I'm in Engineering college and 90% of us use Windows because we get stuff done, the minority who use Apple in my college always download software onto their MacBooks that allows them to switch from AppleOS to WindowsOS, however this software slows their laptops down. Talk about an EPIC FAIL, you paid $1500 to run Windows either way.

Notice it is a MICROSOFT store, meaning they could sell things like Xboxs' and Zunes, not just the operating system.

Yes they're also selling their own range of 'Signature' PCs, from various PC makers. These PCs will just have Windows and Live Essentials, and NON of the third-party crapware, trials and advertisements which always comes on retail PCs. Doing things this way will IMO make for a much better new PC experience.

Although I'm predominantly a Mac user myself. I think that MS really needed to have it's own stores.

From experience with buying a PC from a big store like Best Buy, Currys, Comet or whatever is just a horrible experience. Those PCs are just filled with third-party crapware. They ften have staff who know more about say washing machines, kettles, gas stoves and TVs than they know about PCs.

The PCs that MS stores will be selling are free from crapware, and will have staff which know about PCs.

Why not borrow some of Apple's ideas? There is no copyrights or patents on how a shop is laid out, or what services are offered.

By doing this Microsoft is ensuring a good consistent PC buying experience. They're selling PCs which are free from crapware for a start.

Sales staff training which concentrates on PCs and Windows exclusively. And not on washing machines, cookers, vacuum cleaners, kettles, toasters, stereos, TVs, or anything else a Best Buy sales-drone has to know about.

From the pictures I've seen, and the small bit of research, this isn't like the Apple store at all. (Thank goodness for that) The one they just opened in the video has different areas. One for gaming, one for windows, one for phones.. etc. They have the windows surface available to try out too! The store is about twice the size of Apple's, in part because they have such a broad range of products. They had to open a store in order to keep competition with Apple, it's not really copying.

As much as I am happy for Microsoft getting into the store idea, this is about the most obvious rip off ( down to the architecture ) of Apple I have seen from Microsoft.

Sadly, as is usual, Microsoft copied the ideas, but not the quality. Apple Stores are stunning and beautiful, usually partly because of the high quality in their building materials.

I like both companies a lot as I have worked for both. But, my heart will always be with Apple as they have style and quality.
