I also thought that it looked cool how the boy climbed up the coconut tree very well. Maybe he's been practicing a lot climbing trees and/or he climbs trees always where he has no trouble slipping or sliding down while going up or, maybe as he's climbing up the tree, there's probably some things on the trunk of the tree that he's stepping on and holding onto which is probably making it easy for him to climb up.
I remember thinking how amazing it was that this kid could climb a tree like that--I'm even more impressed now, in my thirties! And he wields a machete--that's one tough kid!
I have no idea what the music is really called, or who wrote it, but when I was about three I made up lyrics to the song. Ever since, in my family, the music has been known as "Cornucopia Hat." (I was three. Logic played no part.)
This one must have had staying power, I remember it very clearly and I was born in 1981. I also remember the steel drum skit too. They used that one often.
I'm amazed they'd use that footage. I can just see some kid climbing up an apple tree, throwing down an apple, and trying to open it by sticking it on a big knife. "But Mom, this kid on Sesame Street did it with a coconut!"
I liked this one, always remembered it from the 70s, reminds me of the Cayes in Belize, but the steel drum vid was great! I knew someone would mention the machete, we're so overprotected in the states, especially kids! lol
wow that kids got some skills... there are so many moments in there that i would have killed or seriously injured myself... and im talking about now, when im 23... if i were his age, i probably would have made it up the tree only to fall on the stake and roll over on to the machete...
I am proud to be from the West Indies(Trinidad) and I must say that this clip brings back awesome memories! Mmm, I could go for some fresh coconut milk with jelly!
Me too, Speeta! Love the steel drum skit. As for this one, let's make a game out of naming all of the perilously dangerous things this child is doing....
I never knew that when coconuts grow on trees that they have leaves growing around them looking like the one at 0:17.

Yeah, nothing compares to the old, classic Sesame Street. Even though it's still on, it's like a whole different show and not for the better.

BTW, Did Joe Rapaso compose this music?

Love this cool music. ^_^

Coconut milk comes from dried coconuts, not the freshly picked, green coconuts shown here. The kid is drinking coconut water, which tastes damn good.
Coconut water from the can just doesn't compare.

Awesome. I keep hearing all about the health benefits of coconut, but the closest I ever came to coconut was the awful sugared stuff in the bag.

Kettle drums and this one bring me back. But I had one of those coconuts and it's not like the coconut that we're used to in the States.

I'm dying to find the one where 2 city kids find a steel oil drum and bring it to a guy from Trinidad who makes a musical steel drum out of it.
