Asian small-claws are cute, and I understand they're good performers for public display, but I wish zoos would make it clearer that they're typically not the native otter species and maybe put greater effort into the more endangered species like the Amazon Giant otter.

What a playful and cute otter! I'm sure the Walrus disagrees. And I agree that otters do not make good pets; along with foxes, wolves and cougars. Adopting them as pets threatens their very survival in the wild, even if a baby otter tackling a stuff walrus is absolutely adorable!

@SdstcChpmnk I don't know if someone replied to you yet, but otters don't make good pets because they're not domesticated animals. It doesn't matter how much human contact they have being wild is simply in their DNA. So they'd be cute and cuddly as babies, but when they're adults they'd hate to be handled and would probably claw/fight their way to freedom, become destructive and even depressed in a human home.

If they were to become domesticated, they would have to be bred to be kept as pets.

I don't really understand why so many people say that keeping animals in human captivity is wrong. Are we starving them? no. Are we abusing them? no. Are they locked in a cage? In this situation, no. Animals in human care are often much healthier, and are a lot happier. Sure, in rare cases, cats and dogs are horribly mistreated, does that mean we should ALL stop keeping pets? no.

Unless the animal in question is sentient, I don't see why "captivity" is so cruel...

@sherik5 Remember these guys are only babies which is why they act that why, When there adult instincts and characters develop they could change alot. Also its just never a good idea to keep a wild animal as a pet inside a domestic setting. They will always be happier and better off mentally in more natural surroundings even if that is a zoo enclosure.
