Wow! yes having to know code is much easier than clicking on an exe file. Even at free, Windows and Apple OS are still preferred by the mass majority. Mostly because they are intuitive, and you can use them without having to open a command prompt.
Windows makes us lazy? Why not say cars make people lazy? planes? elevators? These wide people's sight. Because they are convinience. This does not mean lazy.
why cant linux be simpler? downloads click the download button then install. not open the type this code this, its to complicated they rlly need to me installing programs easy

I've just downloaded a package from the internet wich ciontains the driver for mi wireless apdator, and I just cannot make it work, compare to windows install a driver in linux it's god dam%& fuc%$g witch of the west man, it is mix a interface betwen the console and a visual interface, simply not easy to use, but gonna keep trying, just wanted to get it off my chest, I want my two and a half hours back!!!!
i like linux butt wht stopping me is im 40 i would have to relearn props to iven install thangs thakes to much time why cant it be like windows just a click lol
@Trinivalts That is true for most operating systems these days. How do you get the latest version of Firefox? On the internet, I know no other way. If you have the .deb .rpm or heck some people use .sh files for installing you can install without the internet.
@CoverlessTech I can at least keep the exe'es on my drives for later use while i'm off net. As far as I know there's all kinds of different messy installation instructions for every other program, and it's usually hard to find the deb's or whatever else there was.
a 5 minute video explaining how to install linux programs VS windows 2 click programs installs. Pretty sad. this is why linux will always be the minority. Either way thanks for the vid.
a 5 minute video explaining how to install linux programs VS windows 2 click programs installs. Pretty sad. this is why linux will always be the minority.
Windows will always be better than Linux for one reason only and thats due to the ease of use in installing and uninstalling software. Linux has never been able to get this write. I have ask for years to have this fixed. So 20 years later still the same old fluff in getting packages to work. And taking ages to install, compared just seconds to install in windows. Linux is like a dogs breakfast no wonder theres a distro named after it puppy linux!!!!! hahaha ;)
@NightShiftMoggy Yeah, I've never had broken dependencies, and I've never had to do a reinstall because of upgrade issues. Anytime Linux has messed up, it was because I was messing around with alpha and beta software, messing around with different drivers, and I just messed the computer up. If you don't fuck something up in Linux, it's not fucked up. If you had a bad experience, it's because you didn't take the time to try to learn what you were doing. Simple.
Im using windows xp on an old pc and i want to put ubuntu 10.04 on it with wine, but, will i can run ALL programs like office 2010,newest msn, newest itunes, newest games,..or only old released versions??Btw i got hp printer software and usb wireless adaptor..will it work on ubuntu with wine or it wont??Thanks.
@SMGJohn LMFAO! yes that is why computers were invented, not to make life easier, but to constantly challenge us, so that we have to learn how to jump through hoops to get done what we want accomplished. What moronic backward tech worl do you live in. Computers were made to make task (life) easier, and "easier" is the most intuitive, method possible. This is why people who bought netbooks with linux on them returned them.
@mikeami68 I think you miss understood my comment very badly. If you read again I clearly said that Windows made us lazy which it does, clearly you don't do allot to install a software. On Linux you do, your forced to remember many codes and installation methods cause of the different file types in Linux. Windows is all automatic cause you only have to select where, how and then next and it's done. Such things isn't implented in Linux yet
@SMGJohn My apologies. Your comment did not come off as the sarcasm, you intended. The "GO LINUX!" makes it sound like you appreciate the cumbersome steps you have to go through to install a program, especially if you have to download the program as a tar.gz and install it.
so if I get this right sudo apt -get "application name" downloads and installs the programm you want? Does it get the latest version of it and how do update the software when needed?
@SerThugalot It will download the newest version in the distributions repository. And will find and install updates itself(once they are posted to the repository).
@CoverlessTech Thanks. I am currently using Fedora and really enjoy it. Really fast start up and working. One thing that bothers me though is that Wine won't let me install stuff because I don't have a "permission", I have been reading around and so far no luck finding anything about it.
@SerThugalot : apt-get install "application name" - this applies to ubuntu and other debian like distros. better, and more user friendly way is to use program "synaptic" which is a graphical interface to apt.
ok im a die hard pc user but linux has my attention at the mo. ok im lost with how to install packages as well. so, say i download the latest graphics driver from nvidia this will b because it's not listed in the package manager. so once i have it what do i do then. i have the latest linux open suse.
dude i have a EEE PC ASUS and i dont have CD drive and i Dont have kubuntu ... i dont now what to do cuz i need to install flash player... help me please
Ubuntu linux and all linux are the biggest piece of horse sh!t on this planet.
Imagine it took me 4 days to try and install a simple file like flash for firefox to watch youtube videos
and I still can't. Then I installed windows 7 and double clicked and watch the magic happen. Thank god for windows. Only cunts would use a piece of filt like Linux.
Now how the heck do I get those super awesome compiz fusion stuff on Ubuntu?
Is there a version of Ubuntu where I can just download, install and have all those things already installed?
Also what is the universal command to install any app?
Is it "sudo apt-get install BLABLABLA"
What I do find sad is they would make it different from windows, ontop of that make it so much harder when they all want us to switch. If not for those Beryl effects I wont care!
sudo apt-get install "application-name" will work for pretty much any program you can think of. You can also use the Package Manager to sort through all the programs.
I don't use Ubuntu so I can't say for sure how to install compiz on it(I'm sure you can find it on google) but sudo apt-get install compiz might give you exactly what you want.
Check out Mandriva KDE version(especially when 2010 version comes out in November). It has a very easy way to enable compiz.
Hello Coverless, I have a GNS package and want to install it on Mandriva. I am not new to linux, but dont know most of the things too, so you will have to be patience with me,, ,lol, Thanking you.
If you open the software management tool and type GNS in the search GNS3 shows up to install. If that is what you need all you have to do is click the check box by GNS3 and click apply and it will install itself.
You can also grab it from the command line as superuser.
in the command line type(without quotes):
"su"
it will then ask for your root password, type it in and click enter. Then type:
"urpmi gns3"
it will tell you it is going to install some things, just type "y" and click enter.
how install drivers i.e. downloaded drivers for ati graphic card but don't know how to install it . double clicked it and it doesn't work. could not also install vlc player followed instruction from site did not work. I want to use Linux but its too confusing for a window users..... i give up !
You should check out Mandriva 2009 KDE version if Ubuntu is to confusing.
KDE is more similar to Windows so it should be less confusing then Gnome. Mandriva also as a much better install system for drivers and applications(IMO at least).
Installing software in linux is much easier then in windows. You don't have to find files on the internet or anything. All you need to do is type one command into the command line or use the package manager which keeps track of all programs available.
