I have these two cameras, Canon is the best for the low light extra crisp but perfect picture. Sony is for that need to take the picture ASAP and click did I get it "Yes", thanks Sony. You see, both are good. And both play a different part in photography . I love my a55 , don't like the video stoping and telling me it's to hot needs to cool down crap but , I like it. I , sold both of these and last week got the a77 and the new nex 7 and waiting on my canon 1dx , I work for a camera company so I
it is very hard to get an audience on youtube especially for new channels.
although everyone is writing 'check out my channel', i think you should do that (i do that aswell) because the videos might be really good although no one is watching them.
so: check out my channel about photography and comedy!
Yes and that is why Sony cameras are flooding the photography industry as a top competitor for....oh wait. They aren't. But this video was fun, good job on being able to focus on a wall. Build your career on that. :)
Over the last 3 decades I owned Minolta, Nikon and Canon (D)SLRs. The one I really loved was the Minolta. Now I own a Sony a900 and it is a purist camera - which I like. I can see that the test is representative. The a900 never lets you down in fast focus. I have not experienced any hunting at all.
I love the prism shape on top of the camera, reminds me of my old Minolta XD11, no doubt the designers wanted to incorporate some of that old minolta heritage into their cameras, I think that's cool because minolta made some outstanding cameras.
@jmekill build quality wise, i'll agree with you there but since the 50L is 4x the price of the 1.4 of course it's going to be better. but that doesnt make the 1.4 version a crappy lens by any means.
"the true ability of canon?" you've gotta be kidding. i don't mean to sound too dick-ish but the last time i checked, the PHOTOGRAPHER has ability. the camera/lens are merely tools to create. there are plenty of pros who shoot 1.4. owning L lenses dont mean shit.
@jmekill yes the title of the video is Test focus - 5D MarkII & A900 not L lenses are better than everything else. of course a pro would buy the best of the best that goes without saying especially if thats how they put food on the table. i actually never said that L lenses aren't good. They're canon's best. BUT my entire point is that the 50 1.4 is not a crap lens. its optics are comparable to the 50L. of course the L has better build, bokeh, and sharper wide open but it costs 4x as much.
you said "owning L lenses dont mean shit" and now you say"of course the L has better build, bokeh, and sharper wide open" so to you Better build, bokeh, sharper dont mean shit?
you said"the PHOTOGRAPHER has ability. the camera/lens are merely tools to create"
I agree partially but if what you said is 100% ture then there is no point buying a DSLR at all cause compact cameras are cameras and photographers just need a "tool" right?
@jmekill it doesnt mean shit. a pro can make beautiful photos with a nifty 50 but like i said if it puts bread on the table they would buy the best for reliability and for the better optics i mentioned. its not a necessity, its peace of mind.
your second statement is spot on. a pro can create a beautiful, well composed, interesting, properly exposed image with a compact. BUT who in their right minds would use that pros work. you could barely view it large on flickr before quality drops.
@jmekill not how i think at all. skill > lens >camera. in this particular case we are talking about 50s which are all sharp so lens takes a back seat in this discussion. there are pros out there (ie chase jarvis) who openly express the use of the nifty 50. with that said its more about HOW it is used. sometimes sharpness can even take a back seat if the image is well composed and exposed properly.
the reason why i said "Buy a L lens for Canon" at the very beginning is simply to compare the best with the best. Actually 50L focus much slower than F1.4...I only wanted a fair competition after all...
A lack of objectivity just shows ignorance. The only real advantage of canikon is the larger range of lenses, bodies and gear. Its important to keep in mind that this test only shows one aspect of autofocus, low light ability to find focus on a plain surface. In this case the 5d didn't lock and reverted to hunting, had there been something to lock onto the result may have been different. If you care about the noise the shutter makes you need to learn about what really matters in photography.
Dude, what a stupid test, you have two completely different lenses, with two completely different focus motors, and you're trying to get them to focus on a white wall...a blank white wall....Why don't you make a dingy, dark, depressing, and terribly shot video of these two cameras actually focusing on AN OBJECT, with similar lenses, instead of just hating on Canon and Nikon, who are undoubtedly superior. Because as of now I'm thinking you know absolutely nothing about cameras.
You must be a canut... Iv'e used both and found that the a900 and D700 are much more accurate than the 5Dmk2 however the 5D mk2 is faster to it's credit...
I am a sony alpha user. I think there should be a subject to be focused on to.
but since I am a alpha user, I should say canon sucks.. (lol just kidding, canon is an awesome camera, I have used pentax, nikon and my friend handed me a canon and these are great slrs'. truely great.)
So, when I get the canon 1dx this week I will do a comparison ok guys!!

compare to Canon 50mm F1.2, 1.4 truly is just crap, I am not only a know it all but I also have both lenses.
All my lens are L and I think non-L doesn't reflect the true ability of Canon

ok go to any photography studio with a canon camera, and please tell me why most of them use L lens? Explain that to me please?! Coincident?
