth I had to go in my phone, go into applications running services and kill a few of those. Apparently background services eat up to much memory for it to run.

  • @EnragedSephiroth I had the same problem what you have to do is exactly wry againhat it says to do just restart and try again

  • @TheBuckrogers102098 10 attempts later, it still doesn't work. This took too long. I had to forego Amon Ra and went with unrEVOked instead.

  • My software version is the same as yours, but my hardware version is 0004. I know you said yours was a 0003. Can I/should I still proceed? Thanks. Great video!

  • Great video, but you forgot one wee bit of a detail...CONFIRM ROOT?

  • will it work for my HTC Desire HD?

  • @MrNeotanker dude go to the xda desire hd section, it has its own tutorial (bbubys root method or hack kit)

  • @echizenn808 thanks

  • i keep getting failed to get root shell, please restart your phone and try again. any help would b greatly appreciated. thx

  • I just wanted to THANK YOU for having the foresight and not editing this video from real time. It was VERY helpful to see how long it was taking you to accomplish tasks, and that helped me stay at ease instead of freaking out when certain steps took what felt like a life time. Like anyone else can readily attest to: "me no like $600 paper weight" :-)

  • That was interesting. I rooted my EVO along with the video, and it was step for step to the halfway point, then my phone passed the video, then the video caught up and passed me...but in the end I've got a rooted EVO and it's awesome.

YES, the 4G works post-root. I was able to wirelessly tether my EVO to a XOOM while in a 4G area and receiving a 4G signal. Flawless!

  • excellent worked perfectly now what do i do?

  • excellent worked just like the video demo showed awesome lol now what do i do?

  • Internet Explorer? shameeee.

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else think that these videos could be greatly enhanced if he randomly screamed out cuss words... kinda like he has tourettes?

Example: @ 14:40 - it would be great if he just yelled out "Shut the Fuck UP!" to his birds in the background... and then went on like nothing had ever happened

  • I followed the instructions on your video and my phone did exactly the same thing as yours at exactly the same time. This video is awesome!

  • did he died?

  • very helpful video, thanks for sharing!

  • Wanted to know if this wipes your SD Card and if you need to back up everything on it. Please let me know thanks!! :)

  • this is so easy i have 2.4 auto-root.zip you don't have to do anything just run auto run.batch. make sure your phone is fully charge and you have the correct information before doing it.

  • you said " if we are lucky it will run the script on its own" well mine stops at that screen and it doesnt run it on its own?? what should i do now?? thank you!

  • need help! after looking for root.... my screen says restarting adb server...

    *server not running*

*daemon not running.starting it now on port 5037*

    *daemon started successfully*

Failed to get root shell. restart the phone and try again...

Which i have done and got hte same result. What should i do??

  • @rctube411 did u figure this out. im getting the same thing

  • ok after i do the autoroot v2.4 how do i put clockworkmodrecovery on the evo 4g

  • hey bro, which links do i download ?

  • Can someone just make this shit One Click already. -_- z4root seemed hopeful...until Nand got it the way...

  • worked like a charm, thanks bro.

  • im new to rooting, when i download link on xda it says ilivid im not seeing autoroot.. please help!!!

  • im getting a black screen when i click on the superuser app can some one help me

  • Great video of which i followed step by step. It did every thing urs did, so i thought it WORKED. My Backup Pro says i have root acess, but ROM Mgr isn't allowing boot into recovery due to S-ON. (Upon some investigation, it seems when i look at HBOOT screen at top, it says Supersonic s-ON where it should say S-OFF to have FULL Root Access.) Any suggestions, i am a newbie so speak slowly if you can : ) but having a foot in BOTH WORLDS (rooted & unrooted) is killin' meeee!!!

    ty!

  • Am I the only one that got a huge Virus Alert from some of the indicated files? Microsoft Security Essentials Alert: Potential Threat. File ....\res\rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin Exploit:Unix/Lotoor Alert level: Severe: Status Suspended Recommended action:remove. This from the Autoroot_v2.4 file. So...yea. I'll just stop there.

  • @LazyEngineer1 I had the same message from MSE. If you check the info on Microsoft's site it states that it's dangerous because it gives root access to android phones. Which is what we want to do! I'd say that the Auto Root 2.4 is good

  • now that i have rooted .. i want to take the evo to my home country ( india ) and use it with another cdma provided ... how do i go about doing that ... what is that one brick that i need to hit so that i can take the evo from sprint and use it with other cdma providers ...

  • my version is 0002 will it still work?? please help

  • Nice kentucky

  • Nice video. I just returned my last evo because of a cracked screen. It was hardware version 1 and I rooted using unrevoked forever. This way looks like an easier way, but my question is, IS it possible to UNroot from auto root?

  • Hi. Could you email the files i will have to use? i tried to download them from the link but they are all crap. none of them work. I ll give you my email if you agree. thanks.

  • im stuck on pushing res pc36img_ud.zip to sdcard pc36img

  • Does the hardware number actually matter? Because mine is 0004... Thanks!

  • @Splooshic mine was also 0004 and I used this method "autoroot".. I'm not sure what the issue is with the hardware number and was skeptical myself but I have already had 3 EVO's and figured why not make it 4. anyway it worked flawless and i am using the latest fresh rom. so far i am very satisfied. Maybe randy will tell us the issue with the hardware number.

  • Thanks Kentucky. I went ahead and used unrevoked3 to root then put Amon RA recovery on my phone. I just didn't want to wait hours to download the files because of my internet connection. But I'm happy I'm rooted though. Going to flash a ROM soon. I'm really interested in the MIUI ROM

  • @MP40Bullet MUI was designed by some chinese coders originally for Nexus One and Desire but was later ported for the Evo. bugs are fixed. I know it sounds like Im quoting some web page but I have done a lot of research on this rom because I was very interested in it when I seen it. As far as I know some of it was still in chinese text and I have been waiting for them to fix that before i flash it. it looks pretty cool. I like a lot of the features. Especially customizable dock at the bottom.

  • @MP40Bullet I just read the 4g and HDMI are not working on the MUI rom, if that matters to you. it doesn't me, My 4g works when I'm traveling but not at home so not big deal, and I have no use for the HDMI output. If you haven't flashed it yet Ill let you know how it goes, I'm about to do it now. I cant resist.

  • @MP40Bullet I flashed MIUI for EVO and I have to say it was pretty good. It was fast and simple to use. I took it off but not because of performance i took it off because I just dont like that ios style. but it was pretty cool. and my battery lasted what seemed like all day. with moderate use.

  • This wil unlock the phone and make it work for any carrier in the world???!!

  • UPDATE! I am rooted! I booted the phone into recovery (red exclamation) without menu....and ran the autoroot version again... It recognized the phone and began the proccess, but when it was supposed to show the green arrows, it timeout because it can't restart from the red X (recovery screen), so.... repeated all the steps and when it wanted the green screen, pulled the battery and powered back on..(fake reboot) and it finished the process just fine! Running fast! How can i become a pro at this?

  • Hey randy! I found this video extremelt helpful and I want to say I followed it to the T. Two things though.... I didn't get that long HTC Start up screen that you got in the video...and it gave me the same error as DESMECKERT who posted 4 days ago about the "didn't ack...daemon error...." What's crazy is inbetween those errors, it says my phone is flashed and ready for ROms. Now I'm stuck on the white Screen...please help. Your vids were the reason I got rid of my Epic. THanks man

  • Hey Randy. Went to the link you posted from XDA. They have updated and I only see autoroot 2.3. Will that work? Also when you rooted your phone did it give you the "Superuser Permissions" app?

  • @MP40Bullet I used 2.3 and it worked fine. And I got the superuser permission. I am now running Fresh Evo ROM 3.5.0.1 by Flipz. After running Randy's Autoboot.bat I used Rom Manager By clockworkmod to install the new rom. After running autoboot.bat Download any EVO Rom and save it to your SD card and you can install from SD card with Rom Manager. I have rooted several phones and this was by far the simplest way. I really had to do nothing.

  • Hope I can roll back.

I got stuck at : Rebooting into the recovery... Waiting for the phone... ADB server didn't ACK * failed to start daemon * error: ** daemon still not runningerror: cannot connect to daemon ADB server didn't ACK * failed to start daemon * error:

Found the phone connected as 'recovery' Setting up a temporary Recovery...

  • @desmeckert Sounds like you dont have the ADB drivers installed. Install HTC Sync for EVO and it should work. If you have HTC Sync and you are still getting this error then something may be wrong with the drivers and you may have to manually install them. Do a youtube search and you will see how to install ADB. I have also had this problem and installed ADB manually and it worked fine. This video helped me.

  • Thank you, IT WORKED!!! 4G seems to be working.

  • My phone is now rooted :) a great day for mankind

  • @JJop123 can you still update the phone from the settings menu, than update? also does the 4G work ok? Thanks!

  • @AXHEJAZ 4g works fine and it has with every ROM i've flashed, and with updating, just as when i jailbroke my ipod, don't think you should do it, just go back to complete factory, unroot, then update, then root again sort of thing i believe, unless you find it else where, but for everyone 4G STILL WORKS AFTER YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @JJop123 So in regards to updates it won't work, but 4G works fine. cool thanks bro!

  • @AXHEJAZ Updates fine here.

  • @kentucky42420 ok cool thanks! hey can you use the wireless tethering feature?

  • @AXHEJAZ I have used it several times in my travels with my laptop and it works great. I have BroadBand at home and when I tinkered with it there it seemed as fast as my 20.0 BroadBand. So yes I have complete access to my wifi tether, hotspot and and 4g. I love this phone. Thanks to all the hard work these guys put in for us we can enjoy these extra goodies. lol

  • @JJop123 Thought I would add I have been updating without any issues so far. Normally I agree with you, but so far I have had 3 updates without issues. And I have flashed 5 different roms. Works great. I am running Fresh Evo Rom by Flipz his latest release, its super stable and superfast with 4g, wifi tether and hotspot. It has also been tweaked to save battery life and It does seem to be working great.

  • @kentucky42420 good deal, glad to hear updates work normally, but when the official 2.3 update comes to the evo (hopefully :p) i may unroot and update, but who knows, i love 2.2 and i have messed around with different roms and kernals and am now completely satisfied with my phone, why could we do this FROM THE START!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey randy can you upload a video of how to unroot and return to stock? I too had an epic and am thinking about switching to the evo because of you :P

  • Comment removed

  • great vid by the way,,,, oh but where are all of the responses to the questions, also is there a way to reroot it and make it good for warranty again?

  • Can you please help? Everything worked fine until I had to manually choose to update, it started then got to the red exclaimation mark screen, it stopped on there for about 30 min and is still there! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • @ElRoodo What did you end up doing? My EVO is stuck on the red triangle as well. Did you have to flash back to the RUU from sprint?

  • I did everything you did, but after the first reboot where it says waiting on phone it tells me error cant find daemon, and it stopped there but my phone still looks like it got rooted, you know what happend?

  • So this will do the full NAND unlock. I am familiar with loading other custom ROMs and updated radios. All I really need is the Autoroot AutoRoot v2.3 - Full Root Zip (MD5: 81552E826E0137FA4542C9072DCAAFC6). I just want to gain the full root access. I see you have the RUU on the desk top but never load it in the video

  • what does ADB shell does not have root permission means

  • i want to only unlock the phone to use the wireless tethering feature, but i want to keep the original android operating system, i don't want to change the operating system, so does your tutorial only unlock the phone? Thank you for your help! if anyone else has info please let me know thank you!

  • @AXHEJAZ yeah it only unlocks the phone it keeps stock OS

  • @z3r0sky thanks for the reply! One more question, would i still be able to update my phone via the update feature in the settings menu? thanks again!

  • can you still update android version after you root it? do you need to unroot it first to update it or there is no need to?

  • rooted my evo.very easy thanks to your how to video.

  • i meant out of date

  • i think something went wrong. when i got the the screen with the red triangle it just stays there and the cmd promt says "adb server is out of dat. killing...." do i take out my battery and start over?

  • This was AWESOME thank you!!!

  • Autoroot doesn't work, the file is corrupted from both download sources.

  • I'm getting stuck @ "Failed to get a root shell, please restart your phone and try again". Any advice? Thank you.

  • Why do you say it is hard to brick the epic? like what makes it that hard to brick

  • Awesome easy to understand and easy to do. for those who may try make sure to run the Autoroot.bat as administrator. Also it was my fault but make sure you don't have pc36img.zip on sd like I did from other failed experiments.

    BTW 4g works still .

  • Thanks for this AWESOME video. One thing you might want to annotate because it took me a minute to figure it out is that the HTC Sync is a program for the computer, which is not the HTC "Sync All" on the phone.

    Otherwise, fantastic video!

  • Will this wipe all data off my phone?(pics, contacts...etc...) Should I do a hard reset before rooting using this method?

  • Hey I like your video. I've been on the XDA forums looking at the autoroot thread for several days. I think I understand it enough to go forward with it. I feel a little better knowing your phone has the exact same hardware and software versions as mine.

When you say "download RUU" do you mean on my desktop? Also, if something goes wrong and I want to reload my stock ROM do you have a video or instructions on how to do that?

  • i watched the video once and then again while rooting my phone and it worked perfectly. happened exactly the way it did in your video. no problems at all. thanks alot man!!!

  • Great vid!!! can't wait for the rom testing you gonna post up.

  • Hi man, I tried this and I got screwed. All I get is a white screen htc Evo 4G, I need help please...

  • @chicharin22 If you hold volume down while turning the phone on it will take you to the bootloader, use that to turn on fastboot and then you can flash the RUU

  • does the 4g still work??

  • @Goatman42069 Sorry, IDK.. No 4g in my area.

  • @randyshear Yes, 4G still works on my EVO.

  • @Goatman42069

    "does the 4g still work??

I just did this method today 2/2/11 at 11:30pm and mine still gets 4G fine. My phone was the same software version, but with H-boot. 2.10.001 so the method was slightly different (the autoroot told me what to do) and it was fine after that.

  • @Goatman42069 Have u been able to test if 4g works Goatman

  • @Goatman42069: If you are in a 4g area it will still work after root. However some roms do not use the wimax(4g) like MIUI.

  • @Goatman42069 yes it does!!!

  • Imma not immature ...stupid auto correct

  • Im gonna miss ur epic vids ... but immature stay subscribed because my wife will be getting the evo soon and u have quality vids. Thanx for all ur vids much appreciated!

  • why did you switch from the Epic to the Evo. I have had the Evo and in my opinion the Epic is much better

  • I am getting my evo next monday or tuesday and I will attempt the same thing you are doing in this video root my evo.

  • A I had first rootd my phone with unrevocked I unrooted my phone and rooted with auto root now I can't flash some roms plese help what should I do

  • First, thanks for all your help with my epic. W/o you I'd still be stock. Really man, thanks. Second, I can't say I agree with you about the bickering on the epic forums. But I will agree regarding the support comparison with the evo. And last, if I were you i'd have waited until after the Feb. 7 event sprint is hosting in nyc before going evo. Kept your epic subscriber base you already established and then gotten on the next gen train. But with the quality your pumping out, evo fans will come.

  • Thank alot man

  • No more epic videos :(

    No more subscribing

  • @Mighty442 Umm.. ??? Ok... Bye

  • @Mighty442

    Yup, unsubscribed.

  • A on tha. Auto root wich zip should I download the first second or third zip for auto root plese help and is this better than unrevoked thanks

  • @bobbiandbrandon Download the Autoroot FULL.
