  • M5's are quick and I do love them but everyone of them I've come across especially the V8 M5's has been in my G8 GT's rear view. The M5 is was the G8(Holden Commodore) was designed to compete with...tool bags

  • @deezomaxima I never said it wasn't a beast on the top end, I said the M5 is geared for that and no G8 GT or GXP is gonna take a M5 on the top end. I passed on a 750 to get my SRT8, wanted a ZO6, but I have a family and needed the room, but the C7 has a spot reserved in my garage as soon as they go on sale. People buy what they like and I'm glad your happy with your purchase as I am as well, I just wish you were in Atlanta so I can really see what your G8 is all about:)

  • @jcsrt8 Well all I know is that I wouldn't turn down a M5 challenge if someone wanted to go at it just like the OP. I was just in ATL but I had my 07 Durango Limited HEMI since I have a family as well. So as you can see, I'm not a GM fanboy because I own a Dodge as well. :-) but it would be good race either way if I brought my G8 down there sometime. My wife and kids have friends there so I'll be down there again. Just don't know if the G8 will make it with me. The truck has the entertainment.

  • @deezomaxima I know you wouldnt turn down a race and you shouldnt, i raced one from 70-170mph and he got me by 2 cars, these things are fast, but not quick because there too heavy, but once they get going there gone. I have an 07 Jeep Commander to haul around the family and the SRT8 is just a weekend car, only driven twice a month or so. Dont see to many G8's on the road here, i had one guy pushing me to race really bad one day in a red one, but i had the kids in the car and thats a no no.

  • I'm not saying that your car isn't fast, but a 5 second race does not prove much. Take it to the highway and you will find out who is faster.

Check out the other videos. A freeway race would have been good back then. Now as much as I like m5's, They dont have a chance. :)

  • @brooksystyle Hey I like the M5s, but smoke a g8? lol, not with the simple bolt ons my car had at this time of video. A properly tuned, intake, long tube headered and cat back G8 GT will take a stock M5. Thats pretty impressive if you ask me. And Still have well over $60k LESS into the car than the M5 owner does with his car STOCK. Now my G8 has a blower on it. I encourage all doubting M5 owners to come play :)

  • @chadoo951 Stock M5... 4.1s 0-60, 12.4 @ 114.8mph, 205 mph with limiter off. A G8 GT will run what, a 13.4 stock, with basic bolt ons, 13 dead, maybe a high 12, lucky to do ~108 mph crossing the line. A G8 GT needs much more serious work (cam etc) to even keep up with an E60 M5, let alone take one.

  • @deezomaxima It needs serious work to catch an M5. Once you're talking about doing cams and whatnot, its not simply bolt-ons anymore. You're telling me to get educated? Funny, where I am from (and the G8 GT is exported from) I've never seen a Commodore SS with mild mods keep up with something like an M5, and they (M5s) seem to have no problems dispatching its LS3 and LS7 powered HSV bretheren.

  • @Steffo290 So just because you never seen a G8 GT (aka Commodore SS), it means that you're right? The 2008 M5 gets from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds stock. It does the 1/4 in about 12.8. So you're going to tell us all, the G8 will need major engine work to achieve beating that time? I think not dude. There are guys with simple mods getting just under those numbers in the 1/4 and I know of one person getting to 60 in 4.3 seconds (yes in a GT).

    Get educated.

Nice one. C&D Feb 06, M5... 0-60 in 4.2s, 1/4 in 12.5 @ 118mph. You're not trapping nearly 120 mph in a Commodore SS/G8 GT with basic bolt ons.

  • @Steffo290 I didn't pull shit out my ass. Depending on the conditions which the car was tested in produced the numbers given. Don't be an idiot. If the M5 was being tested out in the freakin heat of the desert, the car would do 0-60 in 7 seconds. So Car & Driver got their numbers and Inside lIne got there's. What I'm proving here is that you're wrong when you say a GT will need serious engine work in order to run to 60 and do the 1/4 to match the M5. Pure bullshit.

Look at some basic facts, the G8 is over 100hp down on the M5 and its 200lbs heavier. So you're telling me its going to gain the 138hp its down on the M5, PLUS another 20-30hp on top to take care of the power/weight difference from an intake and a dyno tune? Please. You talk about pure bullshit, yet you're the one sprouting it.

  • @deezomaxima Ok then, you want me to look at your prescious forums, no worries. 12.84@107.98 with intake, full exhaust and ported intake manifold. 13.2@104.5 with intake & tune. 12.05@113 with cam, modified cyl head, intake, headers, cat, cat-back & dyno tune. Gee, that's as fast as an M5, actually still traps worse so in top end probably slower, with what looks like serious work. Found another M5 matcher, almost, 12.38@111 with Magnacharger, supercharged and still 7 mph down but matches ET.

Doesn't it suck when somebody uses information sources you provide against you? The thread was in G8 GT Talk, called 13.00 WTF Are you kidding me. Look at the people's sigs with info about their cars. All the G8 GT's matching the power of the M5 (near 120 trap) are turbo or supercharged or have massive work n/a.

  • @deezomaxima I just proved to you that they do. You're getting upset now that you're wrong so you're calling me names. Trap speed is the true indicator of power/speed. You can't compare the ET of a magazine time to someone at the strip because the timing equipment used is different and the strip is prepped for drag racing, magazines don't use a drag strip to record their times.

  • @deezomaxima Nobody with a G8 is matching M5 performance with just an intake and tune. If it was that easy, HSV would not have bothered to engineer the LS7 into the Commodore (look up HSV W427) as their actual M5 rival. They'd have just done an intake and tune to the Commodore SS, would've cost them a whole lot less.

You've proved that. I've seen videos like "Pontiac G8 - from dealer lot to strip" and even that vid makes you look like an idiot. The car in that vid ran a 12.6 and trapped at 113 mph. So when you say, "You proved to me what they do" You didn't prove shit.

  • @deezomaxima Good work. One car, with nitrous, and that's the end of the argument? Its still slower down the 1/4 than a stock M5. By 5 mph, a tenth off C&D, and 2 tenths off other mags, and they aren't doing it on a prepped strip where they can go faster again. And while I agree, its not major work, that car would ultimately lose in the long run even if it can almost match the 1/4.

I own a G8 GT in Hot White. Which one do you own? What kind of research are you doing to make it faster? Nothing.   • @deezomaxima You think the Commodore handles well? Have you ever driven a big car that does handle well, like the BMW M5 in question? I guess not. And yes, I've driven plenty of them, and the superior HSV models, and the slower 6-cyl models and its predecessors, its not like they're rare or hard to come by here where they're made.

  • @Steffo290 I know the car handles well. I own one. I drive it whenever I feel like taking it out of the garage. Magazines have raved about the handling. I'm 41 years young and I've driven many vehicles from Mercs, Bimmers and Corvettes. The G8 GT handles just as good as the S Class and the 5 Series I've driven if not better.Swap out the suspeinsion to Pedders coilovers and you break 1g on the skidpad.

  • @Steffo290 The handling characteristics of the stock G8 remind me more of the S Class.Soft and stable on the highway and responsive in the corners. I'm not a magazine driver like you. I have driven these cars and no matter how you get your logic, it's false. You're talking to someone who has the car. Even if you read the OP's vid description, he says he let off because of the car in front of him and the M5 did a fly by. No major engine work done to his car. End of Story.

  • @Steffo290 Go to Vararam's website and they will also prove you wrong. A GT with an intake and tune alone will give you M5 numbers in but will not match the trap due to the lower HP. And I say, so what? The car is way cheaper and still runs in M5 territory with an intake and dyno tune. Period.

  • @chadoo951 I strongly disagree with you on that. In a 1/4 maybe because M5's are not drag racing cars and have horrible traction off the line, but once they get rolling its over. Those are light mods that you mention and will bet anything on it that a stock M5 will walk on it easily after the 1/4. Dont know how much you know about M5's or if youve ever really ran one upwards of 170 plus, but those cars are monsters.

M5's are and has always been the best four door high performance car until the 09 CTS-V and we'll see how that stands when the new F10 goes on sale. Im an American Muscle Fanatic, but i give credit where its due and I've been in M5's and for a four door mid size sedan, its kicks a lot of ass.

Everyone is going to continue to outdo each other until cars start flying so I don't see your point in talking about a car that's not on the road yet.   • @deezomaxima Im not or ever was comparing a G8 to a M5 because theres nothing to compare, I said to a CTS-V. The GXP is only a hair faster than a GT and a Firehawk is one we'll probably never see because only a handful were made. If your comparing these cars to M5's for this type of stop light to stop light racing, then yes, but M5's and all other German cars are built for the Autobahn and are geared for the top end, not to see how fast i can get to the next mailbox.

  • @jcsrt8 Performance is to compare dude. Anyone that owns a G8 GT knows it doesn't match a M5 in the bells and whistle department. I passed over a 550 to own a G8 GT and I knew what I was giving up and gaining in the same hand when I passed the check to purchase the car. Firehawks are out there and there are members of G8board with them. And what makes you think the G8 wasn't built to handle the German Autobahn as well? These cars are beasts up top as well.

  • @chadoo951 Got a buddy of mine that has aBMW M5 Dinan Stroker, with new tires and 60 degree temps (like today) we put down 0-60mph in 3.5 and it's topping out at just over 700HP. All N/A, total spent including car and mods, $80k-$90k.

    I'd say that's a fair trade off, as well as the plain and simple fact of the matter is that you can find a V6 or V8 anywhere, but the V10 is TRULY unique. :)

  • @statjr and your point? and it would most likely be s/c since the turbo's tend to cause too many problems on a G8. i still believe with unlimite funds you could achieve more power with a 6.0 or 6.2 than a M5. Beamers are nice, but people pay too much for the name alone.

  • I just bought my g8 tonight. The G8 GT is so under rated by other drivers. The car is simply sick when puching it from within the range of 30 to 60 mph. She simply hauls ass. Can't wait for my worst "worthy" race. Can you list you Mods? I am gonna run the Borla Cat Back system before I do anything else.
