This is the original headset, probably close to 10 years ago. The last I heard was that the VFX-10 is the last set they made and is very High Rez and about $1800.00 I could be wrong on the price but its not cheap. I will do more research see whats up with this company.
@Wara879 Where did you read about it? ForteVR is now Vuzix, and they have a website where you can see what HMDs they are making. None of them is called VFX10.
yeah try wearing it for 120 min watching tv or something,A you will have a splitting headache from the vision distortion, and the sheer weight of the unit alone. the Phillips Scuba is not nearly half as big but still gives you a hell of a headache.
@fronzel99 anyone remember the crappy crappy VR helmet that was offerd for the Supernintendo? lol i bought one in a pawnshop for like 15 bucks onetime,,that thing was a waste of time inventing.though the frame could be used for some home brew/DIY VR tinkering. i mean the thing had probably less than 220x130 res.it was like looking at legos dancing.
You must be talking about the "Victormaxx stuntmaster". Hell that was so low-tech, it wasnt even VR, it was a single non-stereoscopic disply with terrible res and the headtracking was some mechanical crap like a joystick clipped to your t-shirt that gets pulled or pushed by a stick on the headset while you turn your head. Boy that was the worst piece of headgear ever designed by mankind...
I still have my VFX1. I still have the computer I used it on and I still have EF2000 flight sim that worked with the VFX1. I used to fly upside down over an airport in my EF200 eurofighter and look at the passing airport as I turned my head.
Yeah, that company changed name several times. At first they were ForteVR, in 2000 they became IISVR, in 2004 they became Icuiti and in 2007 they became Vuzix.
3)The VFX1 only works in DOS, only with video cards with a VESA connector, and only with the games that have been explicitly programmed to use it.
4) Virtual reality allows you to have a stereoscopic experience, which is a lot more immersive than any graphic improvement could ever hope to be. But you're *NOT* gonna get it with a VFX1 today.
5) No. You're better off buying a VR920 from Vuzix (which, by the way, used to be ForteVR in the 1990s).
you cant buy the VFX1 new anymore, you might find them on ebay from time to time. You can get new 640x480 stereoscopic VR eyewear, with headtracking from the vuzix website
Anyone have games driver for Forte VFX1?

what year was this made in? Ive got Phillips scuba vr system and that was so suck ass it was unreal.

The VFX-1's only flaw was the crappy ISA card which doesn't fit in any modern PC, if it didn't come with this I'd prolly still use it today.

im still waiting for this technology to mature enough to see some good products. So far everything like this out there now is pretty disappointing

The Vuzix wrap 920 is now available. the 6dof tracking and camera for augmented reality accessories are not available at launch.
I would like to see a review before I buy.
You could combine natural point's trackir5 for tracking and that could be a temporary workaround for flight sims.
The wrap 920 adds a 3d effect and direct view thus enhancing your orientation than with the trackir5 alone.
There are products with higher fields of view and higher resolutions but these run $ 20000.

I have two headsets but only one controller.
I have one system speced up just enough to play Half-Life 2 and with a LinkBox I made myself it's happily running on an ATI Radeon 9600XT.
