I am Rejoyce Stovall. One of the sisters that did the back ground on the Spirit in the Sky. My sisters and I are Christians. Was then and still is to this day.

Norman did not do this song to dig on Christians. We loved him then and love him today.I don't reply to stories like this,but I could not let this one go by.Having Christian in frout of your name is not going to get us to Heaven.

@cp1422 seems like you wanted to say a lot more than what a bad remix it is. Why do you care if Christians find meaning in this song too? Why does that bother you? Did you think that Norman Greenbaum wrote the song only for Jews? He was inspired by Dolly Parton & Porter wagoner to write the song, Christians, incidentally. Do you think Dolly and Porter were irritated that a non-Christian found inspiration in their music? I can tell you that they were not. Don't be a bigot. Good grief.

@DarkWillUser actually, he didn't say ANYTHING that indicates that he is a bigot. And BTW, Greenbaum said in an interview that he "doesn't believe anything in this song, it was written this way because it worked at the time."

If it is about anything at all, this song is about the expectations of people in that time and how even if you didn't believe in the Christian faith the average person was coerced into at least faking it to save face in the community.

@GothChilde6969 I don't recall calling him a "bigot". I recall asking him a few questions based on my interpretation of his post, and then getting a straight forward response from him for which I was grateful. I also don't recall stating that I thought Greenbaum had any specific beliefs that motivated the song, what I did do was state a *fact* that *he* attested to about what inspired him to write it. Thank you caring enough to take the time to add your own input though. I appreciate it. :)
