No see the australian version was about WILFRED and his owner has a boyfriend who can see Wilfred as he is. The American version is about Ryan who lives next door to Wilfred and wants to get with his owner who isn't really all that to be honest.
The fun thing about Wilfred is he's a stray. He has adventures and roams from owner to owner. IDK that's my guess anyway. I like to think the American version is just a spinoff and continues Wilfred's Adventure through life.
