How can he read a business card if he can't read a badge? Are these people so ignorant that they believe bieng free of searches will actually make them free? So these people will be the biggest complainers if an Amtrak train was threatened because there are no more searches. Pleeeeeeaese shut up foolish ones and let yourself be searched.

And why whould you just "take a train to NY" with out a hotel reservation, from New Mexico? Sounds a little funny to me.

So he needs to have a hotel reservation in order to make it okay that he's traveling? Maybe he's staying at the house of a friend or relative in NY. Maybe he just didn't want to tell a stranger all about his personal business.
Plain clothes DEA guys often stop and talk to Amtrak passengers. Get folks talking. Then bust them for something. But, the DEA guys ought to follow court guidelines that do not include busting folks for requesting to know just who is this blue jean T-shirt guy who is demanding compliance with their demands.
