  • I am hearing impaird, profound hearing loss from what my ENT told me since I can't hear anything below 90db. I don't have hearing aids at the moment as they broke and were crappy anyways, but the video is pretty much like how I hear, except that I can hear higher pitched voices than lower pitched voices. I haven't been able to go to class at college because I can't hear, and I don't know sign language.

  • @WeatherMondacicci you should go and ask for CART that is where there is someone who types out everything that is said. much like captions for the class. if you need help with gettting it message me. i am deaf, i have interpreters but i have seen CART before at different events and it is really good. it will help you for college.

  • I have been deaf since birth as well but I have a cochlear implant. Which works pretty good on hearing during daily basics, but my hard hearing does not effect me in any way. I play basketball (Like a normal kid) I also was the first deaf kid to play for my takle football team (which was really fun and competive) I make really good grades and sometimes being deaf is hard but do let it get to you. Ive had bullies in the past and all i think of them is that ill get much futher in life than them

  • Tatt opp i Oslo?

  • i mean without my hearing aid i hear nothing but some of sound i can hear it but speak do i hear it no because i dont have hearing aid right now. im getting a new one tho. this so true when you doing video exactly lol

  • GOOD JOB THAT EXACTLY IT WAS LIKE I KNOW. CUZ IM HARD OF HEARING THO.

  • if there are people like me hear me out ur not alone!!!

  • but i juz dnt like hearingaids

  • my hearing isnt necessarily like the one in this video,in kintergarden they just found out that had a hearing problem they gave me some neon FUCKING GREEN hearing aids, and it was the old system it had wires connected to a box that u had to wear around ur waist it was really embarassing kids made fun of me ive became nearly anti social, because i couldnt keep a conversation going but now im 16 in highschool and i dnt wear my hearing aids im doing fine i hav friends and i talk alot

  • i hate wearing hearing aids so much, ive been shoved in this ese program, most kids think that ese means ur retarded and i dnt even wear my hearing aids, most people are like"u need to wear ur hearing aids do u kno what im like without my glasses" BULL SHIT, u cant compair glasses and hearing aids fucking apples and oranges, lol but i hate having to say what all the time, and docters say that we dnt kno if ur hearing is going to get worse so be careful so i stopped listening to ipod music

  • Everyone i know how you feel!! I hate it!! i have blue hearing aids! i get in torble for not wearing them!

  • When the woman is getting on the bus and the driver is sounds like she is whispering to her thats how I hear withouyt a hearing aid in a crowded place

  • im not deaf but i do have hearing impaired friends. Sometimes I wonder what is it like on their side, thinking it must be hard and all. But as I hang out with them more often, I realized that sign language is beautiful. I had so much fun learning sign language from them and they're a living example of "action speaks louder than words"

    They're amazing.

  • Why is she um, stroking, her heraring aid?

  • @309893 She's not stroking it, she's adjusting it to fit comfortably to the area around her.

  • its like hearing in a water but its very different

  • there is nothing wrong with being deaf. i have high frequency and half the kids at school have no clue i'm deaf even though i have some help.

  • @danese5353

that true and i agree i am deaf and i love it! also i believe deaf people can do anything!

  • I'm a hearing imparied person but my hearing is not extreme as the person who's an hearing imapired on this video.

I believe all hearing imapried people have differnt kinds and degress of hearing.

  • i would rather be blind than hearing impared i am visually impared but i feel more for the hearing impared

  • @comneard2 And I rather be hearing impaired than be visually impaired. Seriously, was that comment necessary?

  • It is more than that. It increases social isolation and depression because you can't enjoy the things life brings you. You can't communicate, you can't listen and of course, there is music. Music is beautiful, and very challenging. I want to see a cure to end hearing impairment, so I don't have to rely on expensive hearing aids that can't duplicate the natural enhancement of hearing. And then there are batteries that are wasteful and damaging to the environment.

  • @waddleduckie1 that's kind of bull shit... life is what you make it, and you're clearly not making it anything that you like...

  • This is a major reason why I don't socialize.

  • I really like the video and the whole concept there. Very good.

  • (Part 4) The major reason why hearing impaired is still used is because doctors, audiologists, hearing schools and other hearing professionals have yet to be educated about these politically incorrect or correct terms. A group of people should be labeled as they want to call themselves, not as the oppressive majority group deems to be correct.

  • @DancingZSSF I don't mind being called hearing impaired. I have an impairment of my hearing, but I don't see myself as deaf because I can hear, I just find it hard. I realise you might be offended but I'm just saying. Alsoooo you do say 'Visually impaired'. Impairment is defined as a symptom of reduced quality or strength. My hearing isn't as strong as other people, that's why it makes sense to refer to myself as hearing impaired.

  • (Part 3) There is an incorrect notion that Deaf/deaf refers to those who cannot hear at all and hard of hearing or hearing impaired refers to those who can hear some. The deaf community knows that everyone has varying degrees of hearing loss but this doesnt seem to be a concept that the hearing community can grasp yet. Just like there are varying degrees of eyesight and strength of glasses, there are varying degrees of hearing loss and strengths/types of hearing aids and cochlear implants.

  • (Part 2) Even though there is no precise translation for DEAF, deaf people still prefer to retain the English word deaf instead of hearing impaired. Hearing Impaired has no historical ties to ASL and deaf people and furthermore Deaf people dont believe they have an impairment in hearing which is why they consider themselves not hearing. You dont call those in a wheelchair walking impaired or those who wear glasses or are blind seeing impaired.

  • (Part 1) I am deaf and am reading this book "Inside Deaf Culture" written by Carrol Padden and Tom Humphries. In the 1960s and 70s, as Deaf and ASL users were embracing their culture and allowing it to go public, the term deaf was replaced with hearing impaired in the English language. While Deaf people sign themselves DEAF, it cannot be literally translated this way in English as there is cultural meaning behind this sign that gets lost in the English language.

  • OMG okay...To start off, Hearing Impaired is very insulting to the deaf community because they are in no way impaired at all. They just have a hearing loss period. The politically correct terms are deaf or hard of hearing and news flash if you can't hear well enough to communicate with people without your hearings, you are deaf regardless of if you were raised oral or went to deaf institute.

  • Hearing impairment is what it is called in special education.

  • No it does not. It just mean you have hearing lost- there- nothing wrong with your mind!

Person who wear glass does not need special education- My ex girlfreind before could see and went fishing something bad happen - wont go in detail but and now she can no longer see but she is the smartest one in the school 4.00 when we were in high school and she love to dance!

  • I did not say there was anything wrong with the mind. If you research hearing impairment is what it is called in special education. I also said nothing about not being able to see. Also there are going to be modifications made for these people are successful and that is what special education does for people.

  • @roadrunnerdance well people think theres something wrong with the mind.. =/

  • Agree- I am professional Ballet dancer who now work with 8 different dance company and I am deaf. I was kind of shock about this video- Funny thing is alway felt deaf people alway look both way across the street because they are not trying to listen for the car - they are watching out for cars the whole time. google Antoine hunter - he explain about deaf life.

  • It's ironic, isn't it?

This video about hearing impaired has no closed captions available.

  • I know some deaf ppl dat have extrodinary talents such as sports, dance, fishing, hunting, & playing Video games. I play my deaf bro at NCAA 09 4 x-box 360 & he whips me at my own game hows dat shyt?! =) oh did I mention dat some deaf ppl can read lips rite off the back no matter wat ur saying?!

  • I'm 17 and I'm deaf in my right ear. I have a sloping hearing loss in my left and I'll probably lose it all in my mid 20's. I've never met or talked to anyone else who is hearing impaired and is my age... until yesterday. And yesterday is when I held a meeting with a group of deaf and hearing impaired kids. It was for my senior project. I wanted to see what it was like for other kids. I don't have many friends so it meant a lot to me.

  • Should've added that I've been hearing impaired since I was 4 too.

  • if you haven't already, maybe it would be good to learn sign language. I'm hearing but started in January and love it, the deaf people i have met are great.

  • and i was born with it

  • I have moderate hearing loss in my right and severe hearing loss in left ear.

  • I am profoundly deaf it has affected my speech severely im barely understood

  • Isn't it aweful that insurance doesn't cover hearing aids? And they cost so much. I am sorry that you can only afford one and yes, when my aids break I get upset too. That's perfectly normal.

  • This made me cry... My son is 17 months old and Congenital Cytomegalovirus damaged his hearing- mod/sev in left and prof in right. Reading the comments and watching the video make me feel so bad for my son... I dont want him growing up depressed and sad or feeling lonely... I fear for my sons future, whether he will be happy and accepted...

  • Your son will be fine. There are deaf actors, doctors, lawyers, performers, businessmen, inventors...

People try to make it seem like deafness is such a horrific "disability"...but it's really not. Deaf people are only "disabled" by those around them...

I've been deaf since birth. Grew up Deaf. ASL is my first language, English is my second. I really have no problems either working or communicating.

  • I am hearing and I don't have children so my opinion may be entirely misguided... I believe that if you begin to learn sign language now, you can have your child speaking and being able to express himself very early on. (part 1 of 2)

  • (part 2) Enabling not only the acquisition of sign language but the ability for you both to continue to bond further and I am probably right in assuming he will thank you for it later. Also my deaf friend is a teacher for deaf and hearing people, he is currently teaching British Sign Language and he also teaches deaf people English so they can fill out job applications and things. He impacts people's lives in a profound way, he is happy to be Deaf and doesn't want to be hearing. Best of luck

  • We chose not to learn sign and to focus on him learning to listen and use speech. Kaiden is now 21 months old and has around 20 words and sounds.

Not all hearing impaired people need 2 learn sign in order to communicate. In this day and age there are many developments and technologies that mean you dont HAVE to learn sign to communicate.

  • dueaug132007, you may reconsider when you research cognitive development and the positive impact sign language has on language development for both hearing and deaf babies. Please look up the Deaf Bilingual Coalition for information relating to your child's language acquisition. The earlier you learn and use sign language with your child, the better. Why do you think there has been an explosion in teaching hearing babies sign? It helps the brain develop.

  • I dont need to reconsider anything- being hearing impaired does not automatically mean people can assume he should be signing.

As his parents, we have made the decisoon we feel is best and will not do what someone else believes to be whats best.

Kaiden is almost 23mths and his Audio and ST are all extremely happy with his progress. He learns new words all the time and does just fine communicating and his brain development is just fine- u dont need to sign to develope ur brains ability!!!

  • BTW- this is "dueaug132007", just replied from my TTC channel accidently.

  • I hope I didn't offend you. I am sure that his Audio and ST are happy with his progress. I just wasn't sure you knew all of facts regarding language development, and how sign language is proven to be beneficial cognitively to deaf and hearing babies, so I recommended researching those facts. Apologies if I made you feel somehow judged or defensive in this. That was not my intention.

  • I too, didn't mean to come off as offensive. I am hard of hearing and I think it can be very benefical to learn spoken and signed language, especially at a young age. Just something to think abt... :)

  • @AussieMummySince07 Speech is a skill, language is a must.

  • It is extremely helpful though id a deaf/ hoh person can sign. Have you actually met any deaf people??

  • Was that aimed at me? The: "have you actually met any deaf people?" Of course i have, my son has hearing loss, so yes of course i have.

  • I was refering to susccessful Deaf adults that use signed language (ASL, BSL, whatever) as their Native Language ...

  • Whoa... This video opened my eyes as a legally blind person. It's a day-to-day challenge living with very poor vision as it is, but if I ever suffered from hearing loss, I would be devistated, especially since my hearing is my #1 keen sense. I hope they find a cure one sweet day for all causes of hearing loss.

  • It's kind of lonely being hearing impaired. Even though I have a great wife (she's legally blind without her glasses; so we're a pair!), most people don't understand what it's like to be deaf/hard of hearing. I think this also helps to keep me from getting a job.

  • I'm in your shoes as far as not getting a job is concerned. I'm not hearing impaired, but I am visually impaired, and I've been declined from one job after another just because employers see a white cane in my hands. I suppose all we can do is keep our heads up and keep trying...

  • I have a moderate hearing loss in my left ear.

and a mild hearing loss in my right ear.

  • I live with my deafness and hearing impairment everyday. it is a challenge. I have hard time understanding what people are saying and church is a challenge for me to hear the message.

  • I'm hearing impaired. I wonder what it's like to be normal hearing though. It's depressing without them because my hearing is like the a tv. maybe at level 30 on volume is what I hear. Servely impaired. It's hard for me to understand. AndI end up saying "WHAT!? WHAT U SAY!?" And it gets annoying. Ii feel at if I don't fit in with the kids just because of my hearing. But the good thing is I know sign language. And yes, hearing loss affects ur writing and speaking and LA.

  • wow. this video has given me real insight into what its like to be hearing impaired :)

  • My dads deaf. I only wish that he could hear my guitar playing to give me a little feedback. Im pretty sure hed like to hear it..

  • this is my hearing right now...... with hearing aids.. without its almost nothing... its depressing

  • I am hearing impaired. Thank you for this video. It's like everyday life for me.

  • You brought tears to my eyes with this video. Thank you. I need to make one with just me staring at my tv with no CC.
