  • From which city is he?

  • He is from Brno, Czech.

  • I had to shorten words for video. Here is full version of English translation.

L(Lady): Mens European Figure Skating Championships started with the Short Program yesterday and following the Short Program, Michal Březina is fourth and Tomáš Verner eight.

M(Men)As you know from the Czech Television news, Yevgeni Plushenko from Russia, who had not competed in a top competition since Winter Olympics in Turin, is in the lead.

  • L: We are speaking on the telephone to Michal Březina, Czech Figure skater and the runner-up to the world champion. Hello.

    B(Brezina): Hello.

  • L: Are you happy after what happened yesterday?

B: Well, I am happy. I am happy not only with the result but also with how I skated because basically I managed to skate as I wanted which was to have a clear program, so I am happy with that. That result, fourth place in the European Championships, that is excellent, it is my third time at the European Championships, so there is really nothing else to add.

  • M: Now there is the long program left tonight. Is there going to be a medal?

B: Well, it could be a medal. Reporters asked me yesterday too but I do not really want to speak about it in advance, I will simply show what I can do and the judges shall decide whether they will award the medal to me or whether they will wait for it a bit longer. We shall really only see in the evening. I will basically skate to show at least as much as I did at the National Championships.

  • L: So far you have been jumping only triple jumps, can you get good results with that?

B: Well, I think that you can get a good result with that. When we consider that the reigning world champion Lysacek did not do a quadruple jump, I think that when the program is completed well with all triple jumps, the result can be good, but of course, the quadruple jumps, that is going a bit further, that is a higher program, the medals then come more frequently.

  • M: Michal, do you consider the Championships in Tallinn to be only a preparation for Olympics as if you just tested your condition and tested how your rivals are doing?

B: Well, these European Championships are really more important for me than Olympics because it will be my first time at the Olympics. The Olympics only happen every four years so it will be a lot about nerves, but really these European Championships are for me personally more important than the Olympics.

  • L: But we cannot really not ask you about the Olympics, what are your plans, what result do you want to achieve?

B: Well, with regard to the Olympics, I would certainly want to have two clear programs, that is my aim, I want to do that in every competition taking place this year. If I manage to do that, I will be happy. As for the result, I will leave that to the judges, I'll leave it up to them to decide.

  • M: Michal, finally I have to ask you about Yevgeni Plushenko because yesterday he broke his own world record with his short program. What do you think about that?

B: Well, I saw him. And I must say that after four years out of competition that was a fantastic result and I would say that he deserved it. Because what he showed after a four-year break was excellent.

L: Michal Březina. Thank you for the interview. Good bye and good luck.

    B: Good bye.
