do'se anyone know the guy who is always lifted by the Army in these videos?I would love to buy him a few pints. I WAS ONLY 16 AT THE TIME BUT MY DAD WAS ON STRIKE
Thatcher's long term objective was achieved the splitting of the working class as a whole(a necessary evil needed to do dirty jobs and to fight wars according to winston churchill who sent in the army to shhot striking miners in the 20's) the ripple effect that we see today with the majority of people self interested and dislocated from their neighbours the hierachy has never cared never will that is why we should think for ourselves and refuse their wars and media lies!
The strike called for by scargill was LEGAL. 1979/1980 I worked at Daw Mill colliery in Warwickshire and they held a national ballot that year to give the national executive commitee of the NUM the power to call a withrawal of labour /strike instead of having a national ballot. I personally voted against, but the motion was carried, and i accepted the result of the ballot.
The gov't however never balloted me on the purchase of Trident nuclear missiles or the Falklands conflict (war).
The UDM was a scab union supported, used and praised by Thatcher.Anyone who was a member of the UDM was a blackleg who had deserted the NUM and its members in thier hour of need.Instead of showing solidarity to thier fellow miners and fighting against pit closiers, because no pits in Notts were in danger, they said sod you to the men in other coalfields whose pits were threatened, and continued to work. They were Scabs and what was Thatchers reward, she said thank you by shutting thier pits as well
Hello, I'm a Performing Arts degree student. I don't know much about the mining strike, other than what i have read on the internet. I'm trying to investigate personal stories of the effects the strike had on families: wives and children of those on strike. As well as those who continued to work.

Okay. I hope your dad enjoyed his wages, watching everyone else go poor for what they believe was right. He didn't care. He just wanted his money, right? And what came of it? The upper class triumphs over you anyway. Bravo.

No, its you who have no idea, If your father worked during the strike then he was and always will be a SCAB. He betrayed his own kind in thier hour of need, turned his back on fellow miners fighting for thier jobs. He is and always wll be a traitor to his own class. Although my colliery has now shut down I can still hold my head high with dignity for unlike your father I stood side by side with my fellow miners in the fight for the right to work.

You have no fucking idea. My dad worked because the strike was illegal, and thatcher was only threatening to close 30 pits.
As with all industries in this country the government don't want to own any them (airways, railways, gas, telephone etc etc).
Scargill enraged thatcher through clashing miners and paved the way to get her own back and to go ahead and close all the pits and not just 30 of them.
Get your fucking facts right, before you take the easy option and call people scabs.
You muppet!! Your scabby dad was fooled into scabbing and swallowed lies spewing from thatchers mouth. How I laughed after the strike when the scabs marched to protest they had been betrayed by the government who now closed their pits! YOU have no grasp of the "fucking facts": If the strike was illegal, name ONE miner who was prosecuted for it. You can't, can you? Your father was the fucking lowest of the low, a scab, and trying to rewrite history won't change that one iota
He worked because he thought his pit was safe then? Nice. Using illigality as an excuse to scab is like watching someone drown becasue there is a sign that says no swimming. Once a scab, always a scab.
It will be you and your dad that allows the Upper Class to roll over us, just as they have since the formation of Capitalism. You weren't only scabs, you were enemies of the common man.
calibman, the coal industry would eventually have died anyway, due to people like scargill because of his total unwillingness to accept anybody else's point of view. it's just an unfounded hatred of the tories, even though thatcher laid the groundwork for the strong economy we have today. think about that, friend
Scabs of 84 hang your heads in shame...you didnt have the guts to stand and fight in defense of your jobs then and where did it get you. They shut the pits of Nottingham and the other Midland areas anyway. At least the men who fought for thier jobs can hold thier heads up with pride but you scum will always be tarred with name SCAB

Gordon Brown invited his heroine Thatcher to Downing Street! He Praised her!He called her a conviction politician! Her conviction destroyed the mining industry! To think the mining community Donkeys will still vote Labour!
That 'cause they both serve the same master - the global elite who are planning more terrorist attacks to allow them to usher in their planned One World Government using the United Nations
Here's an interesting one from a man who declared what Scargil and miners were doing was "undemocratic!"
Kevin Maguire
Monday March 1, 2004
The Guardian
The leaders of the strike-breaking Union of Democratic Mineworkers Neil Greatrex and Michael Stevens, which represents just 1,431 members, were criticised last night after it emerged that they receive pay and benefits of more than £150,000 each.
Yes and the steel workers who the miners had backed in their strike, which I believe was in 81 didn't support them and lets not forget that traitor Joe Gormley who was working for Mi5! not to mention the non backing by the TUC!
The issue is Mr still missing link/point is that I still live in an ex mining community and have done OK, but I am surrounded by the legacy of Thatcher decimating the coal industry in such a ruthless manner.
What you fail to comprehend is that the pit closures were a political not economical decision. Eg Tower colliery Hirwaun closed by British Coal as non profitable, reopened by a workers co-operative and has made a profit every year since.
selkent: This was more than a strike, it was a war. The state set out to smash working class solidarity and it has to be said, they won. Now look at the state of britain. Thatcher was an evil bitch and Blair carried on her work in the name of socialism. Will Brown do any better? I'm not getting my hopes up.
selkent, truth will out one day,the state massacred during 84/85. you have no idea so just FUCK OFF long story cunt seek the real truth dont be be a fool all your life
Selkent: I knew people on both sides of the conflict (believe me that was a difficult time) I empathised with both sides, much to the dismay of some friends' but i do think it was a shameful period of British history that is brushed aside at the moment, but what will the history books be sayin in 100 years time ?
Here's something that didn't make the news: striking miners at Daw Mill pit had a whip-round and offered sincere condolences when they heard that PC Yvonne Fletcher had been murdered outside the Libyan Embassy - oddly, there were plenty of news stories about fights, etc. Media bias? What's that?
i don't give a fuck about the miners. People forget that they didn't have to strike, it was just the sheep mentality of an industry populated by people too dumb to do anything else. They didn't have to obey Scargill, who I would very gladly beat to death with a nail studded police truncheon. Socialist fuckwit.
Selkent: i get the impression you don't give a fuck about anybody, that's your choice but don't class people as too dumb to do anything else! What do you do by the way? You seem to miss the point, that the miners were strikin' for somethin more than a 'pay rise'. It seems to me that YOU have the 'sheep mentality' You obviously followed the news broadcasts at the time (or have you just read up about it?) I am no supporter of Scargill but where is British industry now?
Evil triumphed over good here - the IRA nearly did everyone a favour in Brighton next year, pity she wasn't having a shie at the time...anyway not long left for the old hag.
Police should have dragged every one of them to the cells for a good kicking. why should the rest of the taxpayers prop up a dead industry like the mines. Thatcher was a hero had more balls than anyone to stand up to petty unions officials wanting nothing but what they can shove on there pockets. Blair and his cronies are much worse.
hawl ya bass why dont you try and live on next to no money for 1 year. as a son of a miner who was threatend of arrest at 3yo yes 3 for kicking a police officer accidently i say you should try that if not go back to your million doller estaes if not shut the fuck up
ok first of all i assume that your response was in English only it look like it was typed by a 7 year old with a speech impedimant. if u were threatened with arrest at 3 then you should have been removed to the care of someone more responsible than your parents allowing u near an unruly mob of miners. and as for Million Dollar estates LOL i was brought up in an area of yorkshire that is classed as being in the bottom 1% for economic growth
"Unruly Mob Of Miners" is 100% justified... why should they be allowed to continue getting a govt subsidy for a failing industry a subsidy paid for by every other tax payer in the country ? take a look at the mining communities now you'll see what a state they are on due to the fact most of the miners spent the redudancy money in the pub instead of creating new enterprises and start a new life.... they couldnt look forward as they were too busy looking back.
Why would they want to become Middle Class? unless of course they were ashamed of being working class. Lazy bastards would rather sit on the dole. If someone says "no work in this area" then walk to another area walk wherever you can to find work . The state does not owe anyone a living. the Miners should feel ashamed for putting the families through nearly a year of hardship. bunch of losers every single one of them. Except those "Scabs" who knew how to look after a family. WORKING
You don't seem to understand what a mining community is. But being a Thatcheritte you can't really understand what society is, let along become part of any kind of community.
My great grandfather was a Welsh miner who WALKED to South Yorkshire to find work so don't tell me i now nothing of mining communitiy. It still stands these bunch of losers would rather make everyone pay more tax to keep open a few mines... what part of that don't you quite understand ?? the "Scabs" were real working men.
Hey! Labour have Kept Thatchers anti trade union Legisation! I didn't like Thatcher or her government! But have things really changed with NEW Labour! The gap between rich and poor increasing! Hospital dept closures! N.H.S dentists leaving ! Post Offices closing! Manufacturing industry still dying ! Private fiance initiative (P.F.I) fat cats fleecing the N.H.S and taxpayer ! Billions to be spent on a new nuclear deterrent, ID cards costing more billions! Iraq! ect
yep sad times. i was only young but remember the miners strike. and when you look back on it as an adult you realise just how awfully they were treated and just how far towards a police state we had slid. and the irony is now, in these days of energy instability, we have shut practically all our mines and are relying on imported gas instead! farce. cheers go to thatcher for that.
We had scene's like that in the small village in South Wales I live in, I was 13 then and remember it vividly, forty police officers (from the Met / Army) for one scab.
The police officers usually wore no identifying numbers on their uniforms. They also used to wave their pay slips at local children and women, which is why so many still have no respect in these parts for the police.
Thanks for the comment mate. I served my time on costruction sites in the north, and the guys told me about the mass collections they used to have, just to feed the families of the striking miners!

Lets get one thing right.
By working my dad wasn't in favour of Thatcher and wasn't turning his back on anyone.
The fact is Thatcher wanted to close 30 pits, yes maybe she would have closed more with or without a strike.
Scargill called for an illegal strike, if it had been done fair and square, who knows, many pits still might be here.
I'm from a mining village and it hurts to see our pit shut.
The forming of the UDM shows alot were not in favour of striking.

selkent: This was more than a strike, it was a war. The state set out to smash working class solidarity and it has to be said, they won. Now look at the state of britain. Thatcher was an evil bitch and Blair carried on her work in the name of socialism. Will Brown do any better? I'm not getting my hopes up.

Media bias? What's that?

mining is not a dead industry, there is enough coal in GB to keep us going for 200+ years

i don't give a fuck about the miners. People forget that they didn't have to strike, it was just the sheep mentality of an industry populated by people too dumb to do anything else. They didn't have to obey Scargill, who I would very gladly beat to death with a nail studded police truncheon. Socialist fuckwit.
selkent 4 years ago
Selkent: i get the impression you don't give a fuck about anybody, that's your choice but don't class people as too dumb to do anything else! What do you do by the way? You seem to miss the point, that the miners were strikin' for somethin more than a 'pay rise'. It seems to me that YOU have the 'sheep mentality' You obviously followed the news broadcasts at the time (or have you just read up about it?) I am no supporter of Scargill but where is British industry now?
fionalogan 4 years ago
Erm.....
You do know what a trade union is, right?
It was their dissuasion, it they hadn't wanted to there would have been no Strike.

StolenMonkey 5 years ago
FUCKER! Go stick your head were the sun don't shine you middle class Yuppie! Bet you wouldn't be saying that if YOU were form a mining community!
Antiheroisbest 5 years ago
hawl ya bass why dont you try and live on next to no money for 1 year. as a son of a miner who was threatend of arrest at 3yo yes 3 for kicking a police officer accidently i say you should try that if not go back to your million doller estaes if not shut the fuck up
balfarg1982 4 years ago
ok first of all i assume that your response was in English only it look like it was typed by a 7 year old with a speech impedimant. if u were threatened with arrest at 3 then you should have been removed to the care of someone more responsible than your parents allowing u near an unruly mob of miners. and as for Million Dollar estates LOL i was brought up in an area of yorkshire that is classed as being in the bottom 1% for economic growth
StolenMonkey 4 years ago
"Unruly mob of Miners"
Didn't you read the post properly, his family where miners, he was part of that community
Antiheroisbest 4 years ago
"Unruly Mob Of Miners" is 100% justified... why should they be allowed to continue getting a govt subsidy for a failing industry a subsidy paid for by every other tax payer in the country ? take a look at the mining communities now you'll see what a state they are on due to the fact most of the miners spent the redudancy money in the pub instead of creating new enterprises and start a new life.... they couldnt look forward as they were too busy looking back.
StolenMonkey 4 years ago
Looking forward to what? Unemployment?
"creating new enterprises and start a new life"
Angry they didn't become middle class?
Antiheroisbest 4 years ago
Why would they want to become Middle Class? unless of course they were ashamed of being working class. Lazy bastards would rather sit on the dole. If someone says "no work in this area" then walk to another area walk wherever you can to find work . The state does not owe anyone a living. the Miners should feel ashamed for putting the families through nearly a year of hardship. bunch of losers every single one of them. Except those "Scabs" who knew how to look after a family. WORKING
StillMissingLink 4 years ago
You don't seem to understand what a mining community is. But being a Thatcheritte you can't really understand what society is, let along become part of any kind of community.
Antiheroisbest 4 years ago

Iraq! ect

yep sad times. i was only young but remember the miners strike. and when you look back on it as an adult you realise just how awfully they were treated and just how far towards a police state we had slid. and the irony is now, in these days of energy instability, we have shut practically all our mines and are relying on imported gas instead! farce. cheers go to thatcher for that.

great song...sad to see this is the only reference to the mighty TMTCH i can find !!
scodee 5 years ago
We had scene's like that in the small village in South Wales I live in, I was 13 then and remember it vividly, forty police officers (from the Met / Army) for one scab.
The police officers usually wore no identifying numbers on their uniforms. They also used to wave their pay slips at local children and women, which is why so many still have no respect in these parts for the police.
Good video and song
