Ok this game loos cool. I love stealth games and elder scrolls. I always play stelth in elder scrolls, This game looks bad ass but I read somewhere it doesnt run good on the xbox 360. Is this true. I heard the torches go through walls and stuff. Please someone confirm for me. Thanks
Such fond memories of playing the demo of this game. It is one of the most memorable games. I am thinking of picking it up on Amazon.com or something since the demo runs PERFECTLY for me (even on Windows 7 64x). I think that, imo, it would've have been nice to see Assassin's Creed use many of these mechanics, and such simple things as crouching (especially when on rooftops-I mean come on!). Thief 4 is coming soon let's hope 2012! Dishonored is made by one of the Thief creators btw! Google it!
I liked this game way less than Thief 2 because this is more linear and it is less of a challenge to stealth, you can just kill guards, whereas in thief 2 the point of combat was LAST resort, most missions said you couldn't kill anyone and that made it a fun challenge.
@lumpy1011 To a certain extent, you can travel around the city but it has a loading screen in every district during traveling. You can help factions like the hammerites and the pagans so they can help you, or you can be at war with them but will make the game harder. You can also help your ally faction in battles on the street. You can also get arrested and put in prison if the guard catches you and you need to escape. But the main focus of the game is to follow the main plot.
@80gamer Wrong, it was made by Ion Storm, the people who made Deus Ex, Deus Ex Invisible War and... *Sigh* DaiKatana. But that was made by a different team at Ion Storm.
i always wondered how the sight on the bow worked. seems kinda pointless to me since dont u have to use the bottom of the sight to aim? how would u compensate for range? or do the arrows go on a straight path?
Hey teh2Dgamer, are you playing this on a widescreen TV?. I've tried both PAL and NTSC versions of this & Deus EX IW, yet I still get thin vertical black bars on either side of the picture INSIDE the 4:3 area. It's causing the picture to be squished horizontally, exactly like in your Deus Ex IW video. Not a single one of my other Xbox games exhibit this behavior, either in NTSC or PAL on my PAL TV.
@teh2Dgamer No sorry, I didn't mean those black bars. The actual image of the both Deus Ex and Thief 3 seems to be squashed inside the 4:3 ratio picture. There's thin vertical 1/2 inch lines on either side. You can see it clearly in your DX IW vid. If you look at a spherical object, you'll see it's horizontally squashed. Did you use a different setup for the DX vid?
Is this backwards compatable with the 360? Or better yet, available on the arcade? I remember loving the crap out of the first Thief on the PC but I don't play PC games anymore...
@TakashiMiike17 Thief III does work on the 360. My friend has the game and plays it on his 360. I still use my original Xbox, but he never owned one. Oddly enough Deus Ex: Invisible War is not compatible despite them running on the same engine.
@TakashiMiike17 Well, Invisible War should be easy to run if you have even a fairly new computer. Granted, make sure you download all the patches for it, because I hear the PC version is rather glitchy.
I think this is the only game in the Thief series that was ported to a home console. All the others were PC only. I was lucky enough to track down an Xbox copy of this game recently and I love it!
definitely one of the best games for the xbox.... never could understand why it wasn't more popular seeing as so many people liked the splinter cell series
@n64roo I'm guessing that Splinter Cell is the reason why this game didn't get as much attention as it deserved. Nothing against SC, but most of those uninformed gamers out there would have played this and just seen is as a huge SC rip-off. And in the camera, and control it does mimic SC, but SC took stuff from the Thief series as well.
@teh2Dgamer yes I suppose so, but in the same vain SC could be seen as a metal gear rip off and so on... what made Thief so unique was its medieval type setting... How many military based games were released when Splinter Cell came out? imho wayyyyy too many.... still, this is a good choice for an underrated gem
Believe me or not, splinter cell+assasins creed cant even come close to THIEF's gameplay. it was the orignal masterpiece which started stealth genre in games.
and DEADLY SHADOWS is a classic according to me, more intresting than assasins creed or splinter cell, these game look and feel fake. but Thief doesnt
No offense, this is a good game (and definitely underrated by todays standards) but the original games, which are much more interesting to play, given the amount of things you can do and all from a 1st-person perspective, are most more underrated as they were not heavily played for their time either.
I know, but I don't have a proper screen recorder for the PC. I don't own the original, but I do own Thief II. I just need a way to capture video on my PC.
@hl202 Well I was looking for something free, but I've tried everything. Xfire has a decent one, but it doesn't work for all games out there, and the sound always becomes unsynced.
I love this game! I actually like the Thief series just a little bit better than the Splinter Cell series only because of the steampunk it has and the medieval times that it sets within the franchise alone, but I do love the Splinter Cell series too. The Splinter Cell franchise is more modern set as it is now in real life(sort of). These two franchises of the stealth genre push it to the max! These games are just way to fun to pass up!
I love this game. It's a nice sequel to accompany the first 2 ones. It's pretty hard to top them but deadly shadows does a nice job at keeping to the original quality gameplay. I can't wait for 4. I hope that drunk disgruntled guard makes a return as always.
Heeey... What the taff was that? Come out now you taffing taffer! xD
Thief3 does have it's charms in a different way, the earlier two games in the series were actually much very different in the way you played them, but I think that overall the third game did still manage to conform to the sense of magic and wonder of the earlier ones, if not even bring it to the next level.
As an example in the earlier thief games I was allways really careful. In thief 3 not so much except a few places. Maybe that is just my own doing that I'm not as paranoid anymore. Good vid.
And the makers of AC fully admit they took inspiration from this series. ;-) I hope Thief IV will carry on the tradition of the previous three, but also improve upon what was already established in their immersive gameplay.
Oh my gosh, I love Thief! I own every one so far in the series and I beat each one several times, especially this one with 100% of the loot picked up. I hope Thief 4 is going to be just as good. I have a feeling there's going to be a new character since at the end of the third one Garrett becomes a Keeper
Yup, sure can since ontop of having a blackjack (club) but you also have a dagger and a bow with different types of arrows (from the normal type to elemental kind)
Thief is probably the most underrated series of all-time! Im trying to get more people in to it by posting the intros of the games on my channel and just asking my friends: "hey dude, have you ever played thief?". :D
Weird, I played this on PC awhile back and it was by default in first person. I don't think I'd enjoy the game nearly as much in third person.
Aww bit harsh to Garret, think hes a way better character than Altair could ever be. Always saw Garret as more real and fleshed out.
I should finish Thief 3, never made it to the cradle which was the reason I started playing to begin with. Hope they don't screw up Thief 4, but I threw up in my mouth a lil when I heard they wanted to make it more "modern"
I like Garret better than Altair myself, but that was my way of explaining to people that this isn't a game where you can run through killing the guards at your leisure.
In Assassin's Creed, you really don't have to be stealthy if you don't want to. I've got on huge rampages in that game leaving fifty or so dead bodies lying in the street.
I think its nice to be able to go back and play old games from the past because there are a lot of underrated or overlooked games that have aged well and still very enjoyable to play. Even with the price drops of the ps3 and 360 I still have about 200+ games I'd like to get for the ps2
I just got this game 2 days ago, and it's everything I want in a stealth game. But I believe his name is Garret, not Jared. If it matters to you, anyway. ;)
Ok this game loos cool. I love stealth games and elder scrolls. I always play stelth in elder scrolls, This game looks bad ass but I read somewhere it doesnt run good on the xbox 360. Is this true. I heard the torches go through walls and stuff. Please someone confirm for me. Thanks
