  • Just watched this again, it still makes me chuckle! Which is far, far more than what could be said for many of today's offering (Peter Kay and Frankie Boyle for example, but I'm sorry but I just don't find them two the least bit funny at all).

  • Actually, Phil Cool is very, very good. It is easy to pick holes in a performance that is 25 years old, but it made more sense in its day because the aquaphibian character took Phil's core audience (at that time) back to their childhood.

Most people under 30 now wouldn't have even heard of Stingray, so its not surprising that people like Tungstenkid find it easy to post derogatory comments.

As someone else pointed out, this stuff really should be on DVD!

  • I did a gig with him last week end- he's still as brilliant as he ever was

  • and ah could see the BEAR staff

  • I bumped into Phil Cool in the high st. of my home town Southend-on-Sea 25 years ago, when he was appearing at the Cliffs Pavilion in Westcliff. Even then I was a big fan and naturally said "Hi Phil." I didn't even ask for an autograph as I didn't want to draw too much attention. You know what? He completely ignored me and looked down at the ground. It's one of those moments in your life that you wish you could forget!

  • The one & only

  • where's the jr ewing one that was pretty good too

  • @staygee1 I have that bit with Geoff Capes doing the Paul Simon You can Call me Al song. I'll upload it one day, it's brilliant.

  • His send up of the Paul Simon/Chevy Chase 'You Can Call Me Al' music video was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Would love to find a recording of it.

  • the shapes he could pull with that face made Rowan Atkinson look like a man on a course of botox

  • it is a funny face though

  • How long can you drag out the laughs for with basically one funny face?

  • Hugely talented guy. If guys as good as him doing comedy as good as his, were still on tv, I might actually bother to get a digi box and license again. As it is, tv nowadays just isn't worthy of my attention ;D

  • Saw him with Jasper Carrot at the Oxford Apollo they did a shared show 10-20 on then swap and they did that for 3 brilliant hours I was in agony from laughing at the end. Pure genius If anyone has it please upload his Hans and Lottie hass sketch thats my all time favourite.

  • Amaaaaazing xD

  • ok? i rlly dont get this stuff i guess its kinda funny :P

  • any idea whats hes p to now i loved this back in the day

  • He's still touring , He is at the theatre in litchfield this week

  • hes still doing stand up, i did lighting for him the other day at cirencester

  • lol I bet that's his sex face!

  • Thankyou for posting this. I saw it when it was first shown. The Aquaphibian was one of the best he ever did.

I wonder what happened to Phil? He was major on tv at one time?

  • Remember being at my mates watching the vid a few years back getting stoned... classic

"You guessed it... the bastard stuck"

  • Thanks for this.

  • saw phil cool at Hull Truck

    he was IMMENSE!!!

    totally love this guy

  • Why hasn't he been on TV for many years?

  • @TungstenKid cause he's fucking shite

  • @joydivision808 LOL. Never thought I'd see a Joy Division fan refer to something else as "fucking shite". Is that even allowed?

At least Phil Cool became widely known in the 80's without committing suicide.

  • @andross637 if i had a face like that ugly cunt i would

  • @joydivision808 What are you even talking about, you absolute moron? Then again, I should expect no better from someone who likes Joy Division.

  • @andross637 boring cunt

  • @TungstenKid

he had a nervous breakdown after his last series

  • @TungstenKid people realised he was shit

  • This bloke was really good , but sadly you can only get so far pulling faces.

  • i watched this on bbc 2 wen it was first aired and i pissed myself...must be 20 years ago

  • U NEED TO GET OUT MORE!

  • He's brilliant! But you are entitled to your own opinion, you might like a different kind of comedy.

  • how?? coz you look like one of his faces..lol

  • This guy used to be on TV all the time. Is he still going?

  • not on tv so much now, but i went to see him live the other day and he was brill, then we went to talk to him coz he was signing for us :)

  • Thanks for your rep.

  • We saw Phil last night with Fairport Convention. A bit older, but brilliant! They are touring at the moment, ( 14thFeb09) so I heartily recommend you google Fairport Convention to see where they are. Well, - well,- worth it!

(I'm a fairport fan, but not part of the PR or anthing!)

  • Good to hear hes still going strong. I had his entire TV Show ( two series I think ) on VHS. Cant find them now unfort.

  • While all you guys are paying to see him live, i can see him everyday;) so hahah to you

  • i saw him live last night

  • My uncle used to breakdance with Phil Cool in his front garden.

  • Funniest guy who've ever lived. This "stuck in aquaphibian face" sketch had me in a state where I was laughing so much I couldn't breath. It was almost fatal.

    Kevin

  • Yeah we use to work together as electricians in the good auld late 60's ......smiles mate

  • We used to live right near phil cool and he whould sometimes go to the pub my mum and dad went too. I remember my mum and dad telling me they sort of knew him back then and i didnt believe them so they got his autograph. He was pretty funny yeh.

  • I saw him in concert once - he was much funnier live. We want him back on telly !!!

  • I saw him in concert once - he was much funnier live. We want him back on telly !!!

  • Why isn't he on TV any more? I mean he had quite a few series on BBC2 in the 1980s I remember. He was really quite successful. Better than a lot of the rubbish we get now.

  • Phil is in my home town of Barnsley soon and I have tickets!

    Can't wait..the man is a genius.

  • I cannot help but think "Cristiano Ronaldo" when he does the aquaphibian face haha!

  • awesome tale!!

  • Charles Bronson!!!

  • I'm going to see him live soon.

  • where about? is he on tour?

  • It was at the Richmond Georgian Theatre. And it was 3 Saturday's ago. I don't know if it's a National tour. He's still good.

  • Its a shamehe's not on the box anymore. Used to tape his shows weekly as a kid and watch them over and over. Saw him at the height of his fame and i had tears streaming down my face. I guess now he's off the telly, he's done an Alan Partridge and plays smaller audiences?

  • OMG I actually know this guy :O his son goes t my school''xo

  • by the way you wouldent happen to have a copy of phil doing his impersination of paul daniels, i would love to see that again

  • that was his aquaphibian not a stingray puppet

  • Jus come back from one of his shows, funny guy :D

  • his son joe martin is in my year in my school

  • Ian, is that you first thing in the morning?

Another great sketch - the lead up to that part is good too as he gets prepared to appear on the rising stage ... [:o)

Keep them comming m8 - great stuff - btw some of his jokes may not be understood by more younger folks because they are often about old tv commercials - such as the one with the Volkswagen being dropped from a great height...

    Positive John.

  • Brilliant!!!!

  • Got to see him Phil Cool in Concert with Jasper Carrott back in 2004. He's still as hilarious as ever and looks very healthy. He still looks pretty much the same now as he did at the time of this Video (1987)
