@Xairflyer on some of those catapults if you do that it will unhook itself since the tow hook is facing the rear. Then when you went to hit the release the bungee would shoot away with no plane attached
Hi Bruce, truly a slightly tricky situation. Maybe a stall with simultaneous crosswind would also be possible, or did it go wrong at the transmitter. But the most likely cause is that Barry was wearing no shorts ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May low speed and torque has done this. But why at 1:44 we can see the ailerons and rudder in neutral position - this means the pilot did not attempt to correct the abnormal position? I apologize if I'm wrong.
Are you going to fix this plane? Because I really enjoy watching RC planes crash! I'd really like to watch this plane crash again, but in a different scenario! LOL!
I've never done a bungie launch before but it looked like it was still attached when he went into the turn. Maybe as the bungie let go of the plane less throw was needed because the bungie was not pulling anymore and it was just over controled in the turn. Either way, I hate to see a nice plane die :(
@turkishflight1010 so, bananahobby=good quality? i ordered an a-10 from them and the esc caught fire in mid air, destroying it. i tested the motors and they were drawing over 40A, on a 25A esc that came stock. they make good products, but they praise their bad ones just as strongly as their good ones. you have to know your way around rc before you go to banana.
Oh i feel his pain man, that was the quietest i've heard it at SWMAC after a crash and if that had been me it would of been a lot noisier i can tell you with the odd profanity ;-o
i think out of all the crashes i have seen in all your vids for some reason i just felt bad for that one all that work just to launch and a crash maybe put some sad movie music to it and make people tear up
Sorry to see such a good looking plane bite the dust on the first launch. I am confused why a bungee launch is being used when there apparently is a very nice runway available? Bungee launchers are flaky at best.
Sorry for the nice jet but hey crashes happen to all of us and experimenting is cool! Little bit of glue and epoxy and Barry flies again in no time :-) Keep it up!!!
I love you kiwis you guys are so funny , very sorry about Bruce's new plane but how come bungy ,didnt bruce use landing gear in his first flight that you uplaoded monday ? and by the way congrats on your youtube mile stones a couple of weeks ago glad to be part of it all and keep up the good work
They make both fixed landing gear and retracts for that model. I don't understand why he is using a launch system like that when you have a beautiful long paved runway plus he needed to give full power for the motor before taking off. Those planes are not cheap.
What a shame.....I would have said he was lucky on the first launch to not wreck his model, but it was clear from the first go that the bungee was just not tight enough and didn't have enough power.
I would certainly go along the lines of a dolly to launch something like that, and never a bungee.
Technically the plane is flying when it should't be because it is being dragged into the air, rather then creating it's own lift to get into the air.
@xjet G'day... Well, I'm goanna arse-umeify that the Decision to launch via Bungee & Ramps, when that there Big Runway is adjoining ; involves a Lightweight Design, sans Undercarraige, let alone Retracts for the Dunlop Danglies... Weight thus Slashed, an Undersized Motor would go well, but it Pitched Up & Unhooked just prior to VMC re Full Power Torquies, at the Instant. Separate the Existing Bungee-Anchor & Ramp, by 10-20 more feet..?
Looking at this video & the previous one I don't think this guy know what he's doing. Seems like a real nice looking plane to destroy it in that way. If he has landing gears! why not using them? Go figure. Perhaps he destroy them in the previous flight.
It's that dodgy moment between flying and not flying and a puff of a x-wind and barley enough airspeed for the alierons to be effective. a gyro may have saved it possibly... bruce, something to look into on RCmodel reviews. how well does a gyro help out when flying close to stall speed... (I have one on my floater and find it helps when it's being battered by the wind from all directions.)
@oysterlicker Yeah, the full throttle motor combined with insufficient airflow over the wings might have caused a torque roll to the right. Happens a lot on my smaller foamy 70mm EDF when launched off the bungee.
nice, you guys sure are the peanut gallery Poor barry!! would love to see him say !
Ehhh? when you said hes deaf!!
that was funny in one of your other vids!.
I really don't have time for people snickering like i think they were in the background?, when someone loose's a plane like that...was it that beast thats always hanging out at the field with you guys?
Im not sure its a Man or Woman to tell you the truth!
and no its not barry or ron...you know who im talking about! lol
sorry Bruce but your friend is a fool he should of gave a full throttle and then release the jet or lunch it from the ground while landing gear attached, this is an easy jet to fly, but as some one said "they have more money than the skills to fly"
@resurrectd he did give full throttle genius. full throttle + low airspeed= torque roll and crash. he needs a bigger bungee. go away before i turn off the internet.
