For all of you advocating direct voting...have you seen the pathetic American Idol watching, jock sniffing, Oprah "bean" rubbing fools that we have in this country? You want them to vote on issues? Add in to the fact that about 16% of this country works for the government (and maybe double that to include spouses and their families), 47% pay no taxes, and 50% of the population is of below average intelligence. You want these plebians to vote themselves a "raise"...fools!
my theory about consumer spending: decades ago, if banks flirted with insolvency, folks would withdraw all their money. but what if hundreds of millions of americans don't have any money anyway? what if the debt to deposit ratio is, like, 2:1? then, what you get is not a bank run, but in essence, a credit run - they spend more of the bank's money for fear that the credit is going to dry up soon. and why not max out your credit? not like households have anything to lose (like savings), right?
@apagoogoo "they spend more of the bank's money for fear that the credit is going to dry up soon. and why not max out your credit?"
That's exactly what I've done with multiple zero-percent cards over the last year, but I used them to buy silver, even after I took 90% of my saved dollars out to put into silver. The best money move I've ever made!
Lower your standard of living now (and use the savings to buy silver) and avoid being forced to later by the market, to paraphrase Doug Casey.
A freind of mine has a Sister that owns an AG/Farm machinery dealership in the Midwest. She has said that a lot of Farmers are coming in and buying machinery for CASH.........because they have pulled all their money out of the banks!! This may also lend credability to the concern of buying tangibles Now beofre the dollar becomes worthless.
Corzine is a despicable crook. The things his campaign said about Chris Christie show what kind of scum Corzine is. I think he is the illegitimate uncle of Michael Moore!
Political solution- add a direct democracy to our constitutional republic by adding an online voting system to the senate where senators continue to write bills but vote publicly along side the citizens (to avoid fraud) . There is no need for two House of Representatives when we can represent ourselves.
@deshaebeasley Not bad... Here is my idea for fiscal government. Congress can lower taxes permanently by simple majority. Congress can only raise taxes for 1 year by super majority. Each year the Congress must vote to maintain that higher tax rate and the number to maintain that tax rate goes up by 1 vote each year.
@HyperReport good I would prefer no taxation, however if you're going to tax, there should be sales/consumption tax on non-food items only. The states should have independant sales taxes and the federal government gets 1% of each state's tax for every representative it has in the house of reps. All the money the federal government needs money for is to protect its citizens from force domestic and foreign lol
@deshaebeasley That is a good idea, but then we need to restore the constitutional republic and allow the state representatives to pick the senators not the people. We need to repeal the 17th amendment or the states have no real power. Most people don't realize we are supposed to be a union of states more like Europe; that Rhode Island or New Hampshire are supposed to be more like independent countries like France or Germany used to be.
@dpla5762 I agree with repealing the 17th amendment but I would also add a direct democracy to our constitutional republic thus giving citizens a voice in the matter. We should add an online voting system or electronic w/ receipts (depending on state) to the senate and senators continue to write bills and vote publicly along side the citizens (to avoid fraud) . There is no need for two House of Representatives when we can represent ourselves..the politicians love to give away power anyway lulz
