  • Even though illmatic is considered by many to be the greatest Hip-Hop album of all time, I still think it's underrated. It should be compulsory to do a class on it.

    One What? One Love!

  • I love how that last verse got turned into a scene in "Belly." Classic shit!!!

  • @twareiii I was just thinking that haha

  • "Then I rose, wiping the blunts ash from my clothes

Then froze only to blow the herb smoke through my nose"

You can literally close your eyes and see that image play right before them, like a projector.

I heard he looks like you, why don't your lady write you?

Told her she should visit, that's when she got hyper

Flippin, talk about he acts too rough

He didn't listen he be riffin' while I'm telling him stuff

    Love that line

  • Damn Nas looked so young, we were all young back then

  • Nas is one of my favorites. Most people don't like intelligent rap or real music at all. But Nas intelligently describes the problems that exist in his community without directly describing it but telling a story. In the early 90's when this video and album came out the economy was worse, urban decay was at its peak, crime and the homicide rate was at its peak, institutionalized racism and racists stereotypes was completely in the open. Nas articulately tells a story regarding these bleak issues

  • does anyone a song that goes like even if with didnt live in the same home something something ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ladila tidata cause your dadys little one.please if you have heard a song like this msg me back

  • If you ever start losing your grip on wut real rap is just throw on illmatic

  • one of the best written hip hop songs ever----nas' storytelling is genius. The third verse is particularly incredible

  • S

  • @iKiddLu ME TOO! I GOT ALL THOSE CDS AND MORE

  • i am the creator of the "HipHopApostles" group on facebook and would like to share the real hip hop with the people who give respect to it

  • this is like the fucking best rap song ever

  • lyricaly I have not found a better rapper then Nas

  • DEAR NAS, what up son it's Mega

I got your letter, me and my cousin Oogie here together

Aiyyo your man Duke came through

you should know the situation cause we dealing with the same crew

and you can tell that crab shorty I'm a hurt her

for fucking with them niggaz from that crew she know we want to murder

  • this joint makes me calm. one love

  • But yo, guess who got shot in the dome-piece?

Jerome's niece, on her way home from Jones Beach - it's bugged

  • Cypher + Prose = Cyprose

  • This is the one of the few songs that actually make me teary eyed

  • the beginning of this vid is reminiscent of the final scene of the movie "strapped' where dude tries to dip after the shootout and gets boxed in the park ill song one of the hardest nas joints ever the qtip cooked up the perfect beat fo this too real smooth reminds you of new york

  • love NAS, but in this video the beginning when he's looking out the window, I always think about JAY Z song... you didnt live it you witnness it from your projects window.(LMAO).. even though I know nas had a song called project window...

  • gd point but i recon nas was always to smart for that gangbangin shit but yh u rite

  • @jimmylovesstuff what your saying good point. but nas know god love us hood....and he also know about the thief coming out at nite or even check out amongst kings(I think that's the name) he sound like he lived it and if not he just witness from his folks crib...lol

  • @brownsugar976

nas was no thug, but he did do a small bit of dealing and caught a gun charge when he was 17, other than that, just the every day round the way dude from the block.

  • @brownsugar976 hahaha true, true

  • 0:13 the guy is like frezze mutha ***** then u here the person in the back go oh my god ( lol that was wicked funny )

  • check the remix

    watch?v=7Xb8V3fovnY

    one love

  • what up with cormega, did you see him?are yall together?

  • Perfect example of great story telling in old school hip hop.... Nas is definitely one of the best lyrically artists

  • cowritten by Q-tip dude

  • Q -tip produced this song

  • TRUE!

  • @Tru3nLyfe was

  • @Tru3nLyfe and one of the powerful

  • @Tru3nLyfe Best lyrically artist? Do you think before you type?

  • @ShitGetsBrill Did your dad think about using a condom?

  • The audio quality on this video is fuckin' horrible

  • one love stop the fuking killin's god dammit

  • q-tip got this shit

  • Don't get it twisted, Jay is Nas biggest fan, "I'm out for Presidents to Represent me", "I'm from where niggas will pull your card nd argue whose the greatest mc Biggie Jayz or Nas", like son said u been on my dick nigga u love my style.

  • Wanted to be on every last one of my classics !!WHOOOO "i spit hott Fiyah"

  • @shonha1 yu made no sense

  • @Jihadamari1992 I had to go searching through a yr of comments to see what made no sense to u, ok either your a JayZ fan or u need to step your HipHop knowledge up, the Dead Presidents sample, that was a Nas line, the lyrics about whose the greatest mc Biggie Jayz or Nas, that's from a Jay song called Where I'm From, nd the last part of the comment is from the intro to Ether, so all I was saying which wasn't hard to comprehend is, Jay has always been Nas biggest fan e.g. Empire State Of Mind

  • @shonha1 dat still make no sense bruh jus cause jay said who the greastest mc biggie jay or nas dont mean he nas biggest fan he cud be jus biggin him up for his lyrical stature and as far as hip hop knowledge lol please i got enough

  • @Jihadamari1992 I wish i could speak it slow for you, but here goes, again forget about the lyrics nd all that, JayZ with all his success nd accolades, he still is a big fan of what Nas does, the thing is why is that such a hard thing for you to come to grips with

  • @shonha1 yu aint gotta speak slow for me yu dont even kno jay or nas so yu shud jus enjoy the music

  • @Jihadamari1992 jay-z isnt better than nas stfu jay startred a fight with nas and got smashed by ether.

  • @ShawShank503 nigga i never said jay was better what the fuck yu tawkin bout lol

  • @ShawShank503 o my bad lol

  • I love Nas, but everytime I look at this video I think about was jigga man said you didnt witness it.

  • 0:21 I meant to say what jigga man said about you didn't live it you witness from you window, that's how you chipped ur tooth.

  • yeah man i see the same thing and feel the same way i just see him in the window of his folks pad where he scribled in his note pad but he was mad young teen then Jay was already grown

  • yo this when he was on point he suck now

  • Real Life ish

  • my favorite poet nas

  • The crack-heads stalking, loud-mouths is talking

Hold, check out the story yesterday when I was walking

Wasn't that in GL's mix with papoose

    out in new york

  • well if it is in that mix,

They clearly took it from the profit godson

  • green lantern's out in new york uses a line from this song I tink

  • This track probably inspired The Game

  • y can't rap b like this now?!

  • It's become too easy for rappers to make money with mediocre lyrics. Back then, respect was based on lyrics and not meaningless record sales.

  • 50 years from now this song will sound just as good as the day it was produced!! One love!!

  • his best sh*t eva

  • cool the dude put the lyrics on the info, cool

    1

  • shit is timeless..

    one love..

  • nas is the best rapper alive he is a rap god is wordplay is crazy..im only 15 years old he is my rap influence

  • nobody cares ur 15

  • werd yo dont limit yourself to your age its only a number

  • ESCO

  • "Hova" is Nas biggest fan! I bet Jay's youtube name is nasfan.

  • hahahaha you stupid.

  • For real though dukes, he's shouting out Nas as the best Mcee on his first album. That album was his replica of Illmatic.

  • "Shorty's laugh was cold blooded as he spoke so foul

Only twelve trying to tell me that he liked my style"

  • Gotta be one of the realest tracks i've ever heard. I mean besides "dear mama."

  • nerver knew this song had a clip

  • this shits bangin

  • Defenitely one of the best rap songs EVER made........compare these heart-felt and intelligent lyrics to those lyrics of today's rap................." Sometimes i sit back with a buddha sack, minds in another world thinking how can we exist through the facts, written in school textbooks, bibles, et cetera, fuck a school lecture, the lies get me vexed -er"........enough said

  • this makes me wanna smoke a blee swisher ta da face

  • One Of The Best damn Hip Hop Songs ever Made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUFF SAID

  • man .. i really miss 90's days .. it was the best days in hip hop ...

  • I never saw this before man.....

  • the video picks up where The World Is Yours Q Tip remix video leaves off

  • One love.

    Strait up.

  • ahhh good ol' times!

  • Q tip produced this classic

  • "Jerome's niece, on her way home from Jones Beach - it's bugged"

    i love jones beach!!

  • This song makes me sad... i dont know why. Althogh nas is a genoius !

  • i agree with u...i dont know why but this is great stuff, back me to good old days

  • is it nostalgia? cuz I feel you on the sad piece. thinkin how things were then.

  • man nas is the king this shit is 10000 times better then wtf they are doing today. I will admit theirs is SOME good acts today but not none of this top 40 stuff. Its all recycled. A good example of how everything is... 50 cent disses ja rule for singing, etc..... WHAT is 50 cent doing??? singing... its kinda gay these guys are all hippocrites.

  • nas is the G.O.A.T.

  • thats q-tip on the chorus rite?

  • Yup, his voice is unique, I think he produced the song, I'm not sure though.

  • bang ur girl doggy style as u flip the tape to this side, this beat will keep u pumpin hard, try to make it to the finish of it aint hard 2 tell while keeping up w every songs beat

  • Savigetskone

    is my bietch

  • this song is alright

  • But I heard you blew a nigga with a ox for the phone piece

Whylin on the Island, but now with Elmira

Better chill cause them niggaz will put that ass on fire cant seem to interpret this

  • lmfao how can u not understand it?an ox is a razor blade the island is short for rikers island a jail, & elmira is an up state prision.

  • i heard you used a razorblade to get the phone, you were raising hell in rikers island (jail in new york) but now youre in elmira (a maximum security prison in ny) so you better calm down cause guys there are crazy

    im pretty sure thats it

  • wilin on the island

    but now in elmira

better chill cuz them niggas will put that ass on fire

  • On 4:01 thats the scene from Belly, I just now figured that out.
