I have one of these but I heard it wasn't life threatening. Should I go get it removed or not? I'm terrified of needles and the cyst doesn't cause me any pain. It just looks funny.. thoughts?
@diamondgirl828 Hi there! It is actually very GOOD that needles/syringes can be obtained anywhere! If they werent, there would be a much higher rate of infections with HIV, hepatitis and other viral/bacterial infections. It's worse enough, that we have addicted people, we dont have to force them to REUSE and SHARE, dull, infected or simply dirty needles. Since we (i live in Germany) made needles easy accessabel for anyone, the infection rate droped. I think, thats a good reason:)
Thanks for sharing this. I have a ganglia in the palm of my hand and the joint between thumb and palm. Since I have two, I'm going to have a doc take a look but watching this was helpful. Mine are caused from heavy workouts I suspect...and growing old.
when i was younger my mom had the dr medically drain my cyst but it has been back for years so it was pretty much a waste of time for a visit to the dr
I have a ganglion in the exact same spot. Ive tried to aspirate it on my own with no success. It went away, and now its back. I went to the doc and shes referring me to an orthopedist to remove it.
I had a ganglion cyst as a teen and eventually it went away. Mine developed due to guitar practice, so I decided to go into a different line of work. Not knocking what you are doing as far as doing something about it, but I took mine as a hint to look into a different career.
ive got one on my knuckle i tried lancing with a glucose needle but after the first try i was like maybe thats not a good idea, i was afraid of maybe hitting the synovial capsule and not the cyst....got drunk one time and got obsessive about it and liek used my teeth till it popped and started oozing....THAT wasnt a good idea either, all germy and junk....it did reduce size tho so woot
haha! man i had this bump just appear and been wondering what it was did some searching and noticed this is exactly what i had. i got a regular sewing needle from my grandma's little sewing case heated it up with lighter ya i kno im not very dr but hey it cured my bump!! the gel shit came out and i laughed hella thx for this video!!

@ronniegeorge10 go to a country where they can't just buy sterile medical supplies and you'll see them reuse needles all the time with a simple flame to it. try getting medical supplies without having a license... a supplier will take you for an addict. prize doofus my balls.
@SlagathoR45 I met a lady who went to TJ just to pick up needles for her weekly allery injection. Just walked right into a pharmacy and got them. But I guess this wouldn't help if you don't live anywhere near the border.
@lovelymuse488 oh i figured if a doctor prescribed that medication it would be easier to get. the whole issue with the cyst people is that doctors won't prescribe a needle for personal aspiration.
a) any trained medically trained person (or looking up on the internet) will tell you not to pierce ganglions/cysts etc as all you are doing is inviting infection, especially by reusing a needle. judging by your accent, i take it you are NOT in a country which has to reuse needles that have been 'sterilised' by flame. so why take the risk? oh yeah, to get a small clip on yutube. worth the potential sepsis. a doofus in anyones book ;0)
@ronniegeorge10 what a lot of shite. If you clean the needle so that is as sterile as you can make it, (without going overboard and burning it and stuff) as long as no one else has used the needle then you can use it as often as you like and the only germs you will pass on to yourself are your own which you are probably immune to now anyway. Piercing cysts is a bit daft though because they will just keep coming back. Even if you bird is quite hot.
Be careful with that; particularly when you're not using sterile equipment (rinsing a used needle in alcohol or flaming it does not count as sterile). If you introduce infection into the joint, you could actually destroy your wrist joint, which is really bad.
ahahaha i'm kinda disgusted at the fact that this was a suggestion after one of my Call Of Duty: Black Ops videos... know why? My gamertag is Ganglia T >.> not sure how i feel about this. lol
@commando4500 yeah when i did that i would reuse that needle so i'd sanitize it with alcohol which wasn't the greatest idea. later i'd sterilize it under a flame but still a new needle is the best bet.
i actually did it and i got a little out but not the whole thing so i'm going to go to the docs, and see what he says....it might not all be a ganglion lol
but i was supirsed that it didn't hurt where u injected
are you supposed to put the needle through the top of the cyst? i had this done to me today and the doctor didn't really put it through the top more like the front and idk if there is a specific place that you need to have the needle go through, and did your wrist hurt for a while after? no really bad but a little bit
@duzongyang I actually don't know how much they cost, I just asked the doctor to do it when I went in for my physical. I would definitely recommend going to see a docor to get it done though! Also, the doctor will numb it before he drains it so that is good but when he numbs it, he put's a needle in the cyst and that hurts a little bit, but other than that it should be fine. Last, make sure if you do end up going to a doctor to let the doctor know where the ''head.''
Mine never gets that big so whacking it with a book never works but it always hurts like crazy. Then I do push ups and it goes away. I had a surgeon tell me that surgery to excise it is particularly dangerous given its proximity to a key nerve that runs through the wrist.
I have a cyst as well but do not want to go to a doc bc i hear people do it themselves..do u need to take sumthing ahead of time and how long will it hurt afterwards?
@sweetsnowpea if you want to pretend like it's the civil war you can take a swig of whiskey, but it's really not that big of a deal. it didn't hurt afterwards, and really the only pain involved was initially poking through the skin. i just soaked my hand in hot water for a while first to soften it.
I have one in the same spot. I went to the doc for it, and they couldnt remove it because of the location and that I would have to go to an ortho...>_<
Later on that day it popped while I was on the treadmill...but didnt want to drain!
So now I have a huge bump on my wrist with a scab on top of it :/
I seriously did not know that you could drain ganglion's until now. I have a ganglion on my right hand (top side not palm side) that always appears then disappears. It is on the 'ring finger' tendon so it moves under the skin as I move my finger. I was told that 'self-burst' if I wanted by hitting my hand on a hard surface. It doesn't hinder movement or anything so I'll just live with it. LoL. Thanks for the vid though, at least I know there is this option, even if it may only be temporary. :P
@Sukua22 I recommend that you DO NOT burst it by hitting it, been there done that it was a VERY stupid mistake. Ended up damaging the tissue around the cyst and it came back anyways. I went to the Doctor and had it sucked out, much less painful.
@kramma888 yeah the usually are, but for some reason mine had created separate pockets, so i had to go through two or three different layers. funky schtuff.
@SlagathoR45 dang you should have shaved first because you could have gotten a type of bacterial infection from your hair buy good thing you didnt lol
@frylok69 a sebaceous cyst is filled with puss and is an infection. they often smell pretty bad too. a ganglion on the other hand will never smell (unless the person just smells like BO in general, but that's not the cyst's fault), and a ganglion is filled with a clear joint fluid that is in no way an infection.
@msmskg on the dorsal side (as shown) it's much more difficult to hit a nerve since it's such a large protruding mass and nerves run along bone. the ventral side is much closer to nerves and i wouldn't do that myself.
Had mine removed surgically. It came back a little over a year later, now it's twice the size too. I'd like to smash it, but it seems to big and it seems like it'd really hurt, and is super gross. The self aspiration seems extremely dangerous though...infections are possible even if a doctor does it. NOT having another surgery though. Ahhg...don't know what to do. Might try to smash it tonight. Yuck
i have a cyst in EXACTLY the same place mate |: and tbh, listening to your groans, i'm not overly excited about taking my 'growth' to be checked out :| i hate needles. i hate pain. Did the surgery come as an option? or was it 'a must'? my cyst looks a lot like yours...
@Schniit the surgery was optional. it was a cosmetic bother and only really hurt with physical activity. but i'm extremely physically active so it was more or less a must for me. i had it done arthroscopically once and it grew back and i recently had a more invasive surgery to have it all removed.
thanks for this video it helped alot. My fiancee has one on his wrist and I'm going to give him the two options I've found on here so far. (your way) or the book thumping. I've yet to hear a single person go to the doc to get this removed and it staying away. It has ALWAYS come back.. who can afford that? Not me that's for sure.. Thank you for your video it was VERY informative.
@MoBKasier the percentage of these coming back after aspiration as shown is fairly high. I did that a good seven times. I just had the proper surgery in early May and I'll have to see if it's permanent this time around.
whats funny is ive watched about 50 of these in the last hour and i have a craving for food and dont feel sick, just hungry... and mainly its for spagehtti
I admire your corage to do it, but i had one same as this, and i started doing yoga, the sun salutation, and it desapeared like in two weeks it was gone. I recomend everybody do yoga at the beggining it was difficult to even put my weight on my hand but little by little, it went away!
My cyst is in the exact same spot. I thought about doing this myself as well, but I have a vein that comes right over the top of mine and I'm not really willing to take the risk of hitting that.
I don't blame you for doing it yourself. I've been self-aspirating a dorsal ganglion on the inside of my wrist for about 4 years. They get so irksome after a while. Please try to obtain sterile needles though.
@fromsamaritantosin I didn't show myself holding the needle over a flame. Yes, I know it's no hospital situation, but it's better than taking a box cutter to it.
even when you hold the needle over a flame, that won't sterilize the needle. I would recommend people to use new, sterile needles. You can get a nasty infection the way you emptied the cyst....
@fromsamaritantosin yeah of course that is the best thing to do. But if you don't have a license to practice you're basically a junkie to suppliers. I'm not saying it isn't somewhat dangerous, but after the six times I've done this myself, I'm six for six. Could I get an infection? There's a chance. Am I sick of it? Definitely. I've got my second surgery scheduled for later this month.
@babygirl91580 maybe. if you want them to. but they also use better needles, and anesthetics, so you barely feel a thing. Or, they can check it out, and you can have them properly surgically remove it.
also, you said its a joint fluid, wtf, how do you develope that much joint fluid in one place, what makes it consentrate, would playing too much guitar hero and typing cause this? and im a serious guitar hero player.
Is that what is called a "book cyst" and they use to hit them with a book to break them? You would have to lance it open to get rid of the sac so it does not grow back, has it since your video? I have never seen a cyst that produced that colour of excreetment except in the mouth. Very interesting
Alcohol does not disinfect!! you'll get a septic infection dumbazz!! yeah just lay it on the filthy sink and then insert it right in your tissues! u r an idiot!
alcohol sanitizes, but does not sterilize. the needle was held over an open flame to sterilize. i have never had an infection result from this. and if you notice, the needle itself was never on my sink before the procedure. please calm down before calling me an idiot.
laying the needle on any surface contaminate sit ! I was an OR Nurse! You are taking a big risk and letting skin bacteria into deep tissue! Not very smart!
at least you don't end every sentence with an exclamation. the needle wasn't resting on anything before i used it, it was standing up, and i threw it out afterwards. i know it is definitely more risky than having the proper setting, but i'm 7 for 7 on this and not dead and no infections.
Thank you for replying back .......I'll give you that my friend........It's just that the nurse in me comes out! LOL! Thank you for correcting me on this.....be careful....take care.
When I went to the hospital their only option was to cut remove and pack it. with me returning everyday to repack. I got sick of the pain after day 2 and started packing more gently myself. It was closed in a week.
I had one when I was a teenager, and it would return eventually after a draining. I finally had it removed through surgery and no further complications.
- to further prevent the possibility of infection, since the gloved hand was handling the needle. thanks for the reminder, because yes, as you pointed out, it is my own hand.
Im only 14 , girl , and i play guitar, i have ganglion too. I saw some videos where some smash it with book , and that video , omg it seems so painful , im not so brave to try .. :( - Linda .
i actually did it again yesterday with a smaller gage needle and it barely hurt at all. better yet you can just have an orthopedic surgeon do it, and they have local anesthesia that will make the entire process completely pain free.
I have one of these but I heard it wasn't life threatening. Should I go get it removed or not? I'm terrified of needles and the cyst doesn't cause me any pain. It just looks funny.. thoughts?

SlagathoR45 1 year ago
You went quite deep with that needle, ganglion cysts are quite superficial really. Nice vid though
kramma888 1 year ago
@kramma888 yeah the usually are, but for some reason mine had created separate pockets, so i had to go through two or three different layers. funky schtuff.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
@SlagathoR45 dang you should have shaved first because you could have gotten a type of bacterial infection from your hair buy good thing you didnt lol

What's the difference between a "ganglion" cyst and a "sebatious" cyst?
frylok69 1 year ago
@frylok69 a sebaceous cyst is filled with puss and is an infection. they often smell pretty bad too. a ganglion on the other hand will never smell (unless the person just smells like BO in general, but that's not the cyst's fault), and a ganglion is filled with a clear joint fluid that is in no way an infection.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
just wondering but could the needle hit a nerve?
msmskg 1 year ago
@msmskg on the dorsal side (as shown) it's much more difficult to hit a nerve since it's such a large protruding mass and nerves run along bone. the ventral side is much closer to nerves and i wouldn't do that myself.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
Had mine removed surgically. It came back a little over a year later, now it's twice the size too. I'd like to smash it, but it seems to big and it seems like it'd really hurt, and is super gross. The self aspiration seems extremely dangerous though...infections are possible even if a doctor does it. NOT having another surgery though. Ahhg...don't know what to do. Might try to smash it tonight. Yuck
636Castle 1 year ago
@636Castle i went for my second surgery. i waited a year after it grew back again. it might be worth it.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
What exactly is a ganglion cyst?
smaucieri07 1 year ago
@smaucieri07 a pouch filled with a clear jelly like fluid that comes from your joints. the exact causes are unknown.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
i have a cyst in EXACTLY the same place mate |: and tbh, listening to your groans, i'm not overly excited about taking my 'growth' to be checked out :| i hate needles. i hate pain. Did the surgery come as an option? or was it 'a must'? my cyst looks a lot like yours...
Schniit 1 year ago
@Schniit the surgery was optional. it was a cosmetic bother and only really hurt with physical activity. but i'm extremely physically active so it was more or less a must for me. i had it done arthroscopically once and it grew back and i recently had a more invasive surgery to have it all removed.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
thanks for this video it helped alot.
MoBKasier 1 year ago
@MoBKasier the percentage of these coming back after aspiration as shown is fairly high. I did that a good seven times. I just had the proper surgery in early May and I'll have to see if it's permanent this time around.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
you know you could've just smacked it with a book really hard, thats how i got mine to go away

I admire your corage to do it, but i had one same as this, and i started doing yoga, the sun salutation, and it desapeared like in two weeks it was gone. I recomend everybody do yoga at the beggining it was difficult to even put my weight on my hand but little by little, it went away!

sKaterXharDfliP 1 year ago
My cyst is in the exact same spot. I thought about doing this myself as well, but I have a vein that comes right over the top of mine and I'm not really willing to take the risk of hitting that.
nate081304 1 year ago
I don't blame you for doing it yourself. I've been self-aspirating a dorsal ganglion on the inside of my wrist for about 4 years. They get so irksome after a while. Please try to obtain sterile needles though.
Squiffsmummy 1 year ago
5 stars for sanitizing entry site! =)
TeddyRuxpinMomma 1 year ago 2
this is not sterile AT ALL!
fromsamaritantosin 1 year ago
@fromsamaritantosin I didn't show myself holding the needle over a flame. Yes, I know it's no hospital situation, but it's better than taking a box cutter to it.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
even when you hold the needle over a flame, that won't sterilize the needle. I would recommend people to use new, sterile needles. You can get a nasty infection the way you emptied the cyst....
fromsamaritantosin 1 year ago
@fromsamaritantosin yeah of course that is the best thing to do. But if you don't have a license to practice you're basically a junkie to suppliers. I'm not saying it isn't somewhat dangerous, but after the six times I've done this myself, I'm six for six. Could I get an infection? There's a chance. Am I sick of it? Definitely. I've got my second surgery scheduled for later this month.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
pull it out with a needle and syringe, then inject it into someone else :D or not.
iTzEvrywhere 1 year ago
omg i have this too, is this what the doctors will do if i go for it
babygirl91580 1 year ago
@babygirl91580 maybe. if you want them to. but they also use better needles, and anesthetics, so you barely feel a thing. Or, they can check it out, and you can have them properly surgically remove it.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
ok thanks , im still scared tho, im afraid of needles, but if this think starts getting on my nervs more, ill probly go through with it, thanks
babygirl91580 1 year ago
@babygirl91580 when the doctor does it, it's really nothing. you hardly feel the anesthetic needle because it's so small. don't worry about it.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago
also, you said its a joint fluid, wtf, how do you develope that much joint fluid in one place, what makes it consentrate, would playing too much guitar hero and typing cause this? and im a serious guitar hero player.
babygirl91580 1 year ago
@babygirl91580 the exact cause isn't known. it could be overuse or joint flexibility. I may have developed mine from tennis or guitar.
SlagathoR45 1 year ago

Is that what is called a "book cyst" and they use to hit them with a book to break them? You would have to lance it open to get rid of the sac so it does not grow back, has it since your video? I have never seen a cyst that produced that colour of excreetment except in the mouth. Very interesting

Alcohol does not disinfect!! you'll get a septic infection dumbazz!! yeah just lay it on the filthy sink and then insert it right in your tissues! u r an idiot!
starwriter 2 years ago
alcohol sanitizes, but does not sterilize. the needle was held over an open flame to sterilize. i have never had an infection result from this. and if you notice, the needle itself was never on my sink before the procedure. please calm down before calling me an idiot.
SlagathoR45 2 years ago
laying the needle on any surface contaminate sit ! I was an OR Nurse! You are taking a big risk and letting skin bacteria into deep tissue! Not very smart!
starwriter 2 years ago
An an Emergency room RN, I have to agree with starwriter Slagatho.......otherwise, you did what you had to. Good Luck to you sir.
tenor175 2 years ago
at least you don't end every sentence with an exclamation. the needle wasn't resting on anything before i used it, it was standing up, and i threw it out afterwards. i know it is definitely more risky than having the proper setting, but i'm 7 for 7 on this and not dead and no infections.
SlagathoR45 2 years ago
Thank you for replying back .......I'll give you that my friend........It's just that the nurse in me comes out! LOL! Thank you for correcting me on this.....be careful....take care.

thanks a bunch. i appreciate your concern.

Whenever you stick a needle into your skin, try to remain as relaxed as possible.
it hurts less (:

When I went to the hospital their only option was to cut remove and pack it. with me returning everyday to repack. I got sick of the pain after day 2 and started packing more gently myself. It was closed in a week.

Why are you wearing a glove you retard? Its your own HAND!!!!
connerre 2 years ago
- to further prevent the possibility of infection, since the gloved hand was handling the needle. thanks for the reminder, because yes, as you pointed out, it is my own hand.

Im only 14 , girl , and i play guitar, i have ganglion too. I saw some videos where some smash it with book , and that video , omg it seems so painful , im not so brave to try .. :( - Linda .
LINDAjaLOONA 2 years ago 4
i actually did it again yesterday with a smaller gage needle and it barely hurt at all. better yet you can just have an orthopedic surgeon do it, and they have local anesthesia that will make the entire process completely pain free.
SlagathoR45 2 years ago
don't worry about it too much, usually it goes away on its own, if it hurts, tell your parents and they'll take you to a doctor :-D
