This version isn't bad, but how much work has been done to her voice? Cause no one sounds remotely like that live. Case in point, Scarlett singing this song live. It is god awful. I tend to judge singers on how they sound live, so by that standard, Scarlett is no singer. Not a great, or even good, one anyway.

This project isnt about her voice, its her giving respect and praise to someone she appreciated.

She doesnt need people to buy the album, shes stinkin rich...this was just a hobby to her.

I, however, did buy the album and thought it was fantastic.

A Tom Waits song is a Tom Waits song. To me, buying an album of Scarlett Johansson singing Tom Waits songs is like going to an art gallery to see Scarlett Johansson painting some Monets. I understand she's a big fan... hey if you were in her shoes; beautiful famous girl with clout and a gorgeous voice, you'd probably want to make a tribute to your favorite artist too. But this just doesn't work for me.

Here's the thing that really gets me... Tom Waits is an artist in a way that a lot of musicians aren't and can't ever be. They're not just about the songs. So much of the wonderful glorious miracle of his work, to me, is the voice, the attitude, the instrumentation, the emotion, the WAY he does it. He squeezes out the image of a gutless coward or ruthless scumbag or heartbroken sailor through his PERFORMANCE, not just the song lyrics or the tune.
