Kenpachi is the only captain that has no bankai form whatsoever. I dont remember the dialoge or anything but the head captain (tite kubo as well in a interview) once stated that kenpachi's power was enough to rival a bankai, therefore he needed no such thing to claim captain position. Usually only shinigami who acheived shikai and bankai level could become captains. This proves kenny here, is just to bad ass to have one.
