Hit the nail on the head could be their worst song ever. Than said, enjoyed the show. They still rock!

Love this line up. Great song. Usual cheesey 80's video ha ha. When they all took their helmets off at the end...who was the most disappointed do you think?? Girls or Boys?....c'mon lads you could have got some better talent than that for the video, did they use the wives or something?
great 80's song...great vocals...cannot believe that a better version(lots of hiss) of it is not on youtube if not a few times over. Thanks for posting
Good song, bad video. ;) Bought the album from the discount rack for just this song, and found that at least half the tracks on the album totally rocked. Bob Daisely and Lee Kerslake? Only one of the greatest rhythm sections in metal history! Definitely underrated.
Looks like Ron Pearlman on vocals. :) I love this lineup. What happened to Goalby? He did 3 albums w. Uriah Heep then slipped off the surface of the Earth it seems.
never saw the vid before, but i got this "cassette tape" when it 1st came out and must of played this song a 100 x's that week on a road trip in my '77 Grand Prix with the t-tops off. i now have the cd and played it for some friends who had never heard it, but also liked it.
Very cool tune. It's great to see Lee & Bob given some "air time" during life after Ozzy,... and how about that Mick Box, I swear that man must have one of those 'Portraits of Dorian Grey' at his home,... he never changes! Funny this though, I don't recall ever seeing this video back in the day, and I pretty much didn't go to school all through 82 when we started getting MTV on our cable,... maybe it was only released in the European markets,... anyone know?
@swinevomit666 Oh HELL YEAH!!! They used to play Kiss live circa Space Ace and Eric Carr often. When Ace's guitar pickup started to smoke... to me it was the coolest thing as a kid. @HuntsAnnexStudios I live in Seattle Washington and do remember seeing this video on MTV in the early '80s. Too bad there aren't anymore Uriah Heep-type rockers TODAY!
I Totally agree with you BADFLYINGV69. Abominog belongs to the rare group of albums that dinnae contain a single bad song-definately top 10 albums ever made
Listened to this the other day was was thinking the same thing. Feckin love this album. Looked through my old stuff and have a great old Abominog tshirt which I am wearing again.
Great song from an awesome album! There is not one bad song on Abominog, even if almost half are covers. Pete has a great strong voice. Too bad the video is lame.
As a prog-metal keyboardist back in the day, This album represented an amazing synthesis of melodic, yet really hard, rock that preceded some of the goth, like Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Evanescence and Scandinavian dark metal like Dimmu Borgir...Abominog will always hold a special place in my heart and John Sinclair was AMAZING, both studio-wise and live...I saw Heep many times and, though Ken Hensley will be remembered by the public, Sinclair will be remembered by the musicians!
LOL . . at 3:50 , . . that always cracked me up when I first saw this video back in 1980 whatever, . . when he sings the falsetto part and his face doesn't change.
No Lee Kerslake was the original Drummer for Blizzard of Oz, as well as Bob Daisley was the bass player for Blizzard of Oz. But Tommy Aldridge, Rudy Sarzo and Don Airey toured with he and Randy Rhodes. As I understand it Ozzy and/or Sharon fired them. I think you the one full of............ That's all I gotta say!
I wonder how much was spent producing this UH video. Lets do a run down:
Rent Harleys for an hour: $300
Dress band in black leather: $200
Hire hookers for afternoon as extras: $100
Find abandoned airplane hanger: $0
Camera/Editing/Production Etc :$1000
I love the way the director of this video at about 2:45 creates suspense while making a dramatic and artistic statement about how every man needs his female counterpart in life...afterall, thats just the way that it is!
you should add in the priceless part. I was thinking they were their girlfriends, in which case, it would have been free, or they may alternativeley wanted to charge more to be in such a funky video, of course back in the 80's this was state of the art.
The semblance to Rainbow is natural; I'm a Heep lover, but I freely acknowledge they are a shameless copy of Deep Purple: listen to In Rock and you'll know!

actually the singer was in Rainbow for about 2 days, prior to Graham Bonnet. Ironically Bonnett also recorded a version of this song. Great song! Paul Bliss, now of The Moody Blues.
uriah heep VS a group of horny biker chicks.. this SATURDAY! i finally found this work, i'm happy, shame the vid is kinda... too stupid like the rest of 80s vids... not complaining, i'm not complaining this is too good for words! :D
Long ago on MTV I saw a ABOMINOG Video clip I was Sooooo Happy Heep had a chance to meet the MTV crowd. But these awesome players never got the props they richly deserve. Long Live HEEP!!
The reason why Uriah Heep used that creature on the album cover was to try and get the attention of the media. And, they did just that, but all to well, because pressure mounted and they were told that they would have to come up with a new album cover and replace the one with the creature. So... that is exactly what they did, they replaced it. But... they got more than they bargined for, with the creature on the cover. They never thought, it would lead them, to having to replace the album cover.
My buddies and I had the cass. tape back in the day. This is the first time that I have seen the video ever. It is awesome. The album covers are always a topic of conversation. ROCK ON U. HEEP....
From what I can see, with the creature on the album cover, it's like they used the outline of the lead singers eyes (area) and morphed it with the creature, then they could tweek the color of they eyes as they wished.
This is best the song Uriah Heep ever did. I saw them twice for there abominog tour. They came to town, played a concert and like two months later, they came back and did another. That tour, was the strongest tour they ever had because of this one song.
Unfortunately yet another fantastic tune that somehow eludes being played on classic rock stations. The first time I heard this tune I knew it was a hit.
Wow...i never knew this video even existed! I listen to it on my MP3 all the time. This belongs up there with TOUCH "don't you know what love is", and 707 "I could be good for you". True classics...thanks for the post!
You gotta be kidding me! This is one of the best rock songs EVER!!! And there is Ozzy's songwriter playing bass, Bob Daisley. A friend that auditioned for Ozzy after Randy died said that Uriah Heep actually recorded the first two Ozzy albums, minus the guitarist. Ozzy would be at the pub while Goably
I got it from a friend that auditioned from Ozzy and Daisley and Kerslake were there for the audition, and they mentioned how at the time, Goalby was doing the vocals so Ozzy would get a grip on the melodies.
Given that Kerslake and Daisely were both in Ozzy and Uriah Heep, it is possible, I suppose.
Abominog was made after the first 2 Ozzy albums. There is plenty of tales of how Lee Kerslake would do the vocal melodies for the Ozzy songs, during those sessions because Ozzy was passed out somewhere. Nothing to do with Goalby. By the time this line up of Heep was together the first 2 Ozzy albums were already out. There are a few tracks that may have passed from Heep to Ozzy or vice versa, in demo form [see Fire In The Sky]
I'll never forget the first time I seen this video. I was in the Air Force stationed at Keeseler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Ms. A group of us wandered down to Mobile, Al and dropped into a local bar. I'll never forget when we walked in they had a TV playing this song and the rest is history. Made a lasting impression. Those folks in the bar were cool by the way
Well... I have to say that this is the best song that Uriah Heep ever created. I had the pleasure of seeing them twice while living in New Orleans, Lousiana and they were totally awesome. I am also a musician. I used to play rock and metal in a band back in the day, I still do sometimes. I mainly play new age sounding music. I have two music profiles on myspace, one with my new age music and one showing my rock skills. myspace dot com(backslash)aorphia and myspace dot com (backslash)hexomagic
Frankly and with all due respect to there wonderful creativity, for such songs as The Wizard and the others they had, The Way That It Is was the one that placed them in the spotlight in such a strong way, that... not only did that song get them massive air time on MTV, but it made for one of the most awesome tours by Uriah Heep and why is this? Because... That's The Way That It Is!
Great to find this awesome song on 'YouTube'! Always LOVED this song, and 'Abominog'. Brings back memories. This song's got great structure through and through... one of the best hard rock songs of the 80's!!!
Does anybody recognize the rythym section of this lineup? Bob Daisley on bass guitar, and Lee Kerslake on drums (both musicians are original members of Ozzy Osbourne's "Blizzard Of Ozz" lineup.
This album made me switch from rock fan to rock writer! Being a keyboard player, hearing John Sinclair's mastery made me realize there was a place for sophisticated synths in hard rock. Then I heard Gregg Giuffria (who pioneered that with Angel in the 70's) and Jens Johansson (Yngwie), and my destiny was cast!
Yes brother... John Sinclair' playing in Abominog, Head First and Equator is spectacular. Check him out with Gary Farr's Lion (out of print album, let alone CD).
Awesome! I'd love to be a rock writer too. My dreams of being a rock singer never came to fruition, sadly. But I'm a HUGE fan and I'd love to write about it!
Thanks for posting this. It was the first video I ever saw on MTV, back in 1982. I remember the cable guy switching on the box, and this came on. Those cycles looked great in glorious videotape! I got to see this lineup the next year when they opened for Def Leppard in Seattle. They were excellent.
Does anybody remember the album cover of "Abominog",the album that this song came from? I still have a copy in good to excellent shape. The religious TV stations in the 80's had a field day on it,ripping it to shreds (verbally that is! What a bunch of uptight 8-Balls!
Great tribute to a great band! Many of their fans may have thought "Oh no, Uriah's going pop with this" but I love it when great veteran bands put out a great song full of hooks and still remain true to who they are! By the way, I didn't know that Lee Kerslake was such a hot chubby cutie back then! WOOF!
I think they could use a better plot for the video. This is more appropiate for a band like Motorhead. This is a love song for Christ sake. I like this song but not the video
100% agreed. I remember the song back in 1981, of course, but had never seen the vid till now. I had heard it was way goofy, and it sure was! A sci-fi love theme would have fit both the song's theme & sound. Oh well, still a great song!
I do agree with you that this is more of an American sounding rock but I still consider it being a great song, it almost reminds me of the Joe Lynn Turner era of Rainbow but I take that as a good thing.
They were sounding too American by that time and there was something missing (er... Hensley) but they were still good! I like "Abominog" but I like "Head First" even more! You may not know it, but many of the songs in these 2 albums were covers. Anyway, this video clip is great fun to watch and one of the very few Uriah Heep have made!
Great! Loved these guys back in the day, and love 'em now, Their tunes are still favorites and often played at the motorcycle events I attend. Heep never gets old.
Awesome video! I haven't seen this before but this was the video who put Uriah heep back in the map in the States. This song is one of the Heep's best and Abominog is the best Heavy Metal record of the 80s. Goalby rules!
This video is the definition of "Video killed the radio star". Talk about a face for radio!

Acute observation my friend. First of all define UH for our unassuming friends.
Secondly, I'm betting that those choppers belonged to them, not to mention the black leather attire.
The women were more than likely girlfriends or significant others of the Heep. If not, who gives a shit?
No opinion on the airplane hanger, even though I was a flyboy.
Likewise on your estimation of the production costs. My bet, is that you're no where in the ballpark.
No offense my French friend.

VoodooChildsReturn 4 years ago
Would sing the melodies and then Ozzy would come in and rerecord them in Kayorke style.
VoodooChildsReturn 4 years ago
Uriah heep recorded Ozzy albums? where the hell did you get that?
Heepster69 2 years ago
I got it from a friend that auditioned from Ozzy and Daisley and Kerslake were there for the audition, and they mentioned how at the time, Goalby was doing the vocals so Ozzy would get a grip on the melodies.
Given that Kerslake and Daisely were both in Ozzy and Uriah Heep, it is possible, I suppose.
VoodooChildsReturn 2 years ago
Abominog was made after the first 2 Ozzy albums. There is plenty of tales of how Lee Kerslake would do the vocal melodies for the Ozzy songs, during those sessions because Ozzy was passed out somewhere. Nothing to do with Goalby. By the time this line up of Heep was together the first 2 Ozzy albums were already out. There are a few tracks that may have passed from Heep to Ozzy or vice versa, in demo form [see Fire In The Sky]
Heepster69 2 years ago 3
OK, you mean the Heep members recorded them post Randy era? that would be weird. Anyone got tape?

I'll never forget the first time I seen this video. I was in the Air Force stationed at Keeseler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Ms. A group of us wandered down to Mobile, Al and dropped into a local bar. I'll never forget when we walked in they had a TV playing this song and the rest is history. Made a lasting impression. Those folks in the bar were cool by the way

Why they throw out this singer?

I read that something happened and he lost his voice. What a shame.

Awesome song. I bought this album way back because of the Ozzy connection rhythm section.

This song is so great that I had to upload it myself.

What a bunch of uptight 8-Balls!

yes i wanted to get a tattoo of the cover.but gave the album cover to a artist

Great tribute to a great band! Many of their fans may have thought "Oh no, Uriah's going pop with this" but I love it when great veteran bands put out a great song full of hooks and still remain true to who they are! By the way, I didn't know that Lee Kerslake was such a hot chubby cutie back then! WOOF!

I think they could use a better plot for the video. This is more appropiate for a band like Motorhead. This is a love song for Christ sake. I like this song but not the video
sudameriquen 5 years ago
100% agreed. I remember the song back in 1981, of course, but had never seen the vid till now. I had heard it was way goofy, and it sure was! A sci-fi love theme would have fit both the song's theme & sound. Oh well, still a great song!
BobCubTAC 5 years ago
This could be a video plot for a Motorhead song. Uriah Heep was suppossed to be hard rock. This is a love song for Christ sake. Too bad
sudameriquen 5 years ago
I do agree with you that this is more of an American sounding rock but I still consider it being a great song, it almost reminds me of the Joe Lynn Turner era of Rainbow but I take that as a good thing.
Doobie1975 5 years ago
I agree. I love Joe Lynn Turner's voice too!

Ah...this is nothing like Byron's or Lawton's era.
I agree with GreekPicker...they realy sounded too american at that time.
Demons and wizards, magicians birthday, fallen angel, firefly, salisbury will always be my favorite.
But this song is ok too.

So Jana, you like Fallen Angel, eh? I adore Fallen Angel! Love Or Nothing, Come Back To Me, I'm Alive, Falling In Love... Such a fantastic album!!!

Greetings greekpicker :D
Yess...fallen angel is one of my favorites! :D
Fallen angel, love or nothing, falling in love...are just great songs! :D

This is a good one, prob the best heep line up IMHO.
Wish they would come to the states just one more time!

This is a good video by Uriah Heep, I wish that they were huge in the 80's like they were in the early 70's
Doobie1975 5 years ago
Awesome video! I haven't seen this before but this was the video who put Uriah heep back in the map in the States. This song is one of the Heep's best and Abominog is the best Heavy Metal record of the 80s. Goalby rules!
