The Italian LADY polite/mannered + enthusiastic (Typical of flattering ITALIANs) called them MYTHical. I doN't think they were MYTHical (or Magnificent, Divine). This particular song is OBVIOUSly mediocre/SUBstandard !
Boozeing , loose, COKEheads = The Rolling Stones were , STIIL are, much better !
Mark was sadly under the impression that Dire Straits would be a democratic division of the members' songs. This is a good song, you can tell, though it would only become a great song were Mark to sing it and play lead guitar, so, yeah, I get it. But it's a shame in their personal lives they don't get together. Probably I'm reading half of my "brother" issues into this anyhow. Thanks.
Mark never ran after fame or lusted after it, fame came chasing Mark.
He's still doing what he did right from the start.
Mark and the record company hardly spent any money on advertising the ablum nor did they give it alot of coverage but only because of Marks songwriting, genious guitar playing and constant touring that the album went on to top the charts in over 8 countries with minimal promotion.
Please know this Mark Knopfler and dire straits are the same thing, there is no difference without Mark there would be no dire straits as all the material and work is Marks. And as for the brothers in arms doc goes, dont belive everything you hear, people there are just jelous,if mark had let everyone come up with differents songs there wouldnt be a uniquie product or that distinctive sound would be lost, have you heard of the saying too many cooks spoil the broth.
Mark Knopfler never lusted after fame, fame came running after him.
If it werent for Marks songs and his guitar playing none of the other guys would be famous including David.
Mark became known when he was nearing his
30's only because he had and has extraordinary talent, and is one of the greatest guitar players of all time not to mention has most unique playing style, compeltely original guitar playing style and technique he developed thru countless hours of work and dedication.
I can't understand why two grown men can't lay down their bullheaded-ness and make up. Down deep you know they care for one another. You don't get that chance forever; one day, you die.
I didn't think this happened very much...but David looks really happy!! Did he write this one? And his voice is very similar to Mark's, not as good though!
i believe Mark yearned for "success" as opposed to "fame". Not the same. How difficult it must have been to live in MK's awesome shadow.

Great DS song. But would absolutely be more appealling with Mark's voice. There something about Mark's voice that captures your heart and soul.

Yes, but see the "Brothers In Arms" interview with David Knopfler.
Not that I don't love them all.. each member of Dire Straits too.

Mark Knopfler was dire straits

I think David's got talent too-- he isn't super-charged like Mark, but perhaps subdued because of Mark's lust for fame early on.

I knew that was Mark Knopfler on guitar the second i heard that intro.
I wish they would re-unite and start playing together again like when it all began for both of them.
Im waiting for that day to see that happen.
One day!
