I've been enjoying this song (in a mix) for such a long time, so nice to see him sing it! Interesting how the sense of the song actually makes me 'feel near...', very poetic.

@setokaibafan1234 great also i Herd this song from a CD my mother was using in her Class and I thought what if this song could fite Chracters from my faverit show Like Yu Gi Oh for example.
Been a Dougie fan for years. Sadly, he's twice been in concert less than an hour away, yet I haven't been able to make the shows. If he comes back, I'll crawl! Boring? Hardly. Soulful. Heartfelt. A beautiful soul.
Found it - SONGROADS: A Musical Friendship from Nashville to Dunkeld. It was broadcast in 1997 and is owned by the Scottish Screen Collection and only available for viewing on site, at the Scottish National Library. Felt sure it would have had a DVD release.
Great to see this again. This is part of a documentary that I saw in 95/96, it's about how the friendship developed between Dougie and Kathy and their families. I recorded it on video, but lost it ages ago. Anyone know if there is a DVD?
I missed you, childhood. I remember when I was little, my dad used to buy me Putamayo CDs, this was my favorite song form all of them. Sadly, it broke in half ages ago. I love this song. So very much.
i listened to this song live in stornoway last summer was amazing and and i know where he lives and every word really does make sense and is a true expression of his life and home.
on a side note the last time i saw him he was sat on his lawn tractor :-) bit random i know :P
I'm the Irish sister mentioned earlier in the comments and my sentiments echo those of me sister and many of the others. It's a beautiful song ... that goes straight to me heart and takes me home ... because it doesn't matter where you were born or who you are or how far away you are ... there is no place like home ... and if we look to our hearts ... we'll find it. Thanks for giving me a tune to sing whilst I walk home to Ireland and me sister does the same to Scotland
I heard this a few months back from a college station in NYC. Great stuff. I don't know what this does for others where they live, but for me thisis the ideal song for walking the trails on a fall afternoon when you need some time to reflect. Songs like this really help to still the mind. Reminds me a bit of "The Wind" by Cat Stevens.
I'll probably get eaten alive for this comment, but anyway....
To my shame, I am American and stuck here in USA; however, I am truly Scottish through & through as much as my sister is Irish. My patriotism belongs to Scotland, and this song takes me home until I can get there myself. Cheers!
No matter where or when it is, when I hear this, it's always a sunny autumn afternoon, and I'm picking apples (what I was doing when I first heard this). Now THAT"s powerful music!
Love this song! I listened to it in the car as a child driving from Rannoch to Edinburgh on our various excursions, and managed to sing along with this! Dougie's music always stays with you!
@tomtscotland I wish this guy sang this song for the soundtrack for one of the Chronicles of Narnia or do you think this song could fite J.R.R Tolkens Novel the Hobbit because I herd they are making alive action movie of it in 2012.
This is the first time I get to listen to Dougie MacLean.Very good indeed. He looks and sounds like a non-mainstream kind of artist,I like it this way,Dougie.TY for posting.

A song for the sailor
Who travels the waves
Over seas far from Lewis His heart seeks the Gale
Caledonia: takes you back to Scotland
Feel so near: take you back to Lewis
