By the way - Opium addiction can be as bad a methadone. Morphine, clinically, 3 hour half life. Opium is seven hours. Whilst not as bad as methadone, opium contains 40-50 alkaloids, so you're addicted to multiple opiates. Whilst you're finished with morphine, you could withdraw from another. But the point stands - chronic pain patients will need medication for life. So withdrawal isn't an issue. And opium is probably the most efficacious cure for pain, even better than straight pills. I agree.

Poppies don't grow well in climates that are very hot and humid.Last season when I planted my poppies they were doing fine until the temperature in NJ started to reach 90 degrees and up.What sucked is we had a heat wave and my poppies started to dry out realy quick and they died from the hot temperature.The season before that wich was two springs ago I succesfuly grew some persian blue poppies wich did great and an afghan poppy.I have to grow my poppies in pots because theres no soil in my yard.
@orlie100 You need to put your seeds in a spot where the sun shines the most,they need a good amount of sunlight and they don't need that much water and plant your seeds in loose soil and they will do fine.Poppies take about 3 to 4 months to fully grow once there in there flowering stage and the pedals bloom the pedals will fall off within about 24 hours and the pod will appear and It gets bigger .It usualy takes about 3 days for the pod to grow to it's full size depending on the strain.

And who said anything about weaning off? I don't see a problem with using opium for life. I've been on the same dose as when I started almost 6 years ago. I have had ups and downs though, I was on suboxone for a while too - it worked GREAT for me, but it was simply too expensive.

@tpvalley I'd say 1 gram of opium per day would be more than enough with high grade 25% opium considering there are other things besides morphine, like codeine, thebaine, papaverine, noscapine and other relaxants. Opium is also longer acting because of the natural meconate salt which can make the effects last 12-24 hours as opposed to a pharmaceutically refined sulphate or hydrochloride salt that only lasts between 3-4 hours. In India they process 25kg - 30kg of opium per acre.

Yes you could use poppies to wean yourself down but as you probably already know an opiate addict has a VERY hard time being in control of dishing out opiates. He/she will most likely always use it up too fast and suffer afterwards. Fuck it, who needs permission, groe them either way! I gotta go, suboxone doc appointment

@ontariobuds Eh....not necessarily. There are conflicting studies on it, but not all opiate addicts just use more and more, it really depends on a lot of other factors. And who said anything about weaning off? I don't see a problem with using opium for life. I've been on the same dose as when I started almost 6 years ago. I have had ups and downs though, I was on suboxone for a while too - it worked GREAT for me, but it was simply too expensive.

@anapao89 heroin is an opiate synthetic derivative of morphine, much stronger with much much greater risk of overdose, this being said the high itself is somewhat similar, euphoric, sedative, mentally and physically relaxing. the main difference is intensity, while opium smoking can be quite intense, the initial rush from heroin,especially when used intravenously, is incomparable to most substances.

i have always felt something different about opiates. the other day when i was on oxycodone i felt like i could see my higher self as a ball of light above my head when i closed my eyes. i could also experience conscious lucid dreaming by simply closing my eyes.

Thanks for sharing that. I've experienced many different astral, dream, psychic and creative states. I must say opium is more unique above the refined opiates in its ability to bring about more spiritual / shamanic states.

That's because unlike all those other drugs which are often just a single isolated chemical, Opium consists of countless alkaloids, opiates and even some cannabinoids.

I have always said cannabis is illegal because governments fear it as a mind opener, it frees the inmates from a mental prison, also when illegal it contacts many evil people leaving a nasty energy about it plus when illegal the evil people try to tempt us with evil drugs like methamphetamine.
I say give addicts a field and tell them to plant what they will use, it would keep them busy and be self sufficient, they could even grow food also.

@tpvalley No land is needed more than that already in use. Yearly production is about double what the world uses and the rest is stockpiled to artificially raise prices. If a city did want to grow for its own it would be about 6 acres or less depending on efficiency for one 90 cycle to supply 500 users for an entire year.

6 acres would be between 6-30 kilos, one kilo would do 3 addicts a year-
1kg=1000,000mg and an average habit uses 1000mg a day, so 365,000mg a year per addict of opium= 250mg morphine I think? actually thats not enough, what say u?

@tpvalley I'd say 1 gram of opium per day would be more than enough with high grade 25% opium considering there are other things besides morphine, like codeine, thebaine, papaverine, noscapine and other relaxants. Opium is also longer acting because of the natural meconate salt which can make the effects last 12-24 hours as opposed to a pharmaceutically refined sulphate or hydrochloride salt that only lasts between 3-4 hours. In India they process 25kg - 30kg of opium per acre.

when u take codiene with morphine the effects r less potent, thats why when seperated morphine is 4 to 8 x more potent.
My doctor and I worked out that fore a 95mg methadone habit u need about 800mg of morphine, thats about equal to 3.6g of opium.
opium users generally smoke 3 times a day but the daily dose is still the same just spread out, in afganistan they get 1-5kg per acre.
