This is sad, what did we do with the last tram to ever run on the Sydney tram network, oh that's right, we shoved it in an old depot to roy and be smashed up and vandalised, I'm from sydney, and that's just sad!
All sydney has now is that SLR (sydney Light Rail) which are suposidly trams, I prefer the good old trams, Jump on jump off where ever you want before the "Nanny state" kicked in with OH&S (thats also why they ditched the Red Rattler's apart from there age (well dah they started service in the 30's I think)
Real Sydney trams, for real tram people.Return them to Geogre St,La Perouse,Ashfield,Haberfield,Gladesville and Chatswood. Intersperce modern trams with the real "Toastracks etc".
I rode the last tram from La Perouse to Anzac parade in 1961. Still have several pennies almost flattend by the very last Sydney tram at Anzac parade. Such a sad memento here in Vancouver, but reasured still by this 66 year old Australian.
So glad that we never got rid of the trams here in Adelaide (though we very nearly did). We finally have a State Government who is adding track and trams to the network as well which makes it even better (got an extension being built as we speak).
Some nice footage,if it is from the early 60s hence FB or Ek Holden Police car then I'd say it is standard 8 film not super 8.But thanks for sharing this.Trams are easier to get to rather than Trains that require large stations and platforms etc.Trams are a nice humble way to travel,I'm glad we still have them in Melbourne.
Thanks a lot to have put this movie. I left Rome (my city) to go to Melbourne in 2004-05 to take pics to trams.
Dont make the same mistake of us (here remained 6 routes only, and we had one of the widest tram networks in europe).
Look what became one of the most magic cities in the world. Worse than a city in a developing country, in center Africa, only 1 billions of cars and mobile phones (7 cars every 10 people, the unic city in the world)
Melbourne has a great feel to it, but the trams really fuck up the traffic in the suburbs. They can't widen their streets, so all the cars are at the mercy of the trams, at least buses pull over and let cars past. It might have worked 50 years ago, but in today's world they are a pain in the ass.
I lived in Sydney for 2 years, but very frequently visited Melbourne for business and pleasure. Sydney has the harbor and ferries, but I must say that the character of Melbourne exceeds Sydney with their trams.
Sydney public transport was ruined over the years from then to now by cronie dishonest Transport managers and there lacky do enything they say employees. Went from not good to the worst. State Rail burnt chewed and spat out any one who cared. Well done. The system is as ruined as some of the employees. Top heavy with good for nothing useless managers who would be cheaper on welfare.
I love trams and cities that still own trams. Trams is a blessing, a heritage and asset to a city! That is why for Australian cities I prefer Melbourne over Sydney for sure, where something is felt missing. Just find the ding-ding-ding chimes on the streets pleasurable to my ears.
Whomever decided to remove Sydney's tram system is a criminal, who has left this city permanently on its knees for want of a decent public transport system.
Sydney will never see such a fast, safe and reliable system again :(. And the Ironic thing is that the arguments that they are outdated is proven time and time again to be full of crap as melbourne and Adelaide and prospering thanks to them, so go figure.
Awesome, so Sydney!! I like the woman in the big summer dress hanging on with other hand waving free and the guy in the hat who so sadly waves goodbye to the tram. A question. Did you do the transfer? nice job. This is great use of YouTube.
Oh how stupid Sydney was in getting rid of its trams. I've lived all my life in a tramless Sydney, and trams (or modern light rail) would be such a good solution to Sydney's current-day transport chaos.

I feel like breaking down. Sydney has never recovered since it lost its mass transit system.

why should a tram carrying over 100 people (As the B class do) pull over and let a car carrying 1 person past. It makes no sense at all.

thats exactly rite mate, half the issues that
sydney is facing today would probably have been
non existent had they had made efforts to improve on tram systems rather than introducing buses.
Melbourne today is the envy of rest of the aussie cities when it comes to transport.
Nothing beats Melbourne

Your kidding right? Melbourne has the worst traffic problems in Australia. Sydney is fine, you just need to know how to get around.
