Not to start anything but that was a freshwater drum but i know people call them perch in some parts of this country where im from a we say creek not crick, and crappie not croppie.
I guess yall have gaspergou or freshwater drum up there in Indiana too! In Texas they are considered a "rough" fish I have seen them get 20 plus lbs. I know here n Texas bluegills are legal to use for live bait. Most people use them to catch flat-heads and blue cats. Those drums have two white rocks in their fore-head that have a letter stamped on them.
a lot of people say that about rivers but i myself eat them from rivers and streams all the time they taste just as good and sometimes better then lake catfish
well actually if you know what your doing with the drag you dont need heavy line. I use 15 pound test on my big poles for fish 10 lbes and over and 6 pound test on my ultralight for fish 10 lbs and under
Used the trolling motor to get to the sand bar...nice! I've fished that spot many times. It was a lot better when you could just drive back there. Have you ever floated from W-ton to Bloomfield? It's a good way to kill a day and get sun burnt. 2 words...Rock Riffle.
looks like yall got a nice river there ours is so polluted and full of trash the mud in the water tastes better then the fish...hate when people ruin great fishing areas
Hey Tyler, I know they're freshwater drum, but my granpappy(who took me to the river as soon as I was old enough to hold a pole) always called them white perch. So that's what I'll always call them. BTW, every time I ever heard him break wind he said "Perch are Drummin'", LMAO!!!....Troy
yeah i heard them called sheeps head too... but they are fresh water drum.
alot of ppl call em' perch though, and i grew up calling them that til i learned different (just cause thats what i heard them called growing up from ppl not knowing better)
From the Iowa DNR website: "The freshwater drum is an important commercial and sport fish along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Commercial harvest in the Mississippi has been over 300,000 pounds each year in the past decade. The sport fish catch of freshwater drum in the river usually ranks in the top three species." You have probably ate them before and didn't even know you where eating drum!
