  • @MrEbm - I had no teaching certification prior to applying to JET and I applied in anticipation of graduating, so i had really JUST graduated when I came to Japan. There is no official preference but I do tend to think that they like to send recent college graduates. That being said I know a handful of older JETs. It could just be that the applying demographic is mostly young.

    Good luck next year! Remember the private company options too.

  • I have applied before to JET but didn't make it :(

    1) Do you hold an ESL or TOFEL Certificate?

    2) How many years have you been out of school? I'm wondering if age is something they screen for....

  • @BokuWA In my region we are able to live in special apartments that are owned by the Prefecture and rented exclusively to publicly employed teaching staff. They aren't free but they're very cheap: between about $150-325 USD depending on the age of the building.
