Hearing "Ave Maria" a lot now that it's around the holidays, but no renditions are quite as beautiful as this kid's. I totally agree with wanting to hear what his adult voice sounds like. I only hope it's half as beautiful.
This young man obviously has enormous courage and nerves of titanium. I wonder that the choir director didn't have a back-up soloist ready to step in and take over after the first bar or so? His unchanged voice (when it regains some stability here and there) is really lovely, too bad we didn't get to hear him in the prime of the unchanged voice. Incredibly well done, for a young man in any boy soloist's worst nightmare situation!
maybe he had a cold...OMG this just occured to me. could he be sick (have gotten sick last minute)? otherwise, they would have given the solo to someone else and he wouldn't be so surprised and curse. if he was cracking, this much cracking would be too far in the process...so maybe this was the case.

something funny actually occured with my cousin when he was 11.5- his voice began changing. just previous to this happening he laughed at this guy so hard he nearly wet himself. he was in Oliver and he began losing high notes and was cracking during his songs. Shortly later (when he was like 12.5), he told me that this kid cursed him. I told him its not the kid's fault and he's being ridiculous. And he told me "What do you know? I'm 7 years younger than you and have a deeper voice". Tenor love
i'm thinking his voice was probably fine before he got the solo, otherwise I doubt the choral director would be sadistic enough to give to him. i'm sure he originally was hitting them but now he sounds like he's lost most of them poor kid because this is way out of his tessitura. the kid is a trouper i'll give him that. i guess with puberty came both voice and integrity. i wouldn't have gone through with it. but what do i know? my voice has changed and i can hit those notes (im a rly high tenor)

wow, this is too funny. Me and my buddy are doing a project about the changing voice in our voice pedagogy class and used this vid as an example. Let's just say it got a good response.
Thank God my voice never went like that! Woke up one morning when I was 13 and I had gained 2 octaves at the bottom of my range but kept the all top notes. Week by week my 4 octave range would move down a semitone. Am 25 and can still sing alto, and still hit a bottom D square on the nose.
HAHA...that was hillarious! Yeah, at around one minute he curses to himself really quietly. That must have been embarasing to him, haha...oh well...his pain, our veiwing pleasure.

Gotta give props for not quitting.
It sounds like he is (or used to be-lol) a countertenor.
My advice to all singers out there.
If your voice starts cracking, drop the notes to thirds or fifths.
Freddie Mercury did this when his vocal cords were either messed up from touring or vocal nodules.
