I was at this concert - it was a sad sight, he missed most of his chords, only few people came to see him (the Elser-Hallen weren't halfway full) and he seemed slightly misplaced - it kinda made you feel horribly sorry for him.
But even though, I don't regret a cent I paid for that ticket, it's Chuck Berry and I'm grateful to have seen him live!
So much for bowing out gracefully. Hard to believe this is the guy who wrote the bible ofn Rock and Roll Guitar. Age has nothing to do with it BB King is 83 and still kicks ass-Gatemouth Brown was 81 and had not lost a step.
It's true. Sadly yes it's true and why I'm going to say why this is true is because the man had godly speed back in the day. What Baseliner was talking about was the tempo that's all I think.
He'd be laughing at how much money he was still getting paid! Thirty years ago he was playing loose with the keys and tuning, so nothings changed. He's still a legend in my book. Of course, it doesn't help that, as the guy filming it is so close to the stage, what we're listening to is the guitar sound straight from his amp and drums, bass, keys, rhythm guitar from Chucks stage monitors which are pointing away from the camera mic...

John Lennon used to say:

This is like watching Muhammed Ali in his last days and trying to remember how incredible he once was. God bless you Mr. Berry.

Jeebus. Chuck Berry is the man, but holy crap... If Chuck Berry of 30 years ago sat down and watched this, he'd be laughing.
