Dude, I live in Tennessee, and I know people who play this. In fact, I have a few friends who introduced it to me today, and I begin my first match this Sunday.

The reason I mention Tennessee, is because 75 percent of the population are wanna-be rednecks, red necks, and annoying pot smoking, loud mouthed, rap loving douchebags.

Yeah I don't know what people's problems are, this game has very simple concept and that concept is too just tag you're opponents with padded swords just like the point in football is to tackle you're opponent to the ground rather than tagging them with a sword.

I'm actually going to find out about these guy's and help then with their sport and make it better.

@Dimitri0809 there is no need to help them make the sport better. there are already things in place that take the game, and make modifications every few years. the system currently being played is 7.6, and in a few years they will be releasing 8.0. this game has been around since 1982 or '83. started with a guy who just wanted to make some money. now, the game is world wide. it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

All you need to know to fight with a weapon is how to manipulate distance and timing to your advantage. If you get that down you don't even need to block.

Fast isn't always better, but it is important to be explosive when you launch an attack. Changing the pace of the fight can really throw your opponent off guard.

That may be true in the real world, but in Amtgard, speed is 100% the deciding factor. Fast blocks are huge, and a quick smack to the arm is as damning as any other shot. In Amtgard, charging an opponent is a stupid and easy way to get yourself 'killed'. That Shield and Shortsword user there? If he tried to charge the polearm, he'd be toast.

With good distance manipulation, everything seems faster. Trust me I've learned multiple styles of sword fighting and a constant for each one is distance is key as well as being ready at all times. The difference between winning and losing is being ready when it's time to act. It's actually a lot harder than it sounds, and I don't know if anyone can really master it.

When did I say charging in was a good strat? It can be, not always.

I do, and here's why. The biggest threat to a pole is a fast little bugger rushing you. No leg, no rush. Of course it helps if you don't loose an arm.

Actually, if you set the butt of your polearm in the crook between your hip and thigh, then flex your arms and hold that polearm as tight as possible, 9 times out of ten they'll just kill themselves running on to it

Amtgard weapons are much safer and lighter, which makes the fights much faster and more intense.

But is it realistic? Have you ever used a real sword? I prefer the european version, we use latex. K, you are NOT allowed to hit heads with it (although it happens) and especially after a weekend as a fighting NPC you are covered with bruises but hey, that is half the fun. No real injuries from the weapons although they look much better. Faster fights are not "realistic" but I can understand that it looks "cooler" for some people who are not into some realistic roleplaying.

Latex also costs 20x what ditch sticks cost, and they seldom last as long. Some of our weapons are laminated like latex, but one of the requirements are that tips cannot be thinner than 2.25 inches. So they do look a little less realistic.

2.25 inches, that is over 5 centimeters. Wow. OK. That explains the look. In another video somebody told me that your "swords" are also bloody cheap, only about 10-15 Dollars? My last latex larp sword was 80 Euros (something above 100 Dollars). K. You won concerning cost effectiveness :D

Well the omniblade/round blade look is because the swords currently are made out of Pool Noodle and golf club shafts. As it is the easiest way to construct a sword.

There are Flatblades out there that do look realistic though.
