  • My all time favorite H&O song, such beautiful harmonies!

  • Good morning hope everyone had a nice yesterday! This song always reminds me of weeping and sorrow may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning scripture which I think is psalm 30:5 if I'm not mistaken. Truth is sometimes it takes much longer than 24 hours to get over it.

  • one of my favorite songs of theirs :)

  • Great song, nice vid, can't help thinking John Oates looks like Baba Booey from the Stern Show, no diss intended, these guys made some GREAT music!

  • @strummersbrother Baba Booey indeed!

  • forever ♥

  • daryl hall doesnt seem to have aged much at all over the years .. wonder if he has a portrait in his attic !!

  • DAME,if i don't like that philly sound and that island flava iit'S all GOOD \ooo/ BABY

  • hard to believe Abandoned Luncheonette is a 1973 album. recently discovered it... WOW...

  • I love Hall and Oates so much. They sound great.

  • i do love hall and oates they have been a wonderful part of my childhood but i have to say that kalapana's version of this song is better

  • its and old somg but its also timeless, thats what i like about hall&oates music, it has no bounderies, you could listen to this in 70s,80s,90s and now and it still sounds fresh and alive..........

  • yeah, kalapana version sucks.Dont even try to compare that no name band to hall and oates cuz there is no comparison.Hall and Oates forever baby!

  • they should consider to transfer the songs a note or two. as far as i can say hall still plays it in the same tunes as 30 years ago.

  • genius indeed . . .

  • THE ALBU VERSION OF THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER! THEY TRY TODO IT BETTERBUT FAIL! NO GOOD LIVE! THIS IS FROM THE BEST ALBUM THEY EVER DID.

  • Many have tried to feel to play to endure Daryls sorrow his pain his being by remaking his songs but people dont understand these words have been written by this man how can another person really compliment the meaning and the feeling of his songs by anyone else except the writer... I hate it when singer Jacks Daryls's songs ....

Theyre his memories his experiences and his mojo....

Stop jacking bitches youll never come close to the genius who is Daryl Hall

  • Wow Daryl has still got it :D 61 here and still HOT!!! <3 <3 <3

  • Hall and Oats did the original,Kalapana made it their own, I prefer the Kalapana version.

  • Nice channel you have here. Thanks. I have two guitar picks signed by each of them....two really nice, down-to-earth guys! John Oates grew up a few miles away from me. He comes from a very nice, warm family, no surprise.

  • ♥

  • I remember walking in to The Bitter End in NYC one night in the 70's and seeing these guys doing this tune from the album Abandon Luncheonette, they really weren't that famous yet in the New York area even being from Philidelphia. It was definitely a treat that night.

  • excellent

  • I keep listening to this song over and over again... maybe it's the "double double" entendres...

  • Hall and Oates wrote the song! I had never even heard of Kalapana till you posted this.

  • They are the 70's band from Hawaii who wrote and sang "nightbird" and "the hurt". It's vocalist , guitarist and songwriter -Mackey Feary is really wonderful. Hope you don't mind but may I suggest that you try to view some of them here in youtube., you might enjoy list'nin' to their songs also, I'm a Hall & Oates fan also. I love that duo. Thanks for this post and God Bless. :)

  • They also wrote "Goodnight and Good Morning " that was played by Cecilio and Kapono

  • @Lukesfan I had NO idea H&O wrote this song! I'm from Hawaii, and had never heard any other version other than Kalapana's. I love H&O's version too!! Music is a wonderful thing, so many versions, so little time!!!

  • Who's the original? Hall & Oates or Kalapana?

  • Wish Daryl Hall had played the mandolin on it like in the original. :)

  • I didn't discover this song till my college days back in the late 70's but thanks for awesome dorm mates with great taste in music.....this soon became one of my favorites!!!!!

  • anybody know the chords to the song this song is fiyah...

  • On the newest LivefromDarylsHouse, Kevin Bacon tells Daryl he watched this video on YouTube! Wow, who thought when I put this up that Kevin Bacon would watch it! Cool!

  • How many degrees of separation does that give you? thanks for posting this video, I love this song.

  • Ha!Ha! One of my friends posted that on my Facebook page! Thanks for posting

  • Great minds think alike, right? or are we just being dull... I guess I'll need to check your Facebook page out.

  • @Lukesfan :)) sweet...

  • Has anyone ever heard their Todd Rundgren produced FIRST album:

    "War Babies, Son of Zorro"?

  • Just a minor technicality, but the album is called "War Babies." and then there's a song on that album called "War Baby Son of Zorro."

But yes, it's an amazing album. In some ways, it's more Todd Rundgren's album than Hall & Oates, but it's still one that shouldn't be missed. Folks who think all Daryl and John ever did was "Maneater" and "Private Eyes" (along with goofy MTV videos) should give this a listen (along with "Along the Red Ledge" from 1978 and Daryl's "Sacred Songs" solo album).

  • Sorry, my comment was addressed to TheChoofmeister. Another album that's well worth a listen to is, of course, the one where "When the Morning Comes" first appeared: "Abandoned Luncheonette." Wish that one would come out as a remastered CD (along with the other two Atlantic studio albums, "War Babies" and "Whole Oats"). I believe their entire RCA catalogue has been remastered and rereleased on CD.

  • both Kevin and H&O are from the Philly area

  • yes it is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!

  • WOW.....this was their very first hit single. I"m almost 50, and remember when the Abandoned Luncheonette album first came out. Incredible, but their best overall project was the "Silver Album", which had Sara Smile on it.

  • These guys are one of a kind !! They'll probably be playing their music over a high tech sound system in some far away space station 500 years from now.......& dancing around !! Thanx for posting

  • A very charming song... thank you Lukesfan for this video. Ineeded a little pickup today.

  • I was pleasantly surprised when I recently went to a Hall and Oats concert and they played this song. This song brings back so many memories when I was back in school in 1974...when the song was then recorded by Kalapana in Hawaii. Was nice to hear it from Hall and Oats who also bring many teenage memories!

  • i love this song. i think im the only kid my age that loves their songs. especially abandoned luncheonette.

  • Such a massive part of the 70/80s these guys from phila area strayed disco and created a different sound that was fun to go out to hear.

what guy who ever lost a girl has never heard She 's Gone!

  • By the way, who is in the band here? I hear somebody tooting away on soprano sax but can't see them!

  • The band here is Elliot Lewis on keys, T-Bone on guitar, Charlie "Mr. Casual" DeChant on sax, Mike Braun on drums, Zev Katz on bass and Everett Bradely on percussion. A great bunch of talented musicians.

  • Fab-a-dab wunderbar!

'80s pop atrocities such as Maneater scuttled these guys' credibility to a large degree, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of their output from "Abandoned Luncheonette" through "Voices" -- 1973 to 1980 -- is quite sublime. And there is a cornucopia of styles in there from glam to Zep wannabe-ism, but it is all tied together by killer songcraft, unassailable vocal chops and soulfulness to the core.

Saw 'em live twice in the late '70s. Amazing.

  • they had a lot of #1 hits in the 80s, but i really like their early stuff better. "Abandoned Luncheonette" is a classic.

  • I totally agree. Here in Costa Rica they`re only recognized by their 80`s stuff and very few know that they went through this wonderful time of great songs and full creativity. Well, with the exception of "She`s gone" probably

  • sigh... yupp

  • Thank you for this great clip!

As a college freshman in 1976 I was fortunate enough to find friends in the dorm who had discovered "Abandoned Luncheonette" What an amazing album!

I can't think of another side one LP with 5 songs as good!

Thinking back, in those days, the cross pollination of musical tastes with people who grew up in different places was one of the most valuable gifts of the dorm life.

No iPods, few decent headphones, you were exposed to other peoples favorites.

    SO LUCKY!

  • I can't believe that you found this song!

  • Daryl and John sound faboulous!!! thank you so much for sharing with us!

  • Thanks for these videos and allowing me to re-live Friday night! I saw H2O 25 years ago and I never dreamed I'd have the experience I had at the Troubadour...amazing, careers resurrected, a night to remember always. Daryl & John should be headed to the R&R Hall of Fame, no doubt about it!

  • very nice version. hey kev i'm glad you're in touch with your feminine side.

  • WOW!!! this just brought back SO MANY MEMORIES to me. The first song I ever heard by Daryl & John and to hear it LIVE for the first time 2 Nights in a row. DOUBLE WOW!!!Sharing with friends..PRICELESS

Thanks for sharing V and for making me CRY.

    Kev
